Toon Link in Brawl+

The purpose of this thread is to discuss and converse about the specifics of Toon Link in Brawl Plus. Toon Link in Brawl+ is pretty decent. I've only played it once, but BAir chains are so much easier.

Unfortunately due to universal changes in making everyone's shorthop shorter, TL is only able to arrow cancel from a SH bair now. This means TL has a harder time creating a wall if he's retreating.

His previous problems of finding it difficult to approach due to his shortrange is still present. His safer aerials still have smaller shieldstun [compared to other aerial approaches like that of a tipper Fair from Marth]. This means that spacing and hit and run tactics still have a huge significance to TL's game.

Think of him like Sheik, a little bit of a hard time getting in, but rapes so hard once he gets inside it's a good thing he was built like that.

His zair -> grab is no longer possible, and actual zair is now a techchase which is both a good/bad thing. A good thing is that there's true stun for combos, bad thing is that they can DI down and tech immediately. Luckily Zair cancels with only 2 frames of lag, meaning it rarely matters (I think).

If you do grab, at 100+, you can Bthrow to sex kick Uair and it kills relatively low. Think of it...as Sheik's Melee Uair. <__<

Also, due to lack of knockback decay, a starter combo -

SH Zair -> bomb throw (assumes you are already carrying the bomb) -> hyphen smash sets up for bair chains early, and allows you to end it with uair, nair (hopefully the one that hits twice due to your intentional bad spacing) or even dair.

So yes, bair -> dair (Kizzu Combo) is legitimate.

Also his dair is one of the best but dumbest edgeguards ever.

He can literally stand by the ledge and SH dair.

One happens is -

1. You sweetspot and don't die.
2. The spike kills you.
3. The air effect moves you from the ledge and you die from Fall Special.

The third one makes it so recoveries with a big 'finale' hitbox at the end like Link's, Wolf's, Ike's, even TL himself can get gimped in a hiliariously stupid way. Certainly he has no trouble gimping or killing in Brawl+.

Also IDK about whether or not this is intentional but you can roll into the ledge (with any char I think), hold shield and then gimp Marth Melee-style as his DS will hit you into the ledge.

Gay dumb stuff but sh*t works.

And you can't only bair to arrow cancel. I'm 100% sure I've SHDA'ed and I'm pretty sure I've nair to arrowed.

I played Brawlplusery 3.2, and could never do that. I even asked someone else and they said no.

IDK, although I am the least technical TL so it's not farfetched that I just suck at everything.

Yeah, I've got some Brawl+ replays where I did SHDA, and a couple times from nair. The timing on it is just far harder than in regular brawl, which leads me to not use Arrow cancels as much in +.

You can SHDA, and Nair to Arrow Cancel but the it's a tighter squeeze to do it, It's more preferable to just Bair Quickdraw then SHDA or Nair to Arrow Cancel. Instead of SHDA, I either do a SH Arrow or SH, FF Quickdraw. Though arrow shouldn't be used a whole lot. You probably want to base your metagame on Melee Link (Mainly Bombs and Rang)

But I'm unsure out pulling out a bomb to arrow with Tink in B+.

Zair to Zair in B+ is still sexy ;)

Top/high tier material definetely. VG said everything there is to know. And bair to dair is too goodz. <3
