Looking for sub-main for Toon Link

The title pretty much says it all. Toon Link is my main and I'm not sure who I want to sub-main for tournaments as a counterpick. Essentially I'm looking for someone who can shine against many of Toon Links tougher match ups like Meta Knight or Rob.

Please do not suggest Meta Knight as I will not play him at a tournament level (I'll play him in friendlies but I just can't feel as good about winning anything with him as I could with pretty much any other character, mostly because there are SOOOO many in my area. Pretty much everyone mains Meta Knight and I really don't feel good about winning with an over popular and possibly over powered character)

I'm more willing to give Snake a try but I'd like to hear some options first.

I've looked at both Falco and Wolf and I wouldn't mind either of those but I'd like to hear other opinions before I really start practicing with my sub.

Lucas. Toon Link is my personal favorite also, friend, and I think you'll find Lucas to be really fun, too. Hehe.

I main Olimar and TL is my secondary and I like both of them, but if you want to beat MKs you should stay away from Olimar and play Snake or DK instead :/

Falco, superb combo game, or Marth, because he is all round excellence.

I main Toon-Link also and I back him with these two and Pikachu to some extent. I'm also getting more and more fond of Game and watch and Zelda/Sheik.

Yeah, DK would be the choice there. Aside from the fct that DK destroys MK, he and TL are really fun to play consecutively because while TL is small, floaty, long ranged, and has limited killing potential, DK is a huge, hulking, close range monster who kills anyone over 80% like they were sentenced to capitol punishment.

Well, I dont see any other threads asking this question or even a similar question in the same context, so I must assume this is directed at me specifically and not simply a generalization towards "noobs".

On that note, I feel compelled to note that I have made two threads like this, one in the Toon Link forum and one in the Meta Knight forum in order to get a better spread of answers from people who A. know my main and B. people who know one of my biggest problems.

Now I don't see a problem with this as the two threads are in completely different areas where this subject can be applied differently and will involve a different, perfectly valid discussion.

I hope that this thread hasn't upset you or caused you some great inconvenience but if it has I'd ask that you take it up with the moderators.

Now, back on topic.

I'd like to thank everyone for the suggestions, I've been trying out many of these characters in the last few days and so far I can say that I've really been enjoying Marth, Falco and Wolf (although I don't know that anyone has made this suggestion).

I have some issues with Donkey Kong, I just dont seem to like his play style so that's out as a sub.

That in mind, of Marth, Falco and Wolf, which character works best against other characters that Toon Link often has trouble with? I'm thinking characters like Olimar or Wolf.

marth looses to both mk and snake so no.

DK is probably the best choice. His playstyle is completely different from TL's but I suggest you learn to adapt if you want to be successful in this game.

I use Ike myself, he's very good (although I can't say too much against TL's match ups), and he's pretty fun -- At least for me (which is the whole reason I use him as a alt.)

i would say falco. i used to main tl but decided to switch to falco cause he has holy bread that nobody can touch. "hands off my bread!" ftw

Personally I use Marth and Falco as well but I can't think of any situation where I'd rather have Falco over Toon Link. Yeah Falco can stage grab and spike, but his horrible recovery and lack of ranged attack -> combo options turns me off of him over TL. Marth I think would be a good choice, especially for the following characters:

MetaKnight. Kirby. Jigglypuff. They all don't do well with bounced dAir mixups for shielding opponents (Yes, I know its not a good move, however against shielding opponents the bounce allows instant aerials after which works well on some, but back on topic) and the first hit of Toon Links f-Smash often launches them too high for the KO hit to strike without escape time first. Not to mention the 20% dSmash kill doesn't work well on that, so gimping abilities kind of sucks too. Marth's ranged sword doesn't have much a problem hitting them, so I'd definately switch for him if you're that concerned about matchups.

If you're looking for MK counter, pick either DK or Snake. If you don't want to pick either, don't even bother.
