Mission Statement and Recruitment

Salutations, smashers. We are The Smash Affiliates, an up and coming East Coast crew!

We're not a strict, overly pretentious crew - as you can see, we're a really friendly and laid back group. And as a group, we all plan on becoming stronger players without losing that sense of fun we have in the game. You'll find us around mostly the northern NJ area, as well as part of the NYC scene as well. We also have branches at PA and NC, so if you live close to those areas, you're more than welcome to join!

As of now, the main branch open registration is closed. The reason for this is that we have a fair amount of members in our crew, and too many people have been signing up, then either never show up, or aren't who we are looking for. I apologize for any inconvenience and to anyone who might have wanted to join. Registration may open again in the future, so stay with us for any updates! Applicants who are currently on the pending list are still able to apply, but have the end of September to go through the application. Otherwise, we are forced to purge you from the list.

Instead, we now have special invitations. We are primarily looking for Peach players, but we may invite anyone to our liking. We're also looking for friendly, open minded people that just like to hang around and have fun. You don't even have to be extremely skilled at the game, though we do ask that you have atleast some good knowledge about the game itself, including advanced techniques and experience in tournaments. As you can see, we don't ask for much. The only real pre-requisites to joining TSA are knowing how to play the game and having a good sense of humor.

Of course, while we all like to hang around and even make fun of each other, we pride ourselves in learning more about the game itself and teaching each other the different ways of improving. Even if open registration is closed, we may have our eye on you. For better chances of joining, try and show us that you can be someone who can be part of the crew.

If someone gets a special invitation, they will receive it in the form of a private message. Please reply with another private message with the following information:


Tell us a little bit about yourself
Your primary and secondary characters
Why you want to join
A name of a previous crew, if applicable, that we can go to as a reference, as well as the reason why you left or were booted from the crew.

After the application, the crew members and I will go through it and have a discussion on if the applicant would make a good addition to our team. We also require that the applicants come to our crew meetings for evaluation, both in how well you can fit in with the members socially, (After all, we would want both you and the members to feel right at home and comfortable around each other) as well as a match with 3 of our members to gauge your skill. Don't worry - you don't have to win any of the matches at all. It's just a way for me to see how well you do in the game. Applicants will get an answer to the applications later that week.

Even if you do get specially invited, you may still be rejected. If we reject you, don't take it personally. We may feel that you don't fit in with our crew's sense of humor and friendship even if you are a good person, or, in honesty, you aren't yet skilled/knowledgeable enough about the game yet. To be quite frank, I don't want the crew wasting time teaching new recruits how to play the game. When you apply, we assume that you know how to play the characters you've chosen as your primaries, as well as playing the game on a competitive level, and we shouldn't have to teach you anything concerning the basics and common known advanced techniques. This is to ensure that we don't have to backtrack and we can all keep improving while being on similar levels of skill. But don't worry - I'll usually keep a record of everyone who applies, and if you can improve in the future, we may possibly invite you somewhere along the line.

If you do get recruited, you'll be in the crew for a trial basis of 2 months in the section of the roster called New Recruits,, where we further gauge your skill against our crew members and keep track of your ranking in tournaments. Try to be as active as you can by participating in tournaments, crew meetings, and adding discussion to any sort of business we have. But, for the most part, just enjoy being with us, because we usually just kick back and laugh the whole way through anything we do. After the 2 months, we'll change the roster a bit and see about where to place you. Most new recruits start off as an Alternate.

5/23/2006 - We have two new official recruits: Emblem Lord (though he's technically in our crew from the start) and Public Enemy No. 1 Also, with summer approaching, it's time to try and get all the members together in one spot and start organizing. . We'll figure things out in terms of who is or isn't in the actual active roster. It's time to get bigger and stronger! TSA 4 LIFE!

5/25/06 - Added locations for our members. Also, as Emblem Lord mentions, we might be meeting this Sunday. However, it's a bit short notice, so if you can't make it, that's fine. HBK, if you need a ride, I can give one to you.

We'll plan some more meetings in the summer as time goes on. We have some things to talk about. See you guys then.

6/01/06 - Just to make it official, we are going to have smash crew meetings every Sunday at 6:00 in Emblem Lord's house. By now, everyone who is in the crew should know where that is. People who need rides, please let me know. If you can't make it that week, let me know about that too. Otherwise, I would expect all of you to try and be there.

6/8/06 - I've decided to add a new section to the roster simply named "Pending." This lists those who have shown an interest in joining the crew, and will be evaluated at the next crew meeting. I wish the people who are in this list the best of luck, and I hope to be welcoming you in the crew soon!

