GW Vs. Young Link

Young Link seemes to be a real problem for GW. I tried this match once and got owned.
The Main problem is the projectiles. You can't even get close to him. GW's apporchal game is bad enough already, but those projectiles make it impossible. And you can't defend against them either cause then He can quickly run in and shield stab you while you suffer from the stun of the projectiles.(Stupid small shield)

Well I don't really play against YL but more against link and I can tell you that once you know the matchup well, it isn't too hard.

If Y.Link start spamming projectiles wel just dodge or jump over !! if you dodge he won't really have time to run up to you and you can also catch bomb in the air with Z.

Also if you want to approach Y.Link well SHFFL nair is a **** good way cause he can't jump over and if he tries to shield grab well just superwavedash to grab and things will be alright.

OH and don't be afraid to jump of stage and put a **** parachute in his face cause his upB will just hit you and make you go up while he'll be doomed to fall so always go finish him even understage if you can.

Yeah, definaltely jump. If you can get just over his projectiles and get him while hes still recovering its a killer. I also use the sausages in an arial to cancel his attack and hit him a few extra times.

No johns! Just practice this match a lot.
Get good at lightshielding constantly and behaving appropriately from it.
I find most people dunno how to lightshield and therefore have a horrible time with G&W vs. Y. Link (whose nair goes through your normal shield).
Shorthop to not get grabbed out of downtilt. Use the superior range of fair and utilt combos whenever the opportunity arises. And most importantly, lightshield.
I used to think it was impossible too, but I got better at fighting Young Link, and now my G&W does well vs. Young Link even compared to most my other characters.

I just played the match last night against a pretty good young link (this guy's main is marth, which i recently raped with my GW). His Y Link destroyed me. The projectiles completely ruin GWs air game. It's impossible to space a fair when you keep getting boomerangs in the face. I didn't have trouble whenever he started being aggressive, the light shield does work wonders, I use it frequently. But as long as he sat there and spammed projectiles, it was really difficult to approach him. Turtledance kinda worked though. I have to work on this matchup.

I know. I 4 stocked one kid in a marth ditto but he 3 stocked me back in this matchup and his y link isn't even that good. It's just spam spam and if you can get in, he can run or smash or w/e while your still being bombarded. :dizzy:

Mih, just for you guys, when Azen picked Young Link on me, I picked Game and Watch just to make sure the matchup wasn't that bad. And really, it wasn't, match came down to the last stock, very close. I got a lot of damage from downthrow to stuff like WD utilt, early % chainthrowing to combo, lots of lightshielding, using dair/fair/WD-dtilt to eat through nonexplosives, maybe some more lightshielding. Good mindgames earn you grabs which earn you combos which could earn you free stocks of Y. Link if you get lucky (either by super-utilt-combo or by throw to fwdB). Patience and grabs and G&W stands a chance.

I'll admit that projectile camping might have worsened the gap, but if you have a lot of practice and do a lot of experiments against that kind of a tactic, you find that it's really not all that broken.

When im playnig agasit a YL with a GAW I always use my high priority attacks just to cancel out his projectile(as i do with other projectiles) you can really just tap A agaist most projectiles. And I'm pretty sure you can agasit YL f-B. also use the fair agasit him and try to keep a small fray.
