FLAME ME
Okay, Honestly, Can someone(all TL users) explain to me exactly how much different Toon Link is to Link? I always hear that the are quote " HELLA " different. But seriously, maybe just TL's floatiness , speed, and about 3 or 4 actual attacks are different? Is that really alot? Someone explain to me please.
Thanks.

The good Kilik will break it down.
A) Graphics: re-sprited and etc. You already knew that though :p Better: Y/N [up to you]
B) Weight: Mid range in the light weight class (aka less 'floatier' than jiggz but more floaty than... let say... squirtle.) Better: Y Reason: Being light allows him to use his moves and stay flexible, his game is all about being flexible, but at the same time he can take a lot of damage if he's used the right way. You must know when to get near the edges and when to stay clear of them though. Normal link is less effective because of his heavyness.
C) Projectiles: aka bombs , boomerang arrows and chain. Better: Y Reason: His flexibility and versatility make him the perfect little projectile powerhouse, he can rise high and fall fairly fast, as well as make use of all of his projectiles in one form or another.
D) Arials: 2x dair, fair, nair, uair Need I say more? Better: Y Reason: quicker to execute and smaller target to counter.
E) Standard attacks and smashes Better: N Reason: With toon link you must be an expert at your trade and wittle the opponent up to high damages unless you're going to try and score a lucky smash hit.Toon Link has some powerful smashes and great knockback, however it always feels more like luck to me. You also must be an expert at edgehogging, Toon Link is usually not one to KO off stage, but you needn't worry because your versatility will allow you to guard with major efficiency.
I'm sure i've forgotten ****, but that should loosely show you the difference. Toon Link is better, if nothing else his projectiles alone show this, no doubt about it.

I suggest you play as both, compare their moves, their floatiness and all that crap.

It's a balancing act between the two, but it does seem TL got the better half of the deal.
Ariels go to TL
Smashes go to Link
and it just keeps going like that. But it just seems TL has more versatility.
(I probably didn't help you one bit :colorful:)

Damagewise, both arials and smashes go to regular link (he consistantly gets good damage), but smash wise (pushwise, and all those other technical names) arials and smashes both go to toon link (the consistantly gets good punish/push/smash), so if you're looking for a quick ko and you're a good edgehog you can use tl pretty efficiently, large stages (aka the horrible newporktown) and flat stages where you have to run a long way to get to the edge of the stage (aka eldin) are TL's only real weakness if he's used efficiently. He needs a risky stage with floor smash room unless you want to wittle down the character to 120+ % and get a random smash.

I can definitely relate as I have played as Link in all the previous games, so I did here as well. Toon Link is just much faster with not too much loss in power. I find that so much more appealing over link. I personally like TL's air attacks better and with more combo potential as well.

It's a huge difference that there are some different moves, and speed is different too. The b-air is a major change, as it adds a ton of possibilities for Toon Link, and makes a very big difference. His up-smash is different, it's just one swipe, which is much more flexible to use and less laggy. He is quicker, pulling out the bomb and movement in general, which does give him an advantage, because he can pull out his bomb and get away before being attacked.

Got it. I guess he's basically how Luigi is to Mario. Basically the same but different. Kthxbai.

Er. . . that's not the best comparison I would make unless you're just saying he appears to be the same but actually plays quite differently and has some unique moves.

Toon Link has less of reach, aerial attacks are different, he floats, Air Down A is a meteor smash, he's faster, arrows and boomerang operate slower,

Personally to me, Toon Link seems more...graceful...faster and easier for me to use despite his short reach. I'm a disaster with regular Link.

What i mean with my post was not like a mario/luigi thing but more of a fox/falco thing. Same game(basically) SIMILAR attacks but they have different attacks/speed/floatiness/etc. I get it. So I guess to some people they are A LOT different and to some people they are just "kinda" different. Catch my drift?

I think TL is easier and more fluid than Link.
I kinda disagree on the side Smashes for both b/c I think they're equal if you've got the timing right.

They both can be good with timing, but Link's spread and range in smashes are much better than TL imo :)

i think toon link just flows better with my style and hes a bit faster too, thats why i like him better. the only time i consider being link is when i use a final smash with tl and it just hits them once and stops, plus links FS has a bigger distance to hit. in the end i stick with TL. I guess my point is yea, i guess u can say they`re similar, but who cares. just be the one your better with, or neither if you just came on this forum to ***** about him.
I am a long time Link/YL player from Melee, who initially planned on playing Link as a main in Brawl, with TL as a very close secondary. This is what I did in Melee and it worked well for me, although I did tend to switch to YL as a main from time to time.
However, when I first got Brawl, I liked Link's speed increase, but he had received a large power decrease. The more I became accustomed to Brawl, the less and less I was liking Link. So, I hurried to complete the Emissary and unlock Toon Link...and I have not looked back since. My core issues with Link are his boomerang (terrible!), mediocre smashes (in terms of KO prowess), overall less knock back, less follow-up ability out of a grab, and lack of priority on many of his moves versus most other characters. I am a big projectile user on Link...always have been...and found comboing after a projectile with Link in Brawl much more difficult than Melee, even.
Finally, we have a Link that can take full advantage of his projectile arsenal, who is quick and agile as YL was, but does not lack the killing power YL did. We finally have a Link that has great priority in the air, but still has to be careful on the ground (and that's all right with me.) He's a lightweight and can be killed fairly easily, but he can most certainly dish out the hurt in return.
Many people are toting TL has "top tier", and I personally find that to be a premature opinion. It's too soon to start designating tiers, and I think TL will fall down to "high" once players learn to properly control some of the other new characters. I could be wrong of course, but I frequently play an exceptional Zelda, for instance, that gives me a lot of problems. A very well-played Ike, DDD or Metaknight, as rare as that seems to be, does as well. He's certainly stronger than many characters I think, but I am not sure/convinced yet about that top/god tier slot. ;)
Then again, we were talking about Link versus Toon Link. Well, the decision to play Toon Link instead was a hard one for me because of my previous attachment to (big) Link, to be truthful. However, Link is just that horrible in comparison- it's larger than the gap between he and YL in Melee, and I have a hard time justifying playing him over TL. Also, after having to work extra hard in Melee just to be competitive with Link against the barrage of Marths, Foxes, Peaches, and Sheiks, I found myself with little desire to play a limited character, despite any amount of skill. :) I think TL is a formidable and fun Brawl character, with a lot of personality (as Link did have in WW.) So far, I am having a lot of fun with TL, the only thing I dislike about him is no (exploding) Milk taunt...I have had to resort to the (exploding) Windwaker taunt, instead.
I do not think everyone will agree with my opinions, and I really don't care. I've never been a big poster, but I am certainly a very seasoned Smash Brothers/Link player, and these are my thoughts.
