Because of that WiiConnect24 thingy, I think it could be possible that Nintendo could distribute new additional characters using WiFi.
Like, you could download a new character for Brawl, every year or something or when there's a special event or whatever. This would not only extend the lifetime of the game, but it would really make it a cool online feature for the title.

Kind of like Xbox Marketplace and where you can download other stuff for games.

So like, if they don't decide to add in other characters from 3rd parties, on launch, they could later on using using this download feature.

This is just my idea of course...

I think it'd be a lot to actually add an all new character to the game... I'm sure costumes and other suches like color scheme changes are a lot more likely... but adding a whole new character? That'd take some impressive programming prowess.

actually programming-wise, I dont think it would be that hard as long as the character system was extensible enough.

it's kind of like that old RTS game total annihilation, where cavedog released a new unit every week or so to complement the game.

(obviously my comparison is like oranges to a basketball because of the differing genres, but you know what i mean, [if you know what i'm talking about])
...
yeah... sorry if you don;t know what im talking about...

but what i mean is that i heard nintendo wanted to use wifi (or the virtual console) to distribute new original content, and maybe they could use it for this.

i'm sure it wouldn't be that hard to dynamically add more content to the game, like a new character, since other games do it so nicely already

Patches, costumes, items, and maybe even levels would work well. A new character would be difficult since it would defeat the purpose of a sequel for the predecessor of the Wii. Like I would rather just get X amount of characters and that's it until the 4th SSB. IDK it may be just me.

I said this in an earlier thread, no reason not to say it here as well: The chances of SSBB receiving updates via WiiConnect are very, very slim. The chances of receiving new characters is almost none. The development team for this game was assembled for this game only. Chances are, once they're done, they're going to dissolve and all go their own way, leaving no one to update the game.

Hate to dash hopes, just looking at it realistically.

Sakurai himself said it would be difficult to make four player online work. So more than likely any Wifi usage will be one on one battles. Item patches may be possible, but anything more complex then that probably won't be doable. I doubt even item patches would be implemented. Like it's been said, this team was put together solely for this game and once they're done, they'll go back to what they were doing before.

And since someone mentioned it, I wouldn't get my hopes up for a fourth Super Smash Bros. : (

i guess you're right, cos even after 4 years (5 ?maybe) after SSBMelee came out, people still play it now like the day they first bought it. especially with all that stuff you could unlock.

brawl looks like it will still have that same effect.
