Dance Smash Revival

This tournament has been cancelled. See my post below.

When: June 17, 2006
Where: Sierra Vista Mall; 1050 Shaw Ave, Clovis
Lead tournament organizer: Will Dorsch
Tournament officials: Jason Santos, Glenn Cravens
Cost: $10 per person
Start time: noon; you can be there as early as 11 a.m. to pre-register and do friendlies
Events: DDR (4th and Extreme) and Melee singles

Yes, I know that this is the same week as a possible NorCal biweekly, there's no way the date is changing. This is a good opportunity for some to head to the valley and compete against others. There should be a lot of competitors since Fresno hasn't had a big tournament in a while (if ever). I would even suggest the peeps to move the 6/17 bi-weekly to another date and help support this if possible.

For anyone going, WE NEED HELP WITH GCs AND TVs. ANY HELP WOULD BE APPRECIATED. I'm bringing 2 TVs and 2 GCs, but of course that won't be enough.

Rules: MLG

4 stock
8 minutes
No items

Brackets are double elimination
As with any double elimination tournament, the finalist in the losers bracket must beat the finalist in the winners bracket twice to win the tournament.

Friends will be separated as far as possible in the winners bracket. If you meet up in the losers bracket, well, don't lose.

Preliminary matches are best of 3. When there are four players remaining (2 in winners bracket, 2 in losers bracket), matches are best of 5.

Prizes
(Top 3 to my knowledge also get a Best Buy gift card)
1st: 56%
2nd: 28%
3rd: 14%

The percentage doesn't add to 100 because the TO will use some of the fees to pay for the insurance, which will allow us to have the tournament. So thank the man when you see him.

ShadowCloud, TDog, and myself will more than likely make this. Looks like a good MLG LA practice tournament. What are the chances of us getting a teams tournament going as well? Would be nice...

Clovis is right next door for me; so myself and ThEpEsT will most likely be there as well. I also might be able to bring a cube, so we'll see.

I wish I could go, but my girlfriend's graduation is on the 17th.

Ziv: Doubtful for teams. It's just time constraints. By the time the DDR tournament is over, I'm almost certain the mall peeps want us in the final 4 or something near then. Also, I don't want to be there all day, since we have to make the long drive there.

Clovis is north east of Fresno. About 20 min. away or so... Anyways, you better believe me and Starr will be there. I'll be there for sure... and I may be able to bring a small T.V. and a GC as well.

Due to June 3rd being the final NorCal biweekly, this shouldn't clash with any biweeklies. :)

Guys, unfortunately, the melee competition has been cancelled.

From the TO...

The mall event coordinator called me today and asked if I was charging an entry fee for the Smash tournament. I told her I was. She then said we couldn't have the tournament because the mall has a policy against public events that charge money for admission. The only way we could do the tournament is if it was free entry and no cash or cash-value prizes were given out. Yes, it sucks, but those are the rules.

I call this the "gambling clause." Many places I've asked to host tournaments have used the aformentioned reasoning as to why they can't have a tournament. They're still having the DDR competition, but that's in jeopardy as well because of this clause.

Sorry to get all of your hopes up. I was really believing this was going to pull 70-80 players.

Direct your hate mail to Sierra Vista Mall.

um...its a videogame tournament you can do that **** "under the table". just go outside to collect the entry fee. or make it free but charge a dollar for a napkin. and napkins let you enter the tournament....

We salvaged a side competition by having MKDS. Because that can be run inside the arcade (when there's no room to set up 4 tvs in the arcade). So if you're into mkds, please come on by.
