View Full Version : TL chain grab???

So I've been working on this for sometime now but I don't think its a definite chain grab like what ddd, falco, and IC's can do. I made this video a few minutes ago just to show how it works, maybe someone can work off it to make something new. Doesn't work on every character and most people can DI out of it unless they lose they're 2nd jump but its fun and most people don't see it coming. Timing is the most important part here seeing how TL CAN grab someone in the air but its so hard to pull. Here is the video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uq926RGAQls

Discuss.

1. Grab
2. Down Throw
3. Pivot Grab (Timing is important)
4. Down Throw
5. etc.

Works until 40-55% then they can easily DI out of it.

Also I haven't tested this on every character but its usually harder to pull of on floaty character and easy for fast fallers and big characters.

P.S. I have done this in tournament a few times and got the "WTF" Face from people lol

I'll try this out later with my sister.

So it works mostly on fastfallers right? Or do floaty people like Marth work too?

Yes I have done this on Marth before.

Hmm not sure I haven't tested this on every character yet. But I do know that its hard to pull off on mario bros.

Cant they just jump out of it at any %? I mean if dthrow wasnt escapable I'd rather be pulling off utlit > bair strings than grabs, Tlinks grab game sucks and bair strings are much more useful (and can lead to various stuff)

He said they can jump out of it.
And if they do, you grab them again.
TL's grab game is good wtf?

Yes most of the time as you can see in the video that does happen but for some characters like fox, falco, wolf since they fall fast then its easier to pull off. Also if you can catch someone in their 2nd jump then thye can't jump out of it or if they lose the jump in the process.

Also if they jump out it and you grab them before they land then you can keep on doing it, you can also try it without pivot grabs.

I was wondering if this was the grab you were thinking of Lobos.

Yea it's not definite but can work if the person doesnt want to jump out of the grab.

Me and Dojo have tried this kinda of chaingrab on most of the top and high tier characters already before.
Everyone can jump out of it or attack.
If you try on snake he can put a Back air in your face.

Its more of a wait and react kind of chaingrab. More mindgames involved.

If the person your playing thinks they will just land on the ground and shield because they think back airs are coming then yes it will work.
Basically if the opponent tries to land on the ground after the Dthrow then it will work.

Even if they airdodge before they hit the ground and you shot the chain trying to catch them in the air,I Believe you can still grab them because they will hit the ground and be there standing or in their sheild and the chain will still connect.
Not positive on that though.

I get it on Dk a lot. I have a few of the clips on my next combo video.

But yea its more of a wait and see if the opponent is going to land behind you, then just pivot and grab them. And if a heavy character like Snake or DDD tries to attack you after the throw, then just shield their back air and grab them when they hit the ground.

This will actually take skill for Toon Link to make it work.
Ha once again we dont have it easy like Falco or DDD but who cares
:)
Toon takes skill to play and that makes it feel so good when you win a match.

Good stuff though Lobos. I'm sure alot of users didn't know about this.

Also Lobos, the grab release can work too but it too is more mind game oriented.
If the opponent breaks from the grab on the ground, they will usually just spot dodge thinking another grab is coming or some attack.

Pivot grab= another grab and more damage
:)

I tried this, got punished, eventually.

But I rather try something else, punishing is something you don't want too often, probably best for unsuspecting opponents.

This will work on players for a couple grabs if you flow it into your game with mindgames and other techniques.

Yeah, it works well because its a move nobody expects TL to do because grabbing is so punishable.

I'd been doing this move a while back when i switched from DDD to TL, because i loved the fact how easy it was to get damage with DDD via grabs so i was experimenting and found the best way to do this is just slightly tilt the control stick towards the direction you just threw them so you just slightly walk inbetween. It works the same with D3's infinate grab.

Looks hard to pull off since most of my friends wouldn't land right next to me for a free hit. I'm going to try this out when i vs my friends but it will take me some time to master it.

I performed it perfectly on the fox user in our pool at CH3 lol yeah I actually knew about this for awhile but just now posting about it recently...

I am now working on something new with the momentum tilts but we'll see where I go with it.

Yeah this isn't really a chaingrab, but it works sometimes. Situational, like Toon Link himself.
