in an effort to bring some meat to DK discussion and to ultimately develop donkey kong towards the higher tiers, i wanted to ask about donkey ground slaps

aside from how rediculous it looks, lets talk about its use in higher level play?

its got a pretty good hit radius and can usually pop up roll-spammers pretty consistently for more up-air or bair action. for those playing against experienced opponents, does its range work pretty well as a fake-out?

im thinking about dashing at someone, say marth. the usual offensive move would be to dash dance to confuse and get a reaction to take advantage of, tilt forward or duck slap, or short hop for abused b-air or f-air or soemtimes even d-air. a good player would be ready with the tip of the sword to keep the kong at bay or shield grab maybe. but what about ground slapping just out of range of his B or forward smash?

im pretty sure the donkey ground slap can outrange most or even any characters smashes. one tap of the b button can pop up to pester an opponent off the side with juggles or dash shield grabs.

this may work in theory, but has anyone seen it used or used it against good players?

also, anyone wish to share thoughts on the up-B twirl on the ground as way to hit vertically, since it starts with quick upstrike thats faster then his other up hits?

Although I cannot help you wiht the Up-B, I have four words for the question right there : Out Of A Shield.

It seriously works, because as you know, you can up-b out of a shield, and using this with DK has the vertical strike like you talked about. I've been hit with this tactic, so I can assure it is good for anti-air if you can get the timing.

thanks twp, that up-b out of shield ive noticed playing recently packs quite whollup, sending em off at a low enough angle to edge guard well against.

well i do use it now from time to time. it is pretty much strictly player discretion. one konkey tip for y'all: its good vs ice climbers! its always important to separate them so if u can prop the stupid one in the air, she meat for u. it not very effective to combo anyone else cuz it has too bad of lag (peepl just jump away b4 u get them), but against st00pid ice climber AI, it sets up some good oppurtunities. worked decent vs pyro at fc. basically it important for when u wanna switch yur moveset up. sometimes dk get a little predictable with airz, so take it to the ground.

Up-B from anywhere is v.good damage, and has large surprise factor a lot of the time. People just dont expect you to Up-B for no good reason! The initial strike, before he begins to spin, is strong and has KO potential at higher %'s. Hehe, DK's down B is quite good at rooting up constant dashers, rollers or grabbers. But as an attack, it bites if you slap more than once (two hits on ground), again, a good surprise weapon. It can alllllmost outrange Marth's tip, so that gives you a fair advantage in range already. Other than for disruption, the lag of the end is too great to be used to any great extent.

Down+B can be followed up by n-air if you only slap once at mid-high percents..

EDIT: Sorry, found out damage percentage has no effect, so scratch U-Air

DK's down b is also useful as a CCC

Edit: Not too long ago, i was against a lvl8 DK CPU on Kanto, and the CPU used the down b near the edge while I tried to recover and I was spiked. Ever since then, I've been trying to replicate the hand slap spike, but havn't had any luck. Anyone done this b4?

Where when & how did this happen? If this could be duplicated D.K would own, if you still go on smashboards dude, please elaborate.

Imagine- DK would be unbeatable- unless this kid was bull****ting

down b sends people upwards. the only way it could have "spiked" would have been if part of the other character was underneath the stage or something so in effect you hit the ceiling or some ****. not really a useable thing though.

What? down-b sends people up? what have I been thinking all this time?

No seriously, I know that, i'm just wondering if anyone else has expirienced this and how, cos there is a possibility of some glitchy stuff with the down B.
