Alright Ladies and Gentleman, this is what you have all been waiting for. Or actually probably just what Ive been waiting for. The biggest SSBM tournament ever.
TOURNAMENT GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The date is tentatively set for Saturday April 6th. It will be located in the wonderful town of San Jose, California at my house. I will post up address and directions once everything is 100% confirmed.
Please don't say anything negative about this tournament, cause your opinion might make other people stray away from coming. This is a friendly tournament for fun and the pursuit of good competition.
Now since everyone likes a different style of play, Im going to try and make this a tournament to appease everyone. Im going to have 3 tournaments in one.
Tournament One-5 Dollar Entry
Free for All. Stock 3. All stages random. All items on medium.
Every person will play a set number of matches, prolly 5 . Each person will be given a point score for how they place.
4 points-First place
2 points-Second place
1 point -Thrid Place
nothing- Last Place
After everyone has played their 5 rounds, the top 4 scores will battle it out for 3 matches. The top score wins. In case of tie they play one on one stock 1. It will be one intense short match.
Tournament Two-5 Dollar entry
Two Man Teams. Stock 2. Team attack ON. Stage vs order. All items on medium.
Double Elimination. 2 out of 3 matches.
this is pretty self explanatory.
Tournament Three-5 Dollar entry
One on One. Stock 3. Stage vs Order. All items on medium.
Double Elimination. 2 out of 3 matches.
Again, pretty self explanatory.
All three tournaments will have individual prizes.
70% first place
20% second place
10% third place
no money is taken by me for hosting the tourney. 100% goes to the top 3 placers. The only way i get money is if i take top 3.
All brackets will be drawn 100% randomly and in the open.
The second two tourneys should run just like any normal tourney will. I dunno if i will have the tourneys back to back, or intertwined. I will do what ever is easiest.
I really encourage people to come to this. There has never really been a SSB community and it will be great to meet new people and have fun. Post if you think you'll come. If you have any questions/concerns you can post them, or talk to me. My AIM is Mattdeezie and my E mail is TheBeerbum@aol.com.
so Go to TOURNAMENT GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you want your topic to not be closed, and not have to make it all over again, I'd suggest editing it to change the topic to something lowercase before someone closes this.

Hey that sounds cool and all, but I REALLY don't think it would be wise to give your address out on the internet.

Sorry if this is negative but 5 Dollars for a private tornament! I might as well be playing a tornament by myself! Sorry 5 dollar tornament dude! (I've been watching too much "Super Mario Bros. Super Show")

I think it's a good (athough risky) idea. If someone comes across one in Illinois plz let me know.

First of all, Super Mario Bros Super Show rocks. I love that show. I have some episodes on tape and I watch them all the time.
And second, if anyone lives or travels near the greater Sacramento area. Lemme know. I'm dying to challange someone who might actually prove to be a challange. (Sorry if that sounded snobby) :)

I didn't say that The SMBSS was bad I was just saying that I watch it too much (tape, DVD, etc.). :D
Anyway I'm not catching plane to CA just to spend $5 at a tornament. A plane ticket from Philly to SJ already costs alot!

I dont beleive i posted this, but the winner gets the cash. I thought people thought that was implied. I'll go edit my first post.
Its 5 Dollars per tourney, and there are three. So if you enter all three its $15 dollars. But if you win all three, you can walk away with 300 dollars. It depends on how many people enter.
The prizes are awarded as follows
70%-First Place
20%-Second Place
10%-Third Place
So if you take third in one of the 3 tournaments you basically have payed for yourself. Right now I think I am looking at 20 people entering, I think. I would like to get more. The more the better. Im gonna try to hook up as many TV's as possible. Basically its just gonna be a fun way to meet the people in the area, and see all sorts of styles and skill. So please come, $5 really isnt that much. Just eat at home one day and pass up on fast food for a day.
All money paid into the tournament goes to the winners. The only way I get money is if i take top 3 in something.
Brackets will be drawn 100% randomly, and always in the open for everyone to see. Te only exception to change brackets is if you are like playing your best friend first round or something. Then we can make an exception.
ALL MONEY IS GIVEN TO THE WINNERS.
I'll actually lose money cause i'll probably supply mofos with drinks and stuff
Come, test your skill.
TOURNAMENT GO!!!!!!!!

