Falco vs. Doc

Falco is my main character and unfortunately my brother plays Dr. Mario exclusively so I have a lot of experience playing against Doc. Let me tell you that Doc is by far the best Falco counter in the entire game..........its like he was designed to rape Falco in almost all respects.

First Doc's pills are an absolute nightmare for Falco: They've got great range, stopping power, can be spammed endlessly on the ground or in the air, can be bounced off of walls, etc. Doc's pills stop my "Firefox" recovery, can stop my Phantasm, block a dash kick, slow a shffl'd aerial, and are a general pain in the ***. Because they bounce up and down diagonally, they can often hit Falco in the middle of a dashing SH setting up for a shffl.

Second is Doc's cape: Any Fox or Falco will learn to absolutely hate Doc's cape. A good Doc can easily cape a Firefox and many smash attacks and turn the tide of the fight by starting a combo or caping Fox/Falco off the map. Of course the cape can also be used like the shine to reflect projectiles, so SHL against Doc doesn't work as well as you'd think as he eventually starts caping them back.

Third is Doc's CG: Luckily my brother hasn't mastered this yet..........but obviously a Doc who knows how to CG will destroy Falco easily if he gets grabbed. Poor old Falco can't CG and once he's off the stage, its an uphill battle to get back on.

Finally there's Doc's dash slide kick and his Smashes: Let me tell you from experience, Doc's d-smash is very irritating for Falco because of its excellent range and knockback. I rush Doc with a shffld air and he shields it and immedialtely goes into a C-stick d-smash. And if Doc can land an f-smash on Falco with 60-70%, he's pretty much dead. As for the slide kick...........for some reason it can get through my shield sometimes and always neutralizes my own dash kick, which Doc then follows up on with a u-tilt into a combo. I think its also somewhat more difficult to shine combo a Doc for some reason.

I've been practicing much more than my brother and fights with his Doc vs. my Falco are usually frighteningly close. I've learned to never underestimate a good Dr. Mario..............maybe he should even be higher up on the tier list.

Although Dr. Mario can be troublesome. I don't think he counters Falco. Doc has some things to use against Falco as listed, but Falco's pillars and spike shine combos destroy Doc. Falco has no problem edgeguard/hogging Doc. Doc has CG but that won't destroy Falco like other characters like Peach and Marth. And the pills are just something you have to learn how to avoid, just like Falco's lasers.

I think it's a lot more difficult to avoid Doc's pills because he can jump and throw a pill and land and throw another and then there's a wall of pills coming at you along with Doc not far behind trying to capitalize on a potential pill hit. And then if you bother to reflect the pills, you're stuck in the reflect lag and Doc has time to rush and attack.

I agree its quite easy to edgeguard/hog Doc because of his awful recovery and Falco's smashes and sex kicks but thats pretty much the only thing I can think of where Falco isn't at a noticeable disadvantage.

I think it might be harder to spike shine and pillar Doc because his arm is always way out in front of his body which often makes me try to shine him when I'm not close enough.

I wish somebody would post some Doc vs. Falco vids............thats a pretty good matchup.

You dont need to reflect pills though you can sex kick through them.

doc is a pain but he doesn't counter falco. Falco can attack right through the pills and you can maneuver around the pills.

My friend spams pills alot and usually shoots pill, then uses his fair and when I use reflector i end up getting punched in my face. sometimes i just take the pill and then dodge his fair and use a shffled dair. This usually works but sometimes it sucks...

try to dodge the pills, try to SHL him while hes plling and shine pillar him in sick combos :chuckle:
