Hello, all! For those that don't know me, I'm Virg. I moderate things. I'm also in charge of the newly founded Discussion Leader group and I had an idea sprout in my head not too long ago.
Every individual character board is quite different and many are truly contrasting. Seeing as how I'm tasked with encouraging discussion and help throughout the boards, I thought that maybe encouraging some similar layouts on each board would help new people (or board hermits) that eventually strolled into other boards. Not that they would get lost, but just that it would be easier and the process alone would be gratifying.
So with that, I'm here for a proposition (not of that kind!): a reformatting and update of the character guide, if it needs one. I see a lot of good threads that are kept up to date. You guys would probably be helping other boards with teh TL match up more than anything else...probably. But I digress.
So for those of you that don't want to read: I would like to try to get every character board to clean up and organize their character board guides/stickies. Some are fine as is (http://www.smashboards.com/showthread.php?t=225527). Others...not so much. I'm asking this for a shot of dialogue and cross communication throughout the boards as well as making the stickies less cluttersome.
So, what do you guys say? This is all voluntary. Just wanted to try to spruce the boards up a bit. If you have any opinions or questions, I'd be happy to hear them :)

Stop using correct grammar and spelling. There's nothing for me to correct.
Well anyways I think this is a great idea. This would definitely help people like me who are just picking up a new secondary character (Pika is too cute. lol)
On top of that I feel many new people get easily confused and aren't always set entirely straight when they make a thread saying they are new.
One good thing I saw on the Pika boards is they labeled their important links thread with the phrase "new Pikas, start here" or something like that. That kind of thing would be great to spread to the other boards so newer TLs know exactly where to look.
Edit: @_@ Your sig changes everytime I reload the page... This is too fun...

OMG it does!
this would be a good idea, to organize all the char. boards better,
it would also be easier for ppl who are new to the site to find things
they still make new threads tho IDKY when there r inquires on every board

Because they don't know to go to the inquiry. Maybe there should be a rule that doesn't let them post until they've checked the inquiry/Q&A thread.
I also feel it would be a good idea to merge the useful links thread with the inquiry thread on the basis that it's much easier to direct people to links if those links are in the OP.
But that's just IMO. >_>

You can't really stop anyone from posting before looking at a thread. It would be nice though.
And I've thought about doing that with the Inquiry/ Useful Links thread, but then I realized that they're both pretty much separate enough to need their own thread.
About the topic, yeah. I've already read about this and thought it was a good idea.
The TL boards don't have a guide right now, but I'll be making it sometime this month probably. >_>
I'll make sure to keep it user friendly? ^_^;

My guide was pretty cool... :(

None of our current guides are finished and the few that are aren't up to date.
We need a complete comprehensive guide to TL that even includes tricks we don't think anyone would use 'cause some newer player might figure out a good use.

I would be against merging the Inquiry and Useful Links threads. Having too many threads can be a bad thing, but so can having too few; if everything becomes one massive thread then it'd be just as annoyingly disorganized to sort through as having a thousand small threads imo.
These two work better separate imo.
Once Sasuke finishes his new Useful Links thread I personally thing the "The Never Ending List of Toon's AT's and Tricks" thread should be removed from being a sticky. Nothing wrong with it, but it will have its place in the Useful Links thread. Not only that but much of it will(I assume) find its way into Sasuke's guide whenever that shows up.
Also, speaking of Sasuke's guide; Sasuke, I'd like to help with this guide if possible. Two people working on it should help make things move faster and it'll take off some of the massive workload you've given yourself.
Hell, it might even motivate me into starting up my research thread again. >_>

A little off topic but I wouldn't mind helping either. Not sure what I could do though.

Something we really need is a Toon Link guide, which Sasukebowser will take care of when he can. I hope that we can all contribute to the guide, like we do with the AT thread. A more organized Useful Links thread would also be nice. Putting a "Read Here Before Making a Thread" in the title for the Inquiry thread is a must.
Something that I noticed that we DON'T have is a Counterpicks directory. We have the match-up threads, and we discuss counterpicks, but it isn't posted in the match-up summary (or at least in the ones i've read).

Ideally that would be part of Sasuke's guide. >_>
I think match-ups are a huge part of TL's game and should be put in the guide on that basis. I also think it would be wise to debate TL's two best stages in general so we know what the best place to go would be when your out of advantageous options.
I'm willing to lead that discussion (and I really think I can) but only if you guys think it would be beneficial to our gameplay in general. Obviously everyone has at least one stage they do good on but IMO it would be useful to know what stage benefits us the most without comparing how we do in direct relation to other characters.
On the other hand, if that doesn't sound useful, we could discuss stages that makes us pretty much go even with characters in addition to counter-picks.

I just want the counterpicks/bans to be added to all the character matchups. If i'm not mistaken, they are all already discussed. They just aren't added to the match up summary of all the characters in the directory.
But yeah, everything is pretty much done. All we need to do is push all the work in sasukebowser's direction and wait for him to finish. I'm sure we all agree with that plan, right? :)

I just think we should have a stage to turn to in case we can't CP the designated ones for that match-up.
Actually now that I think about it, we should probably just change the CP/Ban thread into the stage discussion thread once we finish all the characters (which I think we have).

The guide will include matchups and their counter picks along with many, many other things I've had planned for a while now.
And it will be perfectly organized and I'll take any suggestions you guys give me to make it better.
Moth, I was going to also discuss stages (It's at the bottom of the first post in the counterpick/bad thread, I think, if i haven't deleted it >_> ), but you can start one if you really want to, I won't stop you.
And there are 2 characters left in the counterpick/ban thread (I'll update Yoshi later today).

Well, you haven't moved past Yoshi in that thread. Move on to stages so mine won't be necessary.
The less threads the better.

The problem is i think it'll look unorganized, honestly. I wouldn't mind a separate thread.
It's more of "two separate, related" things , then "two things that would be ok together".
But we should really take this to visitor messages, Moth. >_<

Actually, since this is about organization of the board I think it's plenty relevant.
Well either way, I'll get started on that.
