View Full Version : L-cancelled down-drill to rest

I have rarely used this because it is often affected by DI, but I might have stumbled onto one way to make this work. On some of the taller characters, most notably Marth, hitting his toe with the very first attack of the drill can sometimes lead to a guaranteed rest. I don't see any use for it in-match though, as you'll never get that close and low on someone good.
Does anyone have any guaranteed techniques for the down-drill? I know about flip-rests, but I have yet to figure out when they cause a flip and when they don't other than a greater chance exists at high % than low. I suspect half of the drill attacks have one knockback and the other half have another.

Shrug. I'm trying a lot of new rest tricks lately, and you'd be surprised how often you learn a new trick from a random player who has been doing it forever.
EDIT: On a side note, I think I'm going to catalog every rest combo I know of, just so that people can laugh at me for all of them I miss.

I'm not to sure how much that works Kish and honestly I haven't tried it much. But on a intersting note as far as rest combos go I've been recently experimenting with down throw to a short hop rest. It's not really easy to get to work ever time but I have gotten it to work on a couple of foxes and other characters. Have you or anybody tried that before?

I'm not an avid Jiggly user but I was playing Jiggly for fun and tried downthrow to dash or shorthop rest and it works reasonably well. The problem is that anybody good will tech the downthrow easily and if you go for the rest you're a sitting duck when you miss........so I don't think its practical.
i find that resting is a highly situational thing. The L-cancel'd drill to rest can work, but you HAVE to see if your opponent is in the right place, otherwise, well.....i'll just let you finish the rest.

Perhaps a use would be to full jump into somone who is on a platform above you.
Additionally, if you're already on top of them, can't you just rest them anyway?
sigh...well kish IMO, Im assuming, SHFFLADA rest wouldnt be the best thing since you have other methods such as SHFFLAUA, uptilt, rest. Since the oppponent can DI out of your dair so then you rest leaving yourself wide open. What you could do is Dair on an incoming fox or falco using their up B then if you think theyre going to rise above the platform Fsmash them or something like that. Dair isnt the most used but its good such as to SH off the ledge and Uair on your way up so you land behind them in addition I dont think you have to worry about lag.

Shrug. I agree. It's mostly useless.
As for dthrow to rest, DI affects the combo, but it can be done. Most fox players don't know to DI it. It also works against Sheik. I did it against the International Crew at FC6.
yeah it does work against sheik hehehe I 3 stocked a sheik in a FFA after everybody was out except us two I owned him =3

But if the Sheik DIs right it's doesn't work. :( Only works on n00bs.
Some random throw tricks when you get thrown. If you are at 0-10% and get grabbed and dthrown by Sheik, you can rest her if she jumps into you. You can also rest Fox after an uthrow if they are too slow to start their uairs. The most common one is for a Falcon to mistime his followup from a dthrow and that will get you a rest quite often. Those rely on mistakes from opponents though.

Thats funny... cause I Dthrow'ed-->Uair'ed-->Rest'ed Husband's Shiek+Kirbstir's+Mild's ^_^
As for uses of Dair.. i usually only use it the same way you can use Falco's Dair (SH'ing over their shield, and doing a Dair slowing depleting their shield in the process)... it's also not a bad edgeguard... Resting with the Dair.. i find it utterly sexy, and yet unrealiable.

You shouldn't even need the uair. I'm trying to think if the uair makes it guaranteed or if it just helps extend the % it works at. Shrug, I don't know. If you've found a way to make it guaranteed please tell me. Husband would probably not even know the right DI, a Jigglypuff would never dthrow his Marth.
Yes dair to rest...I find it sexy...Ill call it the stewie...

good advice on the shiek downthrowing you and then resting when she comes up to hit you.

yet uve tried it on me and it never works ;)
husband and kirbstir dont play sheik, while mild just started playing this game since like 2 years ago ;p
You could try doing the d-air at the start of a short hop, then resting right at the end of the attack.

well- against marth.... you can pound rest easily at low percentages. This is sooo much easier than D-throw resting marth..
sorry im like a page late...

Yeah, the only way I've pulled it off was starting the d-air at the bigging of a sh and catching the rest just before hitting the ground form the d-air.
But only once, and I think it was accidental on their part walking into it more than anything else. :)
