Hey, everyone. I'm planning on using Ice Climbers at a tourney on Friday. If anyone could give me tips it would be greatly appreciated.

Match 1 (http://files.filefront.com/Nintendude1189_Ice_Climbers_vs/;5199326;;/fileinfo.html)
Match 2 (http://files.filefront.com/Nintendude1189_Ice_Climbers_v2/;5199329;;/fileinfo.html)
Match 3 (http://files.filefront.com/Nintendude1189_Ice_Climbers_v3/;5199337;;/fileinfo.html)
Match 4 (http://files.filefront.com/Nintendude1189_Ice_Climbers_v4/;5199339;;/fileinfo.html)
Match 5 (http://files.filefront.com/Nintendude1189_Ice_Climbers_v5/;5199349;;/fileinfo.html)

The first one has a few tape glitches/minor skips but I don't think it is a big problem.

Hoo... well... I dunno what to say, really. You seem to have a great handle on the Icys.

I personally do a lot more back airs and blizzards. It's my firm belief that Blizzard is to the Climbers as Shine is to Fox.

Your Icys are good. If you plan on takig them to a tourney though, and if you want more advice, best to put up matches that aren't just against Dr. Mario. For Icys to win a tournament, you must master your toughest and/or trickiest match-ups, which are, in my humble opinion, Peach, Marth, Samus, Luigi, and Ganon. Fox can be strange too if he shines a lot (and gimps Nana) and goes for the grab-upthrow-uair combo.

You do need just general practice, as I noticed some mis-timings of attacks (particularly the down-throw to upsmash), and maybe abusing your opponent's tendency to come down with an attack, so just work on mind-games (which you'll be doing the rest of your smash career). You don't seem to be spaming desynchs, so like Chudat, you rely more on wavesmashes, shuffling, dodging with wavedashes, and you also need to notice opportunities and openings really well. With this, work on back-airing as mentioned above, and faking-out your opponent. Watch out for the common Ice Climber mistakes such as using up-B when Nana is dead (but the stage blocks site of her), failing to wavedash onto the stage from the ledge, etc.

Down-throw to upsmash works on Doc even with one Climber, but you have to be quick, and you have to watch his DI. And getting caught by the charge attack from Doc shouldn't be happening that much. Shield-wavedash can help prevent this I'm guessing, although I usually just shield grab the mofo.

For now, this is all I have. I was thinking about disecting each video, but that would make this post even more long-winded.

Thanks for all the tips, Hozart! I'm sorry that they are all against a crappy Doc, but that's really the best competition I have around here

As for the bad matchups, I'm going to stay away from Ice Climbers for them unless the opponent is really bad. I'm also pretty proficient with many other characters, so I'll have many options to choose from.

I'll definately consider everything else you said and work on it extensively before the tournament. I usually don't miss grab combos quite as often as I did in that video, but I still miss them enough that it needs work.

I want to watch them but it says I need to buy winzip or something before I can download it. Is there a way to convert it to a wmv, youtube, or google? Im trying to get better with the ic's too :).

i'm not sure why you would need winzip. The files aren't zipped at all. I'll upload a couple on google video anyway :)

?? why should they wavedash more, I only saw the google videos but the wavedashing was fine.

You should work on playing with one ice climber, You can really work on that cause everybody will try to take your nana away. To bad you didn't desynched a lot.
I like Desynch spamming Ice climbers more then wavedash downsmashing ones, but that's just me.

What kind of de-synchs can I do? There are various things with de-synching Ice Shot to make Popo and Nana alternate, but that never really gets anywhere except stall the match. De-synch blizzards seem to be easily avoided too.

You say the desynchs are easily avoided, but the point of them are to force your opponent to avoid them and you take advantage of the fact that they did so or the fact that they didn't. A problem with desynches, is that if you're only good with the roll and side step desynch, they prove to be too slow and eventually predictable, and thus becoming less of an asset. In my experience, it's best to use them sparingly enough to keep them unpredictable (don't throw out a blizzard after every roll for example), and only against certain characters, for instance, a Peach player who floats at the right height can't be hit by the blizzard, and may come down with a float-cancelled d-air/b-air downsmashed. The solution to this is to master all the desynches, or just to desynch smart, or rarely. Either way, you'll do fine. Just if you go desynch happy, be sure to know all of them.