7/14/06 - Should have been something I posted a week ago, but we came through with our first official crew battle against HRP! 6 on 6 crew battle with PE. 1 as our alternate, the stakes were $1 and having the members of the losing crew sign their names on the bill. We won with 7 stocks left, and our MVP for the battle is Cactuar, who held on through and wrecked through 2 of their members and knocked out 2 more stocks from his third opponent before finally losing! Be sure to congratulate him for doing a job well done! I've got the bill on me now and, yes, I'm planning on framing it. TSA is getting stronger and better! Let's keep kicking some ***!

7/30/06 - On KOTC July 29th, 10 members of TSA showed up, with Muz coming in late. The only missing member we had was Cactuar. We completely dominated that tournament, with the top four players being me, Emblem Lord, Sensei, and Raptor Hawk in that order, and the "TSA Leaders" team consisting of me and Emblem Lord taking first place in doubles. Hot IMO!

I'm also taking out Odin from our inactive list - he is now officially out of the crew.

8/20/06 - Smashtality was simply fantastic! We had over 53 people show up for singles, with the pot reaching $1,060 before the store's cut! Amazing!

Special congratulations to Team Rainbow, who consisted of Cactuar and WoZ, who took 5th and had the highest ranking team in the tournament from our crew. Also congratulations to Emblem Lord, Cactuar, and HBK who took 9th and are the top three in our crew for the tournament!

8/29/06 - We have a new second-in-command! Or is it two?

Muz has been elected as the new second-in-command/Team Captain of TSA! He's done so much for this crew, and Emblem Lord was happy to hand him the position. I say it was something well deserved!

I don't want to leave Mud out of it, though, as I imagine he had some part in helping Muz and the crew. Should I give it to both of them? My twin right hands. Amazing.

Finally, the biggest news of all is that we are closing the open registration for TSA, as we've gathered many members, and the ones who apply either never show up to the meetings, or don't meet the crew's needs at the moment. Instead, we have reverted to special invitations only until futher notice. Please check the Recruitment section for more details.

8/30/06 - Cactuar and Public Enemy #1 have been re-assigned on the roster as acting leaders of the branches they belong to. Pakmanoncrack has also been added under the PA Branch as second-in-command. TSA is getting bigger and badder.

9/10/06 - With the school year in place, we've decide to switch the meeting days with Sunday to Saturday. I know some of you are inconvienced by that, but when the majority of our members can meet and play. On days where there are tournaments being held, the meeting will happen after the tournament either at the venue itself, or wherever the agreed meeting place is. If no tournament, we all meet at 6 PM somewhere. With that in mind, let's kick some *** for the rest of the year as we prepare for SMASHTALITY 2.

We're going to be doing monthly tournaments at CCX called SMASHACRE. I've already talked about the T-shirts that we'll need to make with both our TSA designs and CCX's logo. We also need our players in TSA to train hard this month for FC. We still need a vehicle that can actually get us there, preferably a van.

10/23/2007 - We're going to be making some big changes with the crew. First off, we're adding Crew Benefits for the main branch, and other branches can follow in suit should they choose to. If you'd like to know what those benefits are, please come to the meetings when we have them for more details. I'll be adding a new section that keeps track of members who have been rewarded with these benefits, starting with Sensei (2) and Copycat (1). Congratulations!

We're also adding TSA NY with Heart Break Kid as its leader! We'll be adding some NY smashers soon, so if you live in NY and are interested, please get in contact with HBK!

Please check the updated list for people going to VLS! I'm sure we should have enough people for the ride, as well as the vehicles needed to get there.

5/07/08 - FINALLY updated the first post. Sort of.

I've made the changes to the roster as needed, but I still need the following information.

Mog, Slikvik, And Roykid - I need to know what your roster information is. It should include your locations as well as your primaries and secondaries. If you'd like to include profiles to Myspace or Facebook, please let me know. Pocky, I need to know where you live in California.

Secondly, I've added a new section under everyone's roster information: Brawl characters. I need to know what characters you are currently maining for Brawl. It should look something like this:

I know you've all seen Copycat before. He's in every tournament that I go to and the one I'm training with the most.

Emblem Lord's been inactive ever since he got himself a girlfriend. (How cute!!) He's coming back into the scene, and will probably have his girl join the crew too. (Hooray for girl smashers!)

Mud and Muz go to almost every KOTC out there and a few NJ tournaments. I'm sure you've seen them before: most modest set of twins I've ever met. I'm glad they're with us.

