I've been looking at these boards since half december and I figured I'd go and show myself. I'm new to Toon Link, I started playing him at the beginning of december and I kind of got the hang of it. I still don't quite know how to survive long. I always kill myself with D-air or people hit me when I hit the ground.
If anyone wants to play me, post it here, I'll be glad to :)

Don't dair.
I'm not going to say anything about DI, so: don't get hit.

Haha so true, don't dair offstage at least. You can try it when your opponent is trying to get back onstage, and you're at the very end of the stage...if you land it it may spike them to their doom, if you miss, you'll hit the stage and not suicide.
As for DI, it's simple. If you get hit vertically, tilt the control stick to the left or right.
If you get hit horizontally, tilt the control stick preferably up, but down if you have to.
The reason this works is because it changes your trajectory...as you know, the fastest way to get from point A to point B is a straight line, but changing your trajectory like this makes your path more curved and longer, and it's a more indirect route to the "blast zone"
Also, if you get used to the the directional influence from the control stick, you should add in Bair (for TL) to be able to jump again or fastfall...bah. Here, watch this http://allisbrawl.com/video/video.aspx?id=7928
One of the most useful Brawl videos ever made.
Anyway, enough about DI. If you're starting Toon Link, I can give you some advice that will make you great if you're just starting out:
1. Learn how to use Zair (aerial hookshot). It has good range, and has no lag when you land. Learn when to use it, and what it combos into...learning to use it early on is good, I still haven't gotten myself into the habit of using it properly.
2. Learn how to autocancel arrows when landing...hit B right before/as you hit the ground and you'll shoot an arrow with no lag. Really useful.
3. Learn what projectiles to use, and where. Yeah.
Just do that stuff and it's a good start, I think XD I'm not going to pretend my Toon Link is great. Everytime I save a replay of my Toon Link "kicking ***" and I want to upload it to youtube to show my fellow Toon Links...I rewatch the replay, and think to myself "why did I think this was good? I make soooo many mistakes"

And some useful Links so you can browse around with ease.

Just search around there for information about how to survive, how to kill, and how to rack up damage. Remember projectiles are a key part of your game, and so is z-air. TL is like a Mini Mart with bombs.
Also, join this group and ask any questions you want to. It's basically the TL General Discussion group, but pretty much anything goes. No rules unless they violate Smash Boards law.

Have fun.
