when u get shffl down because i just started using fox like a couple days ago
so today i play him use him aginist my friend so i try to shffl down a to shine and he had his sheild and he grab me before i could do down b .
So does the grab go before the shine because a grab quicker or should i have got my down b quicker cuz i think i didnt shffl right
i get grabbed when i shuffl-shine with fox too. i guess it can be grabable before the shine =/
either that, or i'm doing it wrong every time he grabs me, but i doubt that because i get it right practically every other time

i think it just down a it take a while but not that long when u hit them with the sheild up because your trying to fast fall and l cancel all in on motion
Yeah you can get shield grabbed out of a drillshine but its much harder to grab you because they need to land the grab right after the drill and before the shine. Its also extremely hard if you L-cancel perfectly, and easier to grab a Fox if they L-cancel a bit late or early.
i thought if you L-canceled, you L-canceled. who told you about the L-canceling early/late thing?

Your transitions into shines are probably to slow. A grab before your shine shouldn't be happening, shffling against a shield might be causing you too miss your l-cancels due too the slight lag that occurs from it. Practice your shffls against sheilds and tell us what happens.
maybe i'm not pressing down b fast enough, because i know that i L-cancel correctly

Did he grab you while you were in the air, or when you hit the ground? If he grabbed you when you hit the ground, you need to practice getting the shine out as soon as you land the shffl. If he grabbed you in the air, you need work on your shffl.
The only variables in a shffl are:
- The time it takes for you to aerial in the shorthop
- The time it takes in the shorthop before you fastfall
Any other factors are either insignificant or cannot be changed. What you should work on primarily is the time it takes for you to fastfall. The best and fastest shffl is one where the fastfall takes place RIGHT after you start falling. So when you reach the peak of your jump, get ready to press Down+L. You must fastfall as early as possible. It'll help you to not get grabbed. If you ARE fastfalling early enough, then, although unlikely, you're pulling the aerial out way too late, just before you start falling. You need to aerial RIGHT when you shorthop.

but i dont short hop when i do it really i do a full jump as soon as i reach the peak i keep holding down and keep press the l cancel and let the down a which is use by the c stick do the work
Well when you L-cancel, if you do it perfectly there is almost no lag whatsoever but for every fraction of a second you hold L too long or press it too early, your shield is more likely to come out which makes it possible to get grabbed. When people first start learning to SHFFL its so easy to accidentally hold L too long and bring your shield out.
I should've said perfect SHFFL like Dalal said instead of perfect L-cancel because you can do a sloppy shorthop aerial thats L-cancelled but with a bad fastfall or where you did the aerial too fast or too slow.

You may also encounter a bit of lag when you hit the shield of the opponent that can screw up your L-cancel and lead to a shield grab. This can be overcome with careful timing.
