hm. I never really found it too useful. What sort of situations do you use it in/ have a match vid where you use it?

I actually do it a lot in general, but the situations that tend to call for it are when someone is landing (you can either run past them and grab them from behind [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l9JURC8HPLM about 38 seconds in]or walk in to bait an aerial and quickly run away/turn back to grab them out of it [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fTlXAhnSZDU at 3:33] pretty blatant reach extension too), as a retreat against faster characters running in (I do this on dedede too). It's actually pretty handy on a slower character and in particular for someone whose normal grab range is so pathetic a quick turn around and pivot to grab might snatch someone out of a position a standing grab might not have (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_-dL_4eBi2M at 0:41 for another rather blatantly huge grab range) while giving you that extra inch of space you might want should you not want to take a hit in the case you flub a grab (an example being here in http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zU2pik55Zrg where I miss a grab and get jabbed for it whereas a pivot grab by taking a step away would have grabbed him from that position, or if it missed, been out of range of falcon's jab altogether, whereas ike's has enough range to bridge that gap). You also get into the habit of putting yourself into the position where your opponent doesn't know if they're going to catch a back air, a neutral air or a grab.

Some other examples of use would be http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kjwhGYjcfew at 0:51, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UtII8VEDP1U at 16 seconds in, and at various points in http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lQYNo-Do_No (it's not exactly a long video).

It is a better way to get people off the edge especially if you pivot grab to bthrow like you did in the first video.

Or, you can turn back on the control stick really fast, and do a grab whilst turning around again.

It performs a pivot grab right in front of your original location, with increased range on a grab as a result.

Though you dont get the boon of manipulating your throws for the situation, extra grab range is always good.

I do see you do it a lot but then again you also use Dtilt more than Utilt so meh... I just never think to do it and I'd rather get that Jab > bair combo down first.

Pivot grabs are useful, especially on players that love to spot dodge or shield. In my matches against Roger (A marth player), I normally start by doing 2 jabs, he prepares to dodge a third hit, instead I just dash and do a pivot grab.

Pivot grabs are situational and it depends on how effectively you can place it into your game. It's worth a shot at least to practice using.

And good vids Ryko

Pivot grabbing is awesome, I use it a lot after an FThrow. However, I never considered it using it for much else; thanks for the tip, Rykoshet.

yea, I started to pivot grab more, and my game has improved quite a bit because of it.

thanx for the simple (yet effective) advice Ryko
