to consistently implement a SHDA is tough for a guy like me whose thumb (for some reason) isnt savvy to tapping buttons quickly...ive seen it mentioned in this forum before, and im vouching for the perfect remedy as simply relocating buttons to places where your fingers could work quickly enough and comfortably enough to execute the double arrows...in my case, i simply moved my special button to A (i use the gamecube controller) and my attack button to B...this way i could easily--in a single motion--roll my thumb off of the jump button directly onto special leaving me enough time to press special again just before touching the ground...since ive made the change i havent had any trouble with the technique, which is pretty much essential for anyone who mains TL

for all you ppl like me who cant seem to press those **mned buttons quickly enough using the default button layout...you should experiment to see what works best for you...good luck

I tried setting my jump to R so I could hit B immediately after, but I'm finding it a bit difficult to short hop with R. :/

Somebody said that it's about timing. You have to time it instead of mashing the special button.

You can still slide transition from X to B. Otherwise I'd recommend not taking A off attack and map Y to be your special button.

I just have X as special, so I just roll my thumb from Y to X.

I also like how this thread has the "Thumbs Up" icon.

the way my buttons are configured i dont smash the special button...the way theyre positioned just allows be to press it immediately after jump without having to lift my thumb...being able to press special quickly enough is what i think the timing is all about

I already made an article on this. If rolling your thumb works, making either X or Y special works best. For someone like me who isn't even fast enough at that, I use R as jump.
The key is being quick with the first special press. The second arrow is the easy one, it is usually the first arrow that is too slow.

I really do want to change my button around and the like but I don't want to start going to tournaments and they don't allow you to change button configurations.

I do a shorthop>B Button>X Button it works pretty well for me. I'm just getting used to the timing.

haha this is a great setup you have here for controls, it makes me regret all that time I spent learning to do it with the default control scheme :/

I wonder if it's similar to the timing of Marth's double fair in Melee, because I'm starting to be able to do that as well.

I prefer to jump with X and special with Y for SHDA. I hate that it's difficult to pull off in wifi though, due to lag. If it's very laggy I sometimes stick to using the canceled arrows only. Anyway, when I was having issues I realized I was mashing the buttons too quickly. As others have said, that first arrow is the most important; the second (and canceled) arrow is the easier of the two.

Default classic controller setup works the same way. Just wanted to add that.

I think the SHDA is much harder than the double fair. So that might be why you are able to do it now. In Melee, I could do double fairs pretty easily but it wasn't the same for me in Brawl. The SHDA needs more timing while the double fairs could be done by basically mashing the A button really fast.

SHDA is actually really simple..sh and fire arrow almost at the same time and then you *wait* O_O and fire again..just hit the punching bag a little bit and it will be very easy..you just have to realize that the first arrow must fire asap and then its all timing which isnt too hard..same with sh->bomb throw->arrow..just allow enough time for the arrow to fire

How about using tap jump? It is possible to do a tap jump short hop, ya know....

I have no problem doing this. Become good at short hopping using the analog stick rather than than the x or y buttons. Then you won't have to roll your fingers over the joystick.

i dont mean to sound like a d**k, but im struggling to see the trouble, i just sat down in training for about half an hour, and now all you see when playing me is arrows flying all over the place...

seriously, just put on training, and like a lot advanced techniques, split it up. so first learn to quickdraw (pressing b just before you touch the ground, i guess similar timing to l-canceling in melee) when youve got that down, concentrate on short hopping and QUICKLY sliding your finger to B, so first arrow is coming out as you peak your jump, once youve got that half sorted, just join them. just remember to time the quickdraw rather than mash B. sorry if i was just stating the captain obvious there, but hope i helped at least someone!

im not exactly sure why you seem to be complaining?? whats wrong with trying to find a button configuration someone is more efficeint and comfortable with?? you make it sound like you can only be considered a good player unless you abide strictly by the default settings...

"you're super cool" i guess is what you wanted to hear from someone after posting that comment...happy??
