Aesir, there are mindgames in all fighters.

It's actually a legit term. It's just that the smash community at large doesn't know how to apply the concept to their gameplay and they just toss the word around without truly understanding it.

agreed. mindgames is the art of invoking unpredictability upon your opponent. in most cases, its usually subtle dashdancing. any yes any character can do it which is why it doesnt relate to the tier system

1. i dont use "mindgames" anyway and i think its pretty stupid terminology for a fighting game
2. i glad someone else out there had respect for DK. but i think yoshi is a bit higher. he can combo fast-fallers and floaty characters alike. the tongue is a good slow-dwon techique if youre accurate. eggs are a great range attack to keep falcon at bay. and all his aerials are actually pretty sexy.

hahah oh im definitely aware of that and those skilled mofos. DK is my 2nd main to fox. but yoshi can abuse the range, has a faster spike, a longer wavedash and less lag. DK also cant combo slow fallers all that well or easily, sheik being an exception (although sheik is like a semi-slow faller, and destroys DK anyways). i have pulled off a 5-hit aerial combo as DK on a samus in final destination but if wasnt easy

There are more good Mario players doing good in tournaments than there are good Kirby players doing good in tournaments. That's why Kirby is so low and Mario is so high.

aint that the truth. unfortunately just cuz characters look better when they transfer to a newer console, doesnt mean they are better. i dont feel kirby has enough potential in melee. especially since most of his standard A attacks got nerfed from SSB64

thats because you dont have as many options in other fighting games as you do in smash.

mindgames do exist tho, basically jus messin wit someones head and makin them do things to your advantage

ex. run, wavedash backwards, opponent atks, u punish.

Young Link can be scary. I think Yoshi should be right next to him, though. Who goes at the very bottom? I've seen a scary Mewtwo, Bowser, and Pichu player, but I agree with Randizzle - Kirby just sucks. I think Taj argued that Mewtwo has some very convincing death combos... While Bowser has a pretty mean edgeguarding game, he just doesn't have any combos that don't involve techchasing or edgeguarding. I haven't seen much of godly Pichu recently, so I can't say much on what might make it better or worse than the other bottom tier candidates.

At FC Diamond Gimpyfish was complaining that they should've at least given Pichu some redeeming qualities as a joke character when he learned that practically Pichu's everything, including recovery, hurt itself. That was when the Pichu player grabbed and started doing the grab attack to be funny.

Ok i changed it a LITTLE: Kirby is the worst, add ANY Kirby pro they willl agree, ask anyone for that matter and most people that know about the game will agree with me about kirby..
G&W has to many things wrong with his defense to be good, but i will put Yoshi above Roy and Zelda, not above Ness

GW doesn't have anything wrong with his defense, he has something wrong with his shield, that's different. GWs defense rests in his aerials and down tilt and grab game silly. Having decent aerials, however, doesn't change the fact that he gets raped by most every other character anyway.

im curious to know what makes ness good. i watched the SickNess video and wasnt impressed. back in the day my former smash crew had 4-player VS ness battles as a joke and i usually came out on top though

G&W's defense is just fine. His shield, spot dodge, and roll are not. There is a difference...

EDIT: Hooray for Brookman, someone who's actually good at explaining things. And I didn't even see his post but said the same thing. Glad someone else understands. However, IMO the only characters who "rape" G&W are Peach and Marth. Yoshi can also be difficult but not as bad as the other two.

i think sheik too. as for the other top tiers, falco and fox may have a harder time against G&W but theyll still come out on top. keep in mind im talking about character in general and not individual instances of pro players ive seen of heard about

I used to think Sheik too but it's pretty easy to adjust to Sheik. You're right, I should post more general instead of my own preference. I find Fox/Falco to be pretty easy but that doesn't mean G&W has the advantage over them. But Fox really doesn't have anything special vs G&W besides the usual superior speed and vertical kills. Fox isn't the best horizontal killer, so G&W is a little safer. Falco's harder for G&W than Fox though.

perfect example right there, 56k. that fox is zelgadis so you know he doesnt suck. and on G&Ws 2nd life he royally screwed up twice and still held his own. regardless of that fact that there were mindgames in that video, it still shows G&Ws potential to stir up trouble with fox. i dont believe G&W would win at all but i dont think he'll be defeated as bad like he would with marth or peach
