What is RAR? I do not know what it looks like or how to perform it...
I would like to know how to do it on Toon Link.
Sorry, I'm a noob.

Yeah but what does it look like and why does everyone emphasize it so much?

Yeah, RAR means Reverse Aeriel Rush. Basically what you do it run forward, pivot, and jump back. This gives you the full momentum of a forward jump, but backward. It's very important because Toon links B-air is a key move. It has zero lag, covers his entire back, and can combo with itself.

If you want to see what RARing is, on a gamecube custom control setup, change the C-stick from smash to special. While running with the control setup, press back on the C-stick, and Toon link will jump and be facing the opposite way, ready to B-air. hope that helped.

Wait, so how do you do it?
Any specific controls or something?

look at any vids from kizzu or someone, you'll see them do it all the time.

Thats very helpful, I've been trying to get it down manually from the tattered descriptions I've picked up here and there.
Now I can practice this

it's not that hard actually. If you can already short hop consistently (which i can't in the heat of battle), it's just a matter of being patient.

Everyone's first instinct is to flick the stick in the opposite direction, and then jump instantly. It's important to wait just a tiny moment to give link a chance to turn around before you bust out the short hop. toon link bair>>all

I'm also pretty noob when it comes to competitive Smash, so when you say "pivot," you mean dashing, then smashing the control stick in the opposite direction, correct? This'll turn the character around, without actually dashing in the opposite direction then?

You are correct, cooper. And from there, you jump in the direction you were initially dashing and perform a backwards aerial.

Mm..this is a good move...especially when someone is in the air waiting for a beating haha

Cool, thank you. I've been working on the procedure a bit in Training, and I've got it down for the most part. The only problem I'm having now is the application. Since I'm still a beginner, I can only do it with a little running room, which means I need to be somewhat far away from my opponent. When I try dashing at them at the start of the match, I either get shut down by a laser (spacies) or a sword longer than mine. Should I just go back to Training on a slower time setting to practice jump distance, or are there only specific times I should attempt it? I've been watching kizzu's videos, but the difference in skill between us is so great that it really isn't helping that much.... Not to mention that i'd like my own style, not merely copying his.

You want to learn to veil your approach, such as tossing a boomerang/arrow before you rush in. Just dashing from way across the stage, you'll be spotted and punished. Though you can simply wait until someone rolls behind your back, shield, and jump out of your shield with a bair.

Yeah yeah, you want to pop them up a little. So use those projectiles. Or if they're foolish, they will more than likely be trying short hops and that's basically like saying "Please back air me." So go for it then. Also the beauty of the back air is that you can do it twice per short hop, and numerous times for a regular jump. I've comboed people completely off the stage with a combination of bairs and nairs (which is also pretty fast and very nice since it hits on both sides) and then I finish it off with Toon Link's glorious up air. That's a killer.

cool thanks, it's pretty easy to do

RAR is really useful, but even for those who can't do it yet, short hop nair is just as good past 50% or so. and short hop bair going forward will sometimes hit from the front if you get close enough. obviously, though, RAR bair is the best option, just not the easiest for everyone to do

Ah...I think I got some hang of it now.
I press the opposite direction as I hit the ground with my second bair from SH

I've been wondering followups to a RAR'd bair. I found that you can do an arrow right out of it before / while landing, which is useful at low %'s because they won't go flying up, but will be on the ground.

Are there any other moves to do out of an RAR'd bair? I can do a 2x SH bair, but I don't think I can do that with while RARing.
