Do you think Lucario will be a top tier character?

I think he could. Double team could cause hell on the opponent especially if you got a lot of damage since Lucario deals more damage when he's got a lot of damage. and his FS could causes hell on the opponent since you could trap them easily.

And he's fast. That'll aide him well.

If he is, it won't be for those reasons. >_>

Agreed. Being fast, increasing power with damage, and a FS that can "trap" people (which probably will never show up in tournaments), doesn't really make a character top tier. Lucario isn't an awful character, but we're not exactly sure of tiers right now. This topic is mere speculation.

in case you didnt know double team is just a flashier version of marths/ikes/roys counter. About the actual topic, i think i have seen a thread like this for every single newcomer. I personally dont care about tiers and am getting sick of topics like these. But i think that i will use lucario no matter his tier. He looks like he is fun to play as plus i tend to stick around till real high percentages so his increased power with damge will be awsome.

There is a thread like this for just about every brawl character at the moment. It is far too early to discuss it with any real seriousness yet. Just like the difference from launch Melee to present day Melee, with the discovery of new techniques and ways to play, the entire Brawl game will be changed around and until significant time has passed, judging how good a character is compared to the rest of the cast overall is not going to be too reliable.

Look at things like Luigi before and after wave dashing, Jiggs before and after her aerial game was discovered, Falco before and after short hop laser.

i dont think he will be simply because of his damage thing in every other game when a guy has that effect it has always been for the worst.

My prediction is that Lucario will be upper middle tier...He combos very well, but only has a couple of reliable killers. Also, at low %, his killers aren't particularly strong.

I hope he's not too high on the tier list. "Oh I wanna use him because he's good!" It would suck for us Lucario fans who play him for him.

I think Lucario will wind up right around the middle. I don't think his weaknesses are easy enough to exploit to put him in the lower tier(s), but his lack of power when at lower percents is going to keep him out of the upper echelon of characters in terms of tournament winnings. His strong aerial game and damage scaling function will probably have him be moderately popular but not as advantaged as the true "top tier" (i.e. most exploitable) characters, and I doubt that will change even as the tier lists evolve in the coming years.

enough with the tier lists, they're really annoying.. There's no way to tell that if a character is top tier from a game being out for a month(in japan). Come back in a year or so..

How about this.

We speculate a reason as to why Lucario is a good (or bad I suppose) character, instead of debating on tier placement.

The point of these kinds of tier threads are not to determine precisely where one character is on the list. The point, perhaps not to the OP of the respective threads, is to incur discussion so that there will be speculation of how good one character is, and why.

So why is this important? So that there will be actual discussion. If you'll notice, the Lucario Boards are relatively dull (granted I haven't visited some of the other ones). At the very least we could discuss the potential uses of B-air, what "mindgames" could possible be specific to Lucario, what kill moves to use and when, to what extent should Lucario allow himself to be damaged, and such things.

If the point of this all were to determine tier placement, of course it would be better to wait until there has been a good string of tournaments. But fact of matter, we, but perhaps only I, are here to discuss why we think Lucario deserves to be in the ____ tier.

And if for no other reason at all, this might possible give other players a good insight as to why Lucario is or can be good.

Good call kenkowtow.

One thing I don't see brought up enough is that, once Lucario is at a moderate damage level (I think around 75% and up), a fully charged Aura Sphere will hit almost every character holding onto the ledge once the invincibility frames expire. This can be a very useful trick that, even if it doesn't surprise your enemy beyond the first time you hit them with it, will influence how a character fights your edgeguarding. I think it could be a strong "mindgame" (not fond of that term as much as it gets thrown around) tool for Lucario players.