Heart Break Kid only started coming to tournaments only a few months ago, but he's already a beast! His first tournament was the March KOTC, and he's been on fire ever since!

Odin and Ghost have only been to a few tournaments, notably Inui's Princeton Tournaments and a few of the Gauntlets. They're not so much known right now, and won't be for awhile. Odin is currently wrapped up with Yu-Gi-Oh tournaments while Ghost just doesn't have time for tournaments since it messes up with his work schedule.

Public Enemy No. 1 is our newest recruit and has never been to a tournament, but don't let that fool you. He's a good and uprising Captain Falcon that can shock and surprise you. Be sure to see him at the June 3rd KOTC.

And finally, there's me. I suck, even though I've been playing in the competitive scene since late 2003/2004. I retired from 2004-2005, and recently came back by entering the Gauntlet last October. I've been highly active ever since in our area, so I doubt you've never seen me before if you've ever been to a KOTC or Gauntlet.

Ok Andrew. Just a few details for you so you can update the main page. But before I get into that I need to clear something up.

First of all lets set the record straight about why I was "inactive". The reason for this was because I had lost my passion for smash. I wasn't feeling the game anymore. I just stopped caring as much. I didn't feel like I was improving or that I had gotten any better at the game since I had started playing competitively. Then my ex-girlfriend came back into my life and that pretty much disrupted my whole life. I stopped going to class altogether. Stopped going to tournies. I only wanted to be with her again. So when we did get back together I put all my energy into the relationship. But because of that my grades took a serious *** raping. So now things have calmed down a little more and I' have decided that having a girlfriend is great but I also want to get back into hangin with my friends, doing well in school and doing what I love.

But it wasn't until a couple of weeks ago when Public Enemy No.1 came over my house for some practice that I got my passion back. I guess I just got so wrapped up into getting better that I forgot why I fell in love with smash in the first place. I love tournies because I get to meet up with old friends and make new ones. I love this game for the opportunities it gives me to connect with others and the environment it provides. Playing with Public Enemy No.1 reminded me of what its like to play with an old friend. So now Emblem Lord is back. And I'm not gonna rest until I have attained my dream. To be the best Marth in Jersey!!! So ummm..yah. Rant over.

Alright back to those details. Ok, Public Enemy No.1's primary characters are both CF and Marth.
Secondly I have not left THS. Although I have not informed Zanguzen the leader of THS of my decision to join TSA, I'm still loyal to THS. I'm a member of both THS and TSA.
Further more if THS and TSA ever have a crew battle and I'm sure they will then I will not participate. I will reiterate. If THS and TSA ever have a crew battle I will not participate. I consider both crews as a part of my family and I WILL NOT side with one to battle the other.

Yes my gf will be joining the crew. But only after a few months time. She says she wants to get her skills up to an adequate level before hitting the competitive scene.

Woz if you want the crew to get together we can do it this Sunday at my house like around 6 maybe. I'll be back from work by then and I doubt the other crew members will be busy. But you should talk to the others to confirm this.

I made 2nd place in the May 27th Nintendo World tournament and now they tell me I'm headed for the Finals in Rockerfeller Center with those big 50 ft tvs.

And I used ZELDA. That's right. I had to fight through killerfleet and Sockninja to get there. Bum took me down in the finals.

Ok, about the meeting at my house today. I have two t.v's so we need one more for 3 set-ups. I'm thinking Copycat could bring his or Muz and his bro could bring one. Either or is fine. Next issue is that we need two more gamecubes. I suggest that everyone coming to my place should bring thier cube and a copy of smash. That way if somebody forgets then we still have the two others. Alright thats all. Woz I'm pretty much counting on you to get the word out on this because you frequent this thread more then the rest of us it seems. But I'll call Copycat and Woz to confirm. From the looks of things there will be 6 of us so with 3 set-ups there will be no waiting.

Ok guys. Awesome crew meeting. We had alot of good matches and a chance for some great practice. And thanks to all my fellow members that contributed to our meeting by bringing a t.v, or a cube or both. You should have been there HBK. Oh well. There's always next time. Speaking of which, I was thinking that we could have a weekly crew meeting/smashfest at my house every Sunday starting at 6:00 pm. We really came together for this meeting. I figure we can do it like we did this time. Everyone brings either a t.v or a cube or both. We set-up downstairs. Order some food and just have a good time while discussing the business of our crew, up coming tournies, and such.

And now I have a better idea of how to set up the cords so we shouldn't have any future interupptions with set-ups. Still for our first crew meeting I think this one went great. So I'm gonna ask that my other crew members post thier thoughts about this idea and what they feel about our first meeting.