Cm'on people who live in San Jose. This is a SMASH BROTHERS TOURNAMENT!!!! Stuff like this just dosent happen.
I would go but I'm not stupid!?
Im holding this so i can get outside competition and meet more people. Who cares if you can beat the computer. The tournament will be a failure if no outside people come. It will be fun. I have already got around 20 people going, its the perfect chance to see how good you are. Results will be posted and if you win not only do you get a butt load of cash, people will know you are good.
Some people would fly for a tournament if they had money, many people would kill to have tournament in their area. Its a privledge that you are taking for granted.
The only reason why I am holding it at my house is so I dont have to fork out cash to rent a place, and dont have acess to one. I have a 50 some inch TV for some sweet matches. Its larger than any place i can rent, and i can have acess to more TV's.
So people, Please give it a chance. If you live near SAN JOSE CA. Go to TOURNAMENT GO!!!!!!!

ditto. don't feel left out I can't find anything either and I live less than an hour from Chicago. Unfortunately SSBM tournies are non existant. Doesn't make sense since its the top selling (by a wide margin) game for GC and with exception of maybe Halo and FFX the best selling console game out there.

I'd love to go but I live in San Antionio, Texas and I really wont spend a couple hundred dollars to fly to California just tp pay $5.00 to play my favorite game. I mean, its crazy if you think about it going to some strangers home know what they might really do. And besides, I know my parents won't let me go anywhere like that just to play a videogame. Oh well... (I'd kill you at the game anywayz, I am the M-A-S-T-E-R with my favorite player, Samus)

I live 2 hours from San Diego. Where do you post up your tournaments. I am almost positive if I knew there was a tourney within two hours of my home I could get probably 7 people to come. 4 Garunteed. I am only hosting a tournament because I dont see any others ones around. Also what rules do you do?

Say, I didn't see this asked or answered, as Ive never attended a SSB:M tournament, at least not something with just my friends and my friends' friends.
Are you going to use the tournament mode, or will you just do it like one would have in SSB? I wonder if nintendo even gave a second thought as to whether or not the tournament mode was a worthy addition to the game.
Sadly, I cannot attend, as I live several days away from California.

Is the tourney in Imperial Vally a regular event? Like monthly? and do you just play 1 on 1 or FFA too?

Ive never looked at the tournament mode, I actually forgot it was there. I was just going to write out brackets. Ill mess around with the tournament mode and see if it is worth implementing.

my god.
i cant believe some of the stuff that im reading.
for those that can make it to the tourney and say "(boo-hoo, this guy is a STRANGER!, he may take my lunch money..." this is kinda understandable if you are like under 12 years old BUT the guy is giving you his address and not inviting you to an abandonded amusement park. If you still are scared, bring your mommy and daddy w. you.
to others considering attending:
read some of these other posts:
"i would come, i wish, but i'm on the other side of the world and are upside down"
"If someone comes across one in Illinois plz let me know"
"i wish sonmeone would set up a tournament in the Vancouver BC, canada/seattle WA USA area"
-west coast players consider yourselves lucky that you have a tournement at all and quit making excuses.
All the others that are crying bc they have no tourneys should get off their butts and setup their own. All you need is 3-4 ppl to even start.
evidently, i know how serious-... or rather unserious most of you are about this great Game.
i live about 6-7 drive from mattdeezie.
im not concerned that its 5 bucks to enter. the money is just a custom, id enter just to play. yeah, according to me, im good at ssbm. but if i say im good and dont try to find people better than me, im lying to myself.
ill go to mattdeezies tourney
i kick *** at ssmb
and im going to prove it because im...

