View Full Version : I wonder about some of the mechanics of this guy.

Some things spring to mind, other than the obvious "omg moving stage will trainer die?"
First: suppose one of the Pokes gets KOed. Does he just flinch and throw out a Pokeball with another one inside, or do they come back on a platform like any other character, percentage (and hopefully innate stamina) reset?
Second: suppose the trainer calls for a switch. Would it work on the ground only? If a switch is called on a moving stage, would the rotating Poke appear at the same exact place where the old one switched out? Suppose the ball gets thrown when a pit or platform was at a location but moves away... is that an instant death?
Third: taunts. Do you think the trainer HIMSELF will taunt, or do you think the individual Pokes will? (Squirtle Squad sunglasses, please >_>)

the pokemon trainer is 3 characters in one. if one dies, they reappear at their starting point like everyone else. they switch just like zelda/sheik did. yes, you can do it in midair. the pokemon themselves should do the taunts, they are the ones fighting, not the trainer.

Every one of these questions that people ask about the Pokémon Trainer are really obvious.
1. He has LEGS. People use them to jump.
2. Of course the Pokémon come back on the platforms. The Pokémon Change is a move. Meaning it only happens when you use the down special. Not when they die.
3. Yes, of course the switched Pokémon appears in the same place. This isn't a new mechanic people. Zelda/Sheik, remember them?
Seriously.

But are you CERTAIN?
It's speculation, not a bloody ticket to bite my head off.
EDIT: the only thing you actually answered was question 2. I wonder whether or not you actually gave a crap or you pulled off a copypasta.

Copy/paste from what? From other people that bring up the same questions all the time? It would make sense if I had, but I actually didn't.

Sorry, I tend to explain logic to people in straight-to-the-point ways. Plus you can get away with more here than in person, or better-organized forums.
I'm curious to know what **** meant.

Okay, fine. Let's presume that you don't have your head shoved somewhere it shouldn't belong for a minute and respond.
Your response to my first question, which was actually thrown into point 2, is nonsensical. I meant what happens to the TRAINER. Does he pull a Nana and vanish when all the stocks are gone? I find it hard to believe he'd just stand still and keep shouting in the background if Ivysaur bites the dust.
You obviously don't understand what I meant by question two, either. It seems nonsensical that the trainer can throw a Pokeball at midair and have it bust open - noncanon anime aside, every Pokemon game I've seen thus far has a ball landing on the ground before the Pokemon pops out.
And way to answer question 3. At all. Really.
Your first response seems off, even for a question that I was JOKING about. But let's play devil's advocate here; suppose the trainer is battling on No(r)fair: when that tidal wave from the background comes in, don't you agree that he's either going to have SOME specialized means of shielding himself for the lava? "He has legs" doesn't mean he can just jump over it...

Well, since it would be odd for the trainer to disappear and reappear every KO and then send his Pokémon out, what's most likely is that he'll do some surprised/disappointed animation every time his Pokémon gets KO'd, and then the Pokémon would appear on the resurrection platform with all "stats" clear. When he runs out of stock, my guess is he'll just lay defeated, kneeled on the ground or something. If not, then I guess he would still perform the defeated animation and then disappear after a few seconds. In any case, he would not remain shouting when the Pokémon are KO'd/defeated.
For the change, we can't be sure, but I'd say it's more likely to be able to do it in the air too. Brawl doesn't have to follow the same rules as the Pokémon games, just like other characters do not act exactly the same as in their respective games; the just have to adapt them. However, it could also be possible to not be able to do it in the air, so that for example, if you get thrown off-stage, you can't switch to Charizard in midair and ensure returning to the stage. Less likely, but possible. Also, the switched Pokémon should appear in the same place as the one that switched out. If like you said, a platform disappeared, it would be stupid to have the Pokéball fall down to death; in any case, the Pokémon would appear and start falling, but still giving you chance to recover.
For taunts, I say both :p If only the trainer taunted, it would be weird to have the Pokémon standing there idly without being able to move. As for possible taunts, there could be a Pokémon-only taunt, one where both the Pokémon and trainer taunt, and maybe even go as crazy as making all three Pokémon come out for a group taunt. In any case, I'm sure that the winning screen will feature all three Pokémon with the trainer in front (or at least it should :p)
As for the whole moving trainer issue, I support the idea of the trainer using other Pokémon for the task. I mean, he can have up to 6 Pokémon with him, so that leaves 3 more for him to use. He could call out a flying Pokémon to Fly on the background of floating stages, a fast one for running on fast-moving stages (or quit being a slacker and use his bike :p), and for crazy stages like Norfair, maybe a Psychic Pokémon to Teleport or create a Barrier. There are many possibilities.. I hope Nintendo/Sakurai take them into consideration. Having the trainer just vanish and reappear or not move/appear at all would suck, IMO.

I answered them out of order, which might be why.
Now I'm thinking I misunderstood the first one. You mean when all stocks are lost or just a single KO? For all stocks he would probably vanish. For one, he doesn't have that long to wait. He could just stand there.
Number two can be explained as well. Remember in the anime where they'd throw the ball and it would bounce off the Pokémon and then recapture them in midair?
And I never addressed number three (about the taunts). I think I covered two in one.

Which is what this thread is about. Anyways, it well be the same as Sheik/Zelda, and I am pretty sure that the Pokemon themselves will perform the taunts, as they are the ones fighting.
