I can't for the life of me find an explanation in this forum regarding what RAR actually is. I see people talk about how important it is, but I never see what it stands for, nor what it does. I'm sorry if this HAS been answered many times but could someone please explain to me what "RAR" actually means and how TL can utilize the technique. Thanks, and sorry in advance if it has been answered, I just searched sooo many pages (including the guides) and couldn't find an answer.

run at someone, hit the opposite direction, then again towards the person, jump and bair. this command has ur back tuned at the opponent while keeping your running jump speed. gg

Skillfully done, I wouldn't have the gall to type all that out.

Pretty much sums it up, this is pretty essential in playing a good TL.

Very useful technique, greatly underused. It helps alot once you learn it.

how and when do you turn around?

turn around while you are jumping I think. I think the purpose is to jump forward with your back to the enemy, so you can do something like a back air.

I don't exactly know how to RAR either, but apparently you can auto RAR by pushing the C-stick in the opposite direct youre running...not totally sure how that works either, if someone who knows what to do could help us out.

Yea, to be honest though I'm having a whole lot of trouble with short hops in this game (really just with toon link). I think he may be a little bit floatier than some of the other characters but either way I can't get my SHs consistent yet which makes the RAR a little inconsistent as well.

Basically what it is is you run then press in the opposite direction so you turn around and then you jump. As soon as you jump you press in the direction that you were running so you are jumping and moving in the same direction that you were running but facing the other way. This is extremely helpful because you can do Bairs while moving towards your opponent. Bairs are much more effective than Fairs and this is what really improves TLinks air game. Most of the videos that are out already show people doing this a lot, just visit the other threads to watch them.

Ok. To make this as simple as possible. Run, once you get to range where you can hit with your back arial, turn around quickly jump, and bair as you go up, and down. Also type in Toon link on youtube or Toon link rar if you still dont get it..

... Or he could just see one of the Toon Link combo vids: they all have bairs.

I have seen all the vids. But before this thread, how would I know what to look for? Thank you all for the great info!

I personally think of it as a very similiar move to Marth's F-air, it's a bread and butter move that sets up a lot of awesome combos, my favourite for example, RAR -> 2 B-Airs over the edge -> D-Air to spike them to thier death.

It has near limitless usage.

Look for when they turn around and jump to setup a bair... one second il edit in a part of a specific video when they RAR...

You can also set your C-stick to do Special attacks and when running hit the C-stick in the opposite direction than your running in. You auto-RAR and all you have to do is bair.

I may just have a crappy wireless controller, but when I run foward then jam back on the C stick, it only works if I've been running for about...2 or 3 TL lengths, otherwise I just throw my boomerang, is that normal?

That's just how it works...unfortunately.

This is the one reason why I've been switching back and forth between c-sticking and b-sticking.

Auto RARs are great...but I don't think it's very realistic to think they get much use in a real match. I don't often find myself across the level from someone with the opportunity to sprint at them...

In close combat you have to physically turn yourself around, you can't perform the Auto-RAR...

I know there have been a few threads, but anyone else wanna chime in about whether they think c-sticking or b-sticking is better...

b-stick you get auto RAR (though I don't think this is too useful...), and easier specials (although I can special with the b button fine on my own), and perhaps easier SHDAs...

c-stick, easier smashes and arials...

... You do understand that even though you use it for specials, it's still a c-stick... Whatever.
I don't use a Gamecube controller, so I'd choose to use the c-stick for specials (I mean come on, the smashes/aerials aren't that difficult to pull off :))

Yes....clearly it's still a "c-stick" in name. By switching between c-sticking, and b-sticking, I was simply using the accepted nomenclature around here...

c-stick (from everything I've seen) refers to normal c-stick use (smash attacks)
b-stick refers to switching "specials" to the c-stick.

There...I hope that clears up any confusion.

Yes, arials are easy to pull off without the (smash) c-stick, but I'm beginning to wonder if a smash attack can be pulled off slightly faster with the c-stick...

I bet smashes comes faster with c-stick.

It depends on the player, but usually smash attacks are slightly faster with the c-stick.
But they can't be charged with the c-stick...