NotallTalk:Thanks for your pep talk to people, hopefully it will help get even more outside comp. Its nice to see someone else whos interested to see how good they are. Its an honor to have you come.
I dunno if people understood or not, but this is three tournaments in one. So basically its 3 tournaments in one day, each at $5 dollars. You dont have to enter all three, but I figure as long as people there, the more people who enter each tournament will make it that much better of a tournament.
I think now is a good time to give my address and stuff.
Saturday April 6th
I think noon is a good time to start, if you want to practice before hand you can come early, and if you are out of town and gonna be late I can postpone it and stuff. I can pretty much do what ever I want, Ive got the house for the whole day, but plan on around noon.
252 Cresta Vista Way
San Jose, Ca 95119
If you need to contact me before the tournament call (626)852-1676. this is my apt number when at college.
If you need to contact me on the friday before or the saturday of the tournament call (408)365-1180
This is my home number where the tournament will be held.
Bring your own controller, There will be like 2 set aside or so for people who cant, but its always best for people to play with what they are used to.
If you can bring your gamecube thats great too, but label it. Im almost positive i can get a hold of 3, but i dunno how many Tv's I will set up and stuff. The more TV's the faster the tournaments go.
I also am hopefully going to tape the matches, not all of them, but I'm going to do the best that I can. Perhaps I could pursuade a friend of mine to stick them up on the internet. It would be a great way for people to see how other people play. So if you still dont want to come, you might get a match vid up and become famous.
I know there are more Bay Area people out there, where are you guys at?

How old are you? I'd definently go but my parents wouldn't allow it. What should I say?
Me-Hey Mom can I goto this guy's house to play Smash Brothers?
Mom-What guy?
Me-Someone I met on the net.
Mom-You know what I've said about talking online with peple you haven't met...
Me-I know bu-
Mom-Not another word.
That's just how I imagine it would go but I'm sure it would go something like that.
I got an email from Ign and it said there was a tournament at CompUSA or something.

Honestly people if your still in middle school or younger don't go to the tournie, if your older than that get some guts. Going to a strangers house to play SSBM is not going to be the scariest thing you do in your life.

I would go, the only thing stopping me is how I would get there. I don't live too far, but at the same time I don't have my own car. I might be able to get someone to take me, but what if not.
For now, my answer is yes.

Deezie, I live in LA, I will be there, I prolly can get one more friend and car pool up. I just have a couple of questions about the rules. In two man teams you say stage vs order? What does that mean? I think you should do looser picks, since its best of three matches, and cointoss for the first stage. Well I will see you at your Tournament Go!!!!
Comon all of you highschoolers and college age in Nor Cal, I want my Link and Marth to have a lot of competition.

ScubaSteve-Is it 2 hours north or south of San Jose. And how old are you. I'm driving up from LA, and I have a friend driving down from Mofodesto. If you would feel comfortable i could even prolly pick you up and take you home. Or at least find someone to get you. I'm looking for outside competition, so the more people I don't know the more of a sucess the tournament will be.
SpklKen-I dont know if I will do stage vs order. That means you do wither ro-sham-bo or coin flip. The winner picks either stage or order. If you pick stage you pick the stage but you pick you character first. If you pick order you the other character picks first. A way of limiting counter picking. The following matches could very well be on loser, i havent decided yet.

I just checked it out because I wanted to go to them, However, I think the tournament is only for Counterstrike. It says you can "strut your stuff all day with free play SSBM, and i couldnt find anything about a tournament for SSBM." If Im wrong, prove me wrong, I would still like to go to a tourney.
But. . . heres a quote I found.
"The free-play event on Sunday had many seasoned Melee players coming out and staying all day to play the local talent which resulted in two impromptu tournaments. Great fun was had by all!"
So perhaps. I beleive I will go check it out anyway. I want to, but Im in the middle of a beach campout that day. I beleive my friends would get pretty pissed at me, I guess I'll have to think about it.

In the right corner they post the results of the two SSBM tournaments. It's not like the counter strike tournament as far as prize money but it's free and played on their projection TV.
It's not quite a high stakes tournament, but it's there
