quik pillaring questions?

true. but u should also note that pillaring is done to a shield to grind it away and the lag after hitting the shield with ur d-air is different and requires different timing for ur l-cancel. practice it by putting stars on and an empty human player. have him grab a star and start pillaring away. this simulates hitting someones shield. good luck

This is basically true, but not all pillar combos are not like this, for example falco vs fox or falco ditto you will have to learn waveshining(GREAT technique) due to the fact that the fox or falco will DI out of the pillar and simply jumping out of the shine won't due it, and you'll have to follow with a waveshine pillar combo to continue the combo. Don't get frustrated while practicing the waveshine, IMO fox's is much easier to learn due to the lack of lag in fox's jump, but falco has a bit more lag in his jump and his wavedash is more delayed.

yes, you can speak of pillaring shields and of pillar combos, anyway usually people speak of pillar simply to mean Dair + shine. Good explaining though.

As far as I'm concerned (in compliance with the guide):

Pillaring = shffld-dairing to shinecancelled shffld-dair on shield (and repeat) in order to eat away the shield or to lure the opponent into a shieldgrab in which case the shine connects
Shine to Spike combo: repeatedly shine -> shinecancelled dair (longjumped or shorthopped) to repeat to combo the opponent.
Waveshine combos: Combos involving waveshines, obviously.

Stars are Starmans, the items that give one invincivility.

(BTW just knowing and being able to pillar on a shield with the Starman on is not enough, you need to consider NOT starting the dair too early (because the lag on the shield is so much you could get grabbed) and you should WATCH for the dair to land then LCancel, not just by feeling, because different placings on shield means different timing for the LCancel. The difference is likely insignificant, but might make you screw up every once in a while.) But first just practice the regular pillar :P

i completely agree nice addition about where u hit the shield and the appropriate timing, completely forgot. and no, i do not believe i have played u before. i was not at ATM3. but i will be at SAVII this weekend, if ur around atlanta u should show. then maybe we could have a falco ditto :chuckle:

oh, well, no, I live in europe :P (holland, actually), at ATM3 (my crew's tourneys) i played this english falco player JAM5. since a Z and a 5 are somewhat alike i was wondering :P

thanks guys for the help and not just call me a n00b! well i can wave shine and wave dash and all that other good stuff i just have really bad timing with l cancel, its the only thing i cant master. ive only been using falco for 2 weeks, but ive been playing intensly. any other tips with pillaring or L canceling?
