Ok everyone, here's what you've all been waiting for, we're finally opening up the registration (http://www.nexgaming.net/entryform.htm) for Team Nexus's first tournament! Here is all of the information that you need to know about what exactly is going to happen.

The tournament is going to be held on July 29, 2006. It's going to start at 11:00 A.M., but we will be letting people in as early as 10 to warm up and to get ready to play. The address is: 2993 N. Cottonwood. Orange, CA, it's right by where the 91 and 55 freeways intersect. You can Mapquest (http://www.mapquest.com) it.

The entry fee is going to be $15.00 at the door, and of course you don't have to pay - if you're just a spectator.

The prizes are going to be as follows:

1st Place - A brand new Nintendo DS Lite, and a specially made gold medal
2nd Place - $25 gift certificate to Game Crazy and a silver medal
3rd Place - A bronze medal

RULES:

MATCHES
- 1v1
- Best 2 out of 3
- 4 stock
- 8-minute limit
- No items
- For the first match, there will be a blind pick for the characters (both players will let the judge know who they will be playing with before the match begins. This way, someone can't choose a counter-character for the first round).
- In a set of three, after the first match the first loser will first let the winner know what stage they want to play on for the second round. After that, the winner can choose their character, and then the loser can choose their character. If the score becomes 1-1, than the winner of the first game gets those same advantages (being able to pick the stage and character last).
-Any unneccesary pausing of the game will result in a forefeit of that match.

STAGES
- Final Destination (of course)
- Battlefield
- Kirby's Dreamland
- Fountain of Dreams
- Kento Pokemon Stadium.
- Yoshi's Story
- Stages will be chosen at random for the first match unless both players can agree on a stage before the match begins.

OVERALL TOURNAMENT
- Double elimination (which means there will be a winners and a losers bracket)
- The final match will be the winner of the winners bracket vs the winner of the losers bracket.
- Because the winner of the winners bracket worked a little harder to get so far, in the finals match, the winner of the losers bracket will have to beat the winner of the winners bracket two times (in order to make up for the loss that they got earlier in the tournament). We think that this is the most fair way to do it.
- Also, everyone PLEASE BRING YOUR OWN CONTROLLER! We'll provide everything else, the gamecubes, the T.V.'s, the memory cards, and everything else. Again, BRING YOUR OWN CONTROLLERS! Also, only standard gamecube controllers will be allowed, basically this means no mods. We'll inspect your controller at the door when you come in.

We will also be selling food, drinks, candy/snack food, t-shirts (hopefully if we can get them made in time), and FREE PENS!

So there you have it, registration is open, so please register (http://www.nexgaming.net/entryform.htm) as soon as you can so that we have an idea of how many people are going to come. Thank you all for your participation and good luck to everyone! I look forward to seeing you all there!

I'm not entirely too sure on how much tourny experience you have with running SSBM tournaments, but it always helps to get someone who is good in smash to help represent and assist you guys, that wa you get more publicity.

And just for notice, $15 for a DS lite isn't entirely too appealing compared to tournaments where you pay 5 or 10 dollars and win a pot of 300+ dollars. Those are usually the above average tournaments. On average the reward is about 120 for a 5 dollar entry.

You should also try attracting a larger crowd by having a doubles tournament as well.

Make that entry money.

a 1v1 tournament and only a 1v1 usually attracts a tiny crowd just to let you know.

Also, for the record, you always should consider 2nd prize to be about a 30%-35% value of first prize and 3rd to be a 10% value of it. Lack of a good 2nd and 3rd prize will also turn away entries because they already know who would be guarnteed first.

I'm not saying I'll run the tournament, I'm just giving suggestions. If you'd care to hear about any more, feel free to IM me after 7:00 pm.

This week might be a difficulty week for me because I am going to be practicing with my crew all week for MLG.

Lol, someone hasnt read about Team Nexus on their site XD

Edit: Well, the prize necessarily doesnt have to have a cash prize. The Ipod tournament did well, didnt it?

But Stop, if you ARE trying to attract large amounts of people, a cash prize and doubles tournament are a must.

The Ipod tournament had a turn out of 11 people. With the small amount of people they actually NEEDED to hold a doubles tournament which they actually asked me to help them with. I'm not saying cash is a must, you just need to corilate your entree fee with the total of the prize.

People make 10 dollar entry or 15 dollar entry because they fear profit loss. In truth, the more money you charge, the more people you scare away.

Look at the tournament I'm holding a week before this. For 5 dollars more, people are provided with food and drinks and a chance of winning anywhere between 300-1000 dollars (depending on number of entries.) It really needs to be people friendly when it comes to cash because most of these people are full time students.

My original going price for one day @ my tournament was 30 dollars. People were telling me that it's too much, even tho I said that Attendees for 2 days get in for 40 dollars.

And to Zenith, You live in SoCal. Your chances of DSF, Ken, Edrees, Trevyn, Tavo, Myself or anyone in my crew, HugS, Aesis, etc. showing up to a tournament is usually pretty high. You're gonna get at least one of them, to show up because they know they can beat the competition. It's a sad truth but SoCal is one of the best regions in the world.

Your best bet to go in a tournament without seeing any of them is to go out of state.

Oh, are you the girl I saw in the picture on the website?

Well, Panda's right and trust me, Panda has ran a**loads of tournaments and is still doin it.
So his advice is kinda usefull.

What's the deal with the medals?

Panda: Well your right about that, especially since I'm workin on my own tourneys at my house.
I like having something fun to do at my house and I love tourneys, so I wish someday i can run one here.

Aren't you the guy who "wanted" a medal?
What do you mean "what's the deal"?

PandaX

lol keep the medals. Oh btw, to help you guys out. You can ask for donation for the venue. You will get generous people a lot of times. Pretty much, give the people their money's worth and they'll be happy and come back for more. I think that is pretty much the most important part of it. As long as you have people feel like they got their money's worth, then they would be satisfied and come back for more next time. That will also start talk to their friends to show up etc.

Sweet Zenith. I'd actually be interested in showing up to you tournament when you start running them.

I want medals so that I can ask people to hold them for me as if i need to free my hands for something.

But really, I just want them to hold it so that they can realize that it's my medal they are holding and that I won. That'd be awesome

I try do that with prize money, but people end up trying to keep it.

That sounds like a really good idea. I love playing Doubles almost as much as singles.

Sweet Zenith. I'd actually be interested in showing up to you tournament when you start running them.

Quick question, WHICH THREAD ARE WE USING?

Teh "Smash tournament in OC"
or
"Smash Royale"?

I plan to start my tourneys after my family reunion and after I get my CPU fixed.
Then my litt;e bro needs to keep his room clean.

We can fit 8 tv's in here.:
2 in my room
2 in my bro's room (barely)
Maybe 4 in our living room (but it'll be packed)

I wanna start off with smashfests and get the hang of controlling a crowd of smashers.

My mom wishes dreams one day to have her own arcade, but we're financially in a gap.
In about 2 years I doubt we'll be in this house and I'll be dead and homeless.

I'm just hopin I can have some fun til then.

Yea don't worry about food Zenith. If u read the tournament page then you'd see that there is gonna be food. :psycho:

For those wondering if the tourney will be going smoothly, don't bother worrying. I'll be helping Team Nexus run the tourney. For those that came to the Moreno Valley Garage Tourney then you'll know i can run both doubles and singles brackets pretty efficiently.

This will be the first installment in a series of smash tourneys so come out to this and show some support.

Any puff players wanna team? Ditto puffs in doubles OWN!

Same applies for Luigi players.
