and for the first shoutout I recieve, it s "bob - beard". I feel so honored.
FC6 was real fun, though it had a few bad moments. Met Scarecrow, teamed with him for friendlies, completely dominated one TV for an hour. Teamed with the doug in actual teams, didn't do terribly bad (at least we made it out of the first pool even if we got crushed in the second one). Beat Kel 3-0 to win the last slot in the gamers guild team, which through a comedy of errors recieved the 3rd place crew prize (effing falcons, TA, effing falcons!). Whoever that one Louisiana smasher was who was with cyphus who had that amazing young link that beat mine, congrats, you were the first one to win that ditto since Azen at TG6 (though chu ended up matching that later).
Singles... first pool lost to Trail (wtf, 0 to death grab combos? This ain't SSB64!), beat yuna and jesi (new candidate for top female smasher) in close sets, got the 2 seed. Second pool... lost the first set to... wait for it... KEL, getting out-camped on corneria for the loss. I blame the 5 minute turnip-pulling dry spell, but no johns, nice job Kel, way to get your revenge. Lost to DA dave (too good!), beat 3 people including cactaur (time out on corneria FTW!). Had an impressive young link duel with Chu Dat that ended with chu pulling the 100%+ damage last life kill both times.
Then the problem occurred. I'm 3-3, probably going to be 3-4 (vocal's next). cactaur is 3-2, yet to face DA dave and chu. Chu, knowing that he will go on regardless, says he's tired of playing and that he's forfeiting his last match, essientially knocking me out to give the win to someone who I'd beaten. Well, I ended up pulling the win over vocal, putting him in the situation I was going to be in... and as a result cactaur goes on and vocal, who beat cactuar and would have had the same record had chu not given cactaur the win, gets eliminated. I'm sorry, but I don't care what his intention was, chu just ****ed over vocal royally and lost all of the respect I had for him. Seeing something like that happen... and hearing that something similar happened in another pool to AOB... I'm sorry, but that's just disgusting. No one should get an advantage based on playing a good player last, because he won't care. I'll say it again: That's ****ing bull****.
Lessee... rest of the tournament... had some fun in SSB64. got a first round loss to the guy who I think eventually won the thing, and lost to pyro in losers after a few rounds... dang broken pika. Poker... gptta love tripling up off of pocket aces while iggy moans about folding his 3 4 offsuit...though d33k, what were you thinking that last hand man? I bet two bucks and you call with a gutshot straight draw? Ah well, you took the money, so who am I to say you were wrong?
I played like crap in my 3rd pool. No johns, but no ifs ands or buts I played like crap. I honestly feel like I should have beat at least 3 of the people who beat me, but that's what I get for staying up until 6 or 7 AM. The one silver lining was pulling the win over prime with my young link, though I had to switch for his counter stage. Square, I'm coming for you next time - you're the only ship member left that I haven't beat in a tourney situation... get well and bring it on.
after tourney stuff was fun. did well in mario kart 64 (1v1 battle took me 6 rounds to finally lose a baloon, free for all not quite so well)... did well in bomberman 64 (finally had a loss after about 10 sets... dang field of grass)... watched a bit of finals. Got kinda annoyed again knowing that the top 4 had agreed to just split the money evenly, turning the most exciting rounds into a game of "who gives a ****." I know for a fact vidjo wasn't trying his hardest that second set against PC... its a far cry from "barely winning 3-2" to "absolutely getting my *** handed to me." Oh, and vidjo decided not to ride home with me, but with someone else... for one reason - "they won't charge me the 10 dollard for gas" AFTER HE WON $1380 IN THE EFFING TOURNAMENT. Vidjo, you're a cheap *******.
But despite a few sour moments, great tourney and nice seeing everyone there, and can't wait for the next one. I can hardly begin to do shoutouts since I played so many matches and so many people that its all blurred together... you're all awesome. thank you and goodnight.
*EDIT* lost losers bracket of ssb64 to pyro, not vocal. change made.

I would have attended this event if my dad would have let me go , but he said it was to far away and I couldn't go unless my bro went with me...which he wouldn't... He doesn't like smash so I was screwed on the ordeal. I would have been riding with Rob Gambino since he was offering a free ride there and back.
Hopefully I can make the next FC and find out wat its all about(Getting owned).

