Why is it that everytime somone suggests banjo and kazooie as Brawl characters somone always shoots the idea down and says that its impossible because of the whole rare/microsoft thing. The addition of Solid Snake to the game has shown that 3rd party characters are now possibilities. Miyamoto himself said in an interview "There are possibilities for other characters to appear in the game as well, and it's possible that there are corporate discussions going on now about what other characters may appear..." Rare still developes for Nintendo on the GBA and DS, and there is even a rumored banjo title being made for DS soon. With all that doesnt Banjo-Kazooie in Brawl seem plausible?

Ever since SSBM was announced, I have longed for Banjo and Kazooie to appear. The chance seems pretty slim, but I'm still hoping for their appearance. Banjo-Tooie was fun....

It does make them a lot more likely but there are still a lot of skeptics

Here's the way I see it:

Game characters that have had their game debut on a Nintendo console/game should all be eligible as characters for Brawl. That is why I have no problems with Snake being in the game. His first game was a Nintendo game. I would feel the same if Conker, Banjo, Kazooie, or Cloud (wasn't his first game on the (S)NES? [correct me if I'm wrong]).

True, Conker and Banjo/Kazooie were bought by Microsoft, BUT thier debut games were Nintendo console games, so I consider them perfect for the positions. Now, I don't want to see characters whose first games were on opposing consoles such as Master Chief or Sam Fisher. The only exception I have to that rule is the Sonic team, but I don't see it happening too soon.

Okay, people are confused, so I'll help clear up why B-K can't appear in SSB.

Nintendo has the rights to what Rare created(characters, locations, music, and items) for Starfox and for Donkey Kong. This was agreed upon when Nintendo and Rare went seperate ways. Everything you see in Starfox Adventures is Nintendo's, everything you see in the Donkey Kong series is ownev by Nintendo.

Microsoft owns Rare now, however, and therefor owns Banjo-Kazooie, Perfect Dark, and Conker.

Considering that there's supposed to be a Banjo-Kazooie game in the works for the 360, I doubt Microsoft would agree to letting Rare liscence the characters out to Nintendo.

Now, where people get confused is that Banjo and Conker appeared in Diddy Kong Racing. They appeared there due to Rare being the creators of the game. In the upcoming sequel/rerelease of the game for the Nintendo DS, Conker and Banjo are gone. Possibly the entire cast, except for Diddy Kong, will be unable to be featured. Why?

Nintendo owns Diddy Kong. Rare owns Banjo and Conker.

I wish Banjo could be in SSBB, too. But it's as likely as Master Chief appearing in it(Bungie is owned by Microsoft in the same way Rare is). It's not happening.

Because Rare is owned by a direct competitor (but some say Nintendo and MS are aiming to tag team against Sony be that just by what they say about eachother or sharing Rare more than MS currently does is yet to be seen) it's less likely to get any characters in SSBB. However it's not impossible and if Nintendo really wants it or if fans highly demand it they could probably work out a deal and I doubt MS will mind much. There hasn't even been a BK game on the Xbox or 360 nor is there anything annouced. So BK has been a Nintendo exclusive franchise. I wouldn't except Conker or Master Chief to be borrowed for SSBB but Banjo and Kazooie and even some of their friends probably could be in the game but it's VERY unlikely. That's why people shoot the idea down. Personally I think it'd be awesome. I really hope BK could be in the game but I'd settle for Rare making their own cross-franchise fighter or at least another BK game (or you know... ANYTHING worth playing).

Allowing Banjo-Kazooie into SSBB would be a brilliant move on Microsoft's part. The popularity of completely obscure characters like Ness and Marth and Roy skyrocketed when they were included in Smash. Having a character in Smash only boosts that character popularity. As such, I wouldn't be surprised even a little if Microsoft allowed, or even requested, for the duo to appear in Brawl.

That means that Diddy will probably be in Brawl. If Nintendo owns him, he'll probably be in it.

Banjo and Kazooie COULD be in SSBB, and they probably SHOULD be in SSBB, but I don't think Microsoft WOULD let them do it. I mean the ultimate decision would be up to them right? I'd see Rare being more than willing to let Banjo and Kazooie in, but Microsoft shooting them down. I'd still fight for them to be in it though. Banjo and Kazooie was a big part of the N64, and Smash Bros. has been about the important franchises that helped make Nintendo what it is today. (although the Wii version seems to have expanded that theme into videogaming in general). Banjo and Kazooie definitely meet the standards of being allowed to fight in Smash Bros., but at this point it seems like a snowball's chance in hell that they will be in it.

As much as I'd like to see them make it into SSBB Microsoft is an evil, soulless corporation, so their chances are slim.

Ya...despite most things, all four games featuring Banjo and Kazooie have been on a Nintendo system. The BK theme's cameo in Kameo is almost a dead giveaway that the main series isn't dead and another game is in the works and there is almost a 100% chance that it will hit the 360. Then again, Peter Moore's praise of the Wii and how BK was one of the iconic games of the N64 gives me hope. As well as the fact that Banjo and Kazooie are completely and utterly perfect for a game like this.

Echoing McFox and Devastlian, B-K in SSBB would be a great idea for Microsoft and Rare. Peter Moore suggested that consumers pick up a 360 and a Wii as opposed to a PS3. B-K's crossover onto Wii would be superb advertising for both of their parent companies. Rare and Microsoft would get a major mascot brought back into the limelight, and Nintendo fans would rejoice in nostalgia. I fully support B-K in SSBB (partially because the series was just that **** good). =)

Yeah... I loved the two games on the N64, and would be thrilled to see the duo appear. I have nothing to add about their unlikleness... everyone else took the words right out of my mouth. I'm pretty adamant about the fact that they won't appear, I just hope I'm wrong.

In short, Banjo-Kazooie's chances NOW are the same as sonic's chances were, a week ago.

I wish they were that open minded<_<. Now think about it, a move set that relates to the character would have to come about as well. NOT just the character, but yeah it'd be cool if Microsoft would act a bit more flexible.
