dumb question on recovery

Well, this has never bothered me before, but yesterday i tried to drop down from the ledge on FD, and after I hit down to drop, tap jump once then up+b, sometimes i end up backwards and don't grab the ledge on FD. I'm wondering why taht is, I'm pretty sure i'm pressing directly up and not hitting left or right any so i'm not sure why sometimes i end up not grabbing the ledge, while other times i do. Is my controller broke? or am i missing something obvious?

This happens to me also and when it does I just try to kick enough *** to make up for that lost stock....... well I geuss that didnt answer your question at all sorry you could PM me later and Ill have found it out. k?

well, unless you get spiked it's not an issue usually, but even so i'm rather annoyed, if you're exactly below the ledge it should be easy to recover. Especially if you're setting it up by dropping off to specifically have an easy time..Perhaps the ledge can't be grabbed from too close? Maybe i need to push away a little and grab from farther. i'll try it out later today

Allow me to explain - When you firefox upwards, if Fox happens to TOUCH the ledge, it will turn him around. Once you're turned around, after a certain amount of frames, Fox CANNOT grab the ledge. But if Fox comes within range of the ledge before these frames are up, Fox will be able to grab it. Let's call these frames Ledge Frames. The problem you described can only occur due to one reason. This reason is, when you firefox up, the ledge turns you around, but before you come within ledge grab range again, the Ledge Frames finish, so you miss the ledge and fall to your death. Get it?

This problem is easily fixed. To avoid missing the ledge, you can do any one of the following:

- When you firefox, make sure you don't TOUCH the ledge on your way up. So when you are beneath the ledge, draw a straight line from Fox to the sky. If this line touches the ledge, your firefox will get turned around. If the line does not, you are safe, you can firefox straight up.

- Try to end up closer (vertically) to the ledge when you firefox. In other words, firefox from a lower point, so when the ledge turns you around, you'll fall back to the ledge before the Ledge Frames are up, and Fox will grab the ledge.

or just firefox into the stage at an angle. he should follow the stage and the stage should lead him straight onto the ledge. and personally, i think it looks a lot cooler.

When you go above the ledge and get turned around, if you don't think you'll be able to grab the ledge once you start descending, just move toward the stage. At the least, you should land near the very end of the stage, but the problem is that in that brief moment, you're left vulnerable. Use this in case of emergency, but try what Dalal & shinefox suggested. Also, when you drop, just as you were thinking, get in the habit of tilting away from the stage slightly before you firefox to prevent turn-arounds.

If you just did at straight up FF, DI or hold the joystick towards the stage and you´ll land on it.