Shrug. Whoever convinced PC to give up his share of the money is an amazing negotiator, since he's really the only one who lost money out of the deal, and he lost a good chunk. It's not up to us what people do with the money, but when it affects matches, it is disappointing. Nevertheless, there's still not much we can do, and I don't think the agreement was reached until near the end of the tournament.
Xelic and Fast, we'll see you at Chicago and give you your prizes there.

Throwing matches ruins people's time at the event as well as doesn't truly show player skill level by advancing the incorrect person. The Ship tried to stop this but unfortunately it happened too late. If I was a pool captain there would definiately be some disqualifications.
KishPrime
07-20-2006, 02:31 PM
As far as I know, the pool captain system was 99% effective, and there were only two known instances of problems. AOB's situation was not actually affected by the throwing of matches in question, it was discovered later. Vocal's elimination was unfortunate to both himself and Cactuar, as Cactuar himself was robbed of a legitimate match with Chu. The thing is, unless there is some massive conspiracy, if you win your matches you will advance. Vocal was a good enough guy to recognize this, that if he hadn't lost a set against a lower seeded player he would've made it through anyway because he beat Cactuar head-to-head.
Will the problem ever be completely solved? No. But I think we got about as close as we could, and the pool captains should be complimented for their volunteer efforts. We will crack down on this harder next year, assuredly.
I'll include this text with my general evaluation/shoutouts later, as I think it is necessary to address.
wow camper bob is a whiny little *****, stfu
u know what makes this game not fun, gay camping
cuz we all know that camping is the true test of someone's skill in smash
and if u don't like the top 4 splitting money why don't u try making it into the top 4 and do something about it. midwest sounds like a bunch of females

That is an ironic statement
x1372
07-20-2006, 03:11 PM
no, hova, WINNING should be the true test of someone's smash skills, regardless of the tactics they use. Don't like my in game tactics? Tough ****, tourney matches are about wins, not fun. You won't see me camping often in a fun match unless a) my opponent is coming straight for me making it mostly irrelevant or b) my opponent is testing some way to break it. Just FYI, I camped a grand total of THREE singles matches in this tourney, and lost while doing it twice. I'm known as one of the few smashers WILLING to camp, even if its actually a rare occasion.
Splitting the money takes the point out of the finals. When there's nothing on the line, what's to stop players from joking through the matches? I don't know about the rest, but vidjo was "invited" into the split pool right before PC and chu did their fight in losers. I also know that vidjo only plays his best when there's somethign on the line - I'm probably the person with the single most experience playing matches with him the last 2 years. I can tell when he's trying his hardest, and it didn't look like that was the case at all in his losers finals match.
I love this game. The one thing I can't stand is when factors outside the game itself change the results. Seeing vocal eliminated that way, and seeing all the relevance taken out of the last 3 matchups is going to upset me.
And prime, I greatly appreciate all the work you guys did to make sure things were as fair as possible. If the AOB thing didn't end up mattering, that means that there was one sore spot based on pool stuff like that in the entire tournament. I'm sorry if me making a big deal about that shows the one real problem at FC6.
And Hova or anyone else who wants to direct personal attacks my way? I've got a PM box. No reason to cause further problems in this thread.

you know what i hate when ppl complain about what other ppl do with THEIR money
and per se Andy
07-20-2006, 05:31 PM
'tis not about the money, charles.
splitzies in a BIG tourny like this is gay big c. most people obviously know that they arn't going to win, but they go for the experience, fun times, and awesome matches. with people splitting the top 4 spots, the palyers jus dont try as hard no matter what you say. ive done this before, i would know. but whatever, whats done is done and nothings going to change it now.
BIG C
07-20-2006, 05:53 PM
but it's their money it might be gay but its their money they can do whatever they want with it plus splitting is always gay to some ppl cuz they come to see the finals. to me i could care less i would be tired of playing if i made it that far and would be quite happy if sum1 offered a split.

If people ever want Smash to be taken seriously in terms of pro-gaming, there can not be splitzies. If top 4 split, they're not competing for the awards they're given, simply they're guranteed a certain amount.
If MLG isn't your thing, then that's cool. But honestly... it's not that big of a deal.

Just look at vod. Alot of people payed $25.00 bucks to see the best competition. When i saw the finals between chu and ken, i was dissapointed. People travel to tournies with big name players attending them for a reason.....to see BIG NAME PLAYERS play. How would you feel if you traveled from the east coast to the oc2 and watch ken and cj play low tier characters because they decided to split? I would be upset quite frankly. Imagine pc chris and ken played low tier characters at anaheim with that huge crowd, i can imagine alot of booing.
EDIT: Just my opinion, not trying to get at anyone.

