I was playing brawl with a few of my friends and used toon link's dair. but when i did, i just hovered for a while untill he came out of the attack. My question is this: is that just a one time glitch or can it be replicated. Please help.

um yea, whenever you have a certain amount of upward momentum youll usually hover

If you're attacked and sent flying up into the air you get momentum, this momentum stops the down air for working correctly, you'll do the attack animation but won't go towards the ground. It still does the same amount of damage is it hits, if i remember correctly, but its still a pain in the ***.

Yeah I had this happen to me too and thought it was glitch. Apparently from what these guys say it is repetitive. This Dair Hover could probally be used as a mind game for your opponent too.

I think it happens if you use dair after you are hit. Then you can move backwards and forwards in the dair position.

Just because it can be consistently applied doesn't mean it's not a glitch. Look at Wavedashing, for example.

Didn't the game designers intentionally leave wavedashing in Melee? I remember reading something that said they found it in testing and decided it wasn't too broken.

As for the Dair, upward momentum after being hit lets you either hover or travel down less slowly. There is a certain amount of time that it is in effect, so even if you're still turning in the air, after a second or so you can travel down at lightning speed. Excellent for mindgames.

The Dairhover is useful to get a nice slide for when your being juggled. Basically you interrupt the persons higher juggles, causing them to fall down giving you a reentry to the stage chance, and time to grab a bomb and follow up with a spike (In the event the juggler has higher priority then your Dair)
