What is the origin of Lucas' Victory Theme?

Considering that MOTHER2 (Earthbound) is my favorite SNES game... I feel sort of ashamed to be asking this, but I just need to get the answer to this.


I was looking at some Lucas Brawl gameplay videos,

Fast-forward the video all the way to the end where it shows the victory screen for Lucas. Listening to the little victory tune that is played to represent the MOTHER series... I really have no memory of hearing that anywhere in MOTHER2. I'm also fairly sure that Ness has the exact same victory theme.

I would also like to point out (although fairly obvious) how that tune is nothing like the MOTHER victory themes in Smash 64 and Smash Melee. The victory theme for Ness in both those games was the last few notes of the Sound Stone, that much was obvious.


Yet I can't put my finger on this new victory theme... I'm assuming it comes from MOTHER 3.... which I have not played yet (But will as soon as the fan-translation is complete). Then again it could also be from MOTHER1 (Earthbound Zero) which I also have not played...

It's the "Love is the power, love is the glory, love is the beauty and the joy of spring" part from MOTHER's theme, given a more upbeat tempo and instrumental.


Also: Neat, he pulls a needle for his victory pose.

Mother 1 ftw. At least Brawl remembers that game when Ninten isn't playable (not saying that Ninten should be playable, but I'm just saying Mother 1 should be remembered).

It's part the eight melodies song, it plays in the game quite often, and you unlock new pieces of it each time you defeat a boss.

Ness has the same victory theme in Brawl. And it plays when you talk to Queen Mary after gathering all the melody pieces and again in the ending.

It's the latter part of the Mother end credits. And this is an improvement over Melee, no matter what any of you say. The melodies from Mother and Mother2 are some of the most beautiful songs in gaming, and precisely because of that, trying to cram a jaunty version into Ness' victory theme butchered the majesty of it.

They also fixed Link's victory song to the TRIFORCE GET theme. If they had put in alternate victory themes, the fanfare from the beginning of ALttP would have been awesome, too.