I like watching and playing low tier matches. >_>;

if anything if i knew we were all gunna get the same amount of money why did i try my hardest to win, drephen we take the fun out of the game cuz we played with no money on the line? sorry if this game is only fun when u have money on the line then ur playing for the wrong reasons people who dont win tournaments often wouldent understand this concept so i can see why theres an outrage
GG owned harder then i did m2k in the finals

Even if pros played friendlies, i would love to see them play their best. i could careless about money. I know you tried your best chris. That wasn't intended towards you. that was a general statement. I know you play your hardest and i admire that.

Rofl that'd be jokes, he was sandbagging and still ripped them. PC just owned M2K so hardcore hahah, beautiful.
Anyone who watched some of the PC/Vidjo, PC/Chu and PC/M2K matches that Omni posted would see that even if they were messing around, the matches were still insane to watch and some of the most entertaining matches EVER. So anyone complaining about how splitting the money turned it gay, you're retarded. Watch the matches, drool and shut the **** up.

I was sitting next to M2K during his matches in the brackets that day. He was scared of PC Chris like crazy and kept going "I can never beat him" and "he rapes me too hard" and sh!t. :( He needs more confidence.
He managed to win for real on Mute City though! Haha go M2K! I'm glad I reminded him he's good there earlier that day. x_x
**** camper bob, my bad man. i really wasn't trying to insult u directly but rather the majority of the whiny, campy midwest
ur one of three smashers willing to camp??? ****, i don't kno if anyone has called the midwest style campy before but it definitely is, well at least compared to the general style of east coast
i mean vidjo and m2k were like the campiest team i've ever seen, and vidjo is just like 85% camp from what i've seen
uuuummmm...............
i thought i had a point, anyway yeah the final couple of matches were pretty **** amazing imo(save for the camping peach) and i do believe pc chris and m2k were actually doing their best, cuz i doubt m2k wants to keep splitting money with pc so he wants to figure out how to beat him, and u can't just rape m2k that hard while going easy
blah blah blah, yeah i mean camping and extremely gay level choice are a strategic aspect of smash, but really doesn't involve pure skill. skill+strategy= win
but strategy-skill= really gay boring matches
disclaimer: darkrain is fukin amazing mos def
yo drephen, how much sex did u get this past week? ( yo they bleep ***** and ******, that's gay )
haha, now go read what pc wrote like ten times and try to let it sink in
woops..ignore this post.

Haha @ Cyphus being drunk on Lee's account. It was fun hanging out with you and Lee for a little while before we left on the bus. You guys are cool as hell, we will have to come to a tourney in Louisianna sometime.

Liek, my rank is a few spots better! I r teh leet!
</sarcasm>
Vocal, you have my sympathy, but not an apology. I enjoyed my matches with you. I was going to PM this to the following individual, but it needs to be addressed publicly. Camper Bob, you were fine until you started talking. You were nothing but disrespectful and offensive towards me while I was dealing with the situation. You can post as intelligently as you want on the forums, but if all you can do in real life is devolve into a whiney brat, the smash community would be better off without your input. I had fun playing you, regardless of your style of play. I would like to apologize for the actions I took in silencing you, and thank you for informing me on how some of the things in pools worked.
I do agree that certain things shouldn't be allowed. Players who wish to forfeit a match could just sandbag through a set, so preventing them from doing so is somewhat pointless. More action should be taken in preventing players in a pool from having access to score sheets, and Camper Bob's actions after learning that he might not have been moving on from that pool is a perfect example of why. His behavior and attitude when addressing myself and the pool captain (trail i think) was out of line. You say you have no respect for Chu after forfeitting one match. 1: Why would he care about what you think of him. 2: Acting like a child destroyed the very little positive image I had of you prior to that happening.
I like that we have top players who are willing to split prize money. We, as a whole, are one of the nicer groups of gamers, and that does reflect it. You act like the top 4 just plan it out to sandbag through their matches because they don't care. The reality is that they were scared of each other, so they give themselves an insurance policy. The game is what matters, not the money, as PC said earlier. If all you care about is how they split the money, you shouldn't be playing the game.
This is in no way meant to be disrespectful to anyone. I had a great time at FC6, gg to everyone I played, both in smash and torpedoball (caveman - I want a rematch >.<).
