i frequently play against a friend that uses samus and marth, and although Ice Climbers are my favorite, it's just not as fun to play against those characters. i get raped. anyone have some tips on how to beat these characters?

I always play against a samus also and it depends a lot of the stage we play, I prefered one with platforms, this way I have some "safe zone" against the constant missiles. (I know the iceblocks can cancel the missiles, but sometimes they're just too many)
Another thing is to never roll to her, she has the priority and will always hit you. Other than that is to stay away from her aerial kicks as much as you can.
Well this is what I'm always aware of, I guess you should be more specific in order to give you a good advice. Hope this help you.

Characters that can out range and out prioritize the climbers can be pretty rough match ups... ala Samus and Marth.

The best luck I've had against a missile happy samus was abusing their missile lag. Now a good Samus player is going to be cancelling the missile animation regularly, but that's still a pretty good window to close in, since samus has to go airborn to do it. Abuse her lag, basically, and don't just 'hang out' in melee range, she'll out ground combo you because samus seems to follow up from jabs faster then the climbers can... and with better range.

Marth... this fight is all uphill. A good marth will be on you faster then flies on a picnic, and there's not a whole lot you can do about it except... be prepared. Unlike samus, a solid marth will have virtually no lag spots unless he botches a cancel or completely misses a smash... You'll probably have to fight him similar to jigglypuff, at least at first. Harass with ice blocks from afar, desync ice breath to interupt a move and go for a combo if you're timing is sharp... but mostly, widdle him down until you get an opening for a good hit.

Samus and Marth can be KO'd off the top at about 85-95% (depends on stage) by a good grab, desynch nana to a charged up smash, then follow up about a second later. If you do it right, the entire KO grab should be wrapped up in less then 3 seconds, which should be ample time before they can escape. This tends to be much more reliable if you score a grab (good luck) then smacking them off the side. Both of them have a nasty habbit of living.

I do pretty okay against both of them, but I find Samus easier. Just spam iceblocks and you'll do surprisingly well against the missiles. Marth is tricky but if you play defensively and wavesmash to punish his fsmashes you can probably beat him pretty easily.

My worse oppenent is samus by far. Spamming her missiles, I just can't get away from it. So I use ness against her:P But I will try some of the tips you guys gave.

most of the time, an experienced marth player won't fall to desynch tricks, especially if he plays defensively. there's not a lot you can do against the fair and bair, their range is just way too long. i'd say be as evasive and accurate as you can. if you miss something, you'll get combo'd or separated from nana. marth's defensive and offensive abilities are way too good for ice climber tricks, and he's even hard to chain grab if he DI's correctly. it's possible to beat him, but marth clearly has the advantage.

best way for an IC player to counter marth? pick another character, lol.
