I'm having trouble deciding who do main. I play a mix of TL, Snake and Metaknight usually (Mostly toon link, which is why I posted here), and my roomie and long time friend / gaming rival plays ZSS. Annoying strategy, all he does is throw armor at the start, then d-air, u-smash and >smash with that long *** whip, I can never dodge it since its like 6 feet in front of him and 2 behind. But I digress, I'll deal with him on my own.

Anyway, I like to play mainly CQ ground fighting, but like having a projectile for just in case moments. Snake usually works fine, but is a bit slow for my tastes. MK is fast with amazing recovery, but no projectiles and really light. TL is a nice balance, but most of his best attacks are midair moves (though only mediocre recovery, odd), and for some reason, my mind refuses to work with my hands when I'm in the air. Again, work on that myself, so moving on.

Any strats for these chars or ideas of others that might be more to my playing style? I realize I might get a lot of TL answers because it is his board, but here, unlike the Gfaqs boards, I really do expect some serious responses. :P

Wow, that is a wall of text, sorry.

... Sheild the armor I guess... just try to approach him from angles he can't hit you with his armor, then, use it against him or throw it out the stage. As for his smashes, ever heard of Toonie's PROJECTILES? If you can stay away from him long enough and rack up damage, all you need to worry about will be to kill him off. Oh, and try to get him into the air.

Wha?? Toonie's recovery rocks!

lolz @ GFaqs. It depends on you. I find that with Snake, you need to think some more, with Meta-Knight you have to dodge more, whereas Toonie... just heads into the pack and/or fires from a distance...

CRACKERSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS SSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS ... what? I didn't make you read this...

Yea, I try to keep him at a distance, but Zamus is just to frikkin fast. And that down B.... can never hit the bugger. While I do have damage over ZSS, she always seems to have air priority for some reason. Or maybe I'm just slow...

Anyway, part of it might be that he only plays Zamus and I've been switching around, so focusing in on one character might help me too. Other opinions are still helpful tho :bee:

Out of the three you mentioned, snake is the best character (this is to say that he has the best pick-up potential and best attack power per his weaknesses), however if you play toon link and feel that you are most skilled with him, you should stick with him and take snake as your minor. Notice I haven't touched on MK because MK is worthless unless you invest lots of time in him, being as he is all attack and dishing out bind attacks (attacks that increase % over a certain amount of time) and can be countered extremely easily.
