Hey, I'm planning on maining Toon Link, and my roommate mains Lucas. We're mostly evenly matched, but he always seems to get me in the end. Most of Lucas's attacks have incredible range, often having seemingly invisble hitboxes that reach outside the animations of each attack. I've tried shuffling some bairs on him, but he's so short it's hard to do so effectively until he's at a rather high percentage. His aerials are pretty good - his dair has a longer reach (from what i've seen) than TL's uair, and his other aerials seem to out-prioritize TL's - although i might just not be bringing them out fast enough. On the ground most of the tilts and jabs he uses come out fast enough to beat TL's, and have very little lag to punish. Sometimes he misses an usmash/dsmash and i get a few strong hits in though. His fsmash, though has hardly any warning beforehand, and usually gets me. At a distance there isn't much problem, but when trying to advance his PK fires give me trouble. Also he loves PK thunder/freeze when i'm trying to recover. Freeze isn't much of a problem, but thunder gets really annoying.

I'm definitely not the most skilled TL player, but any general tips for getting an advantage on him? Thanks a lot in advance.

I bomb my friend's Lucas, then move in with a quick Forward Smash. Keeping away from PK Thunder is impossible, I know, I play both of them. You're best hope is to get to a ledge before Thunder hits you or Air Dodge into your up B. And dodge roll around PK Star Storm. I don't know if you play with smash balls, but avoiding that gets to be a pain in the rear.

Oh yeah, don't forget the massive lag during thunder and after up smash on Lucas, that's your best chance to get in some hits and then smash him away. C-stick works well for that.

Unless your friend grabs a lot just smash out of your shield if he is at a high percent. If he is still low just start a bair combo out of your shield. If he is in front of you just grab him out of your shield and start a bair combo from that.

Keep in mind Lucas' recovery is crap. Exploit it.
