So i was just playing some matches one day against my friend's falco. like most falcos he uses the shl alot and likes to go in the for the shl smash kill. I decided to try and dish back the same medicine to him so i shl and up smashed him for the kill.
it took awhile but then it hit me... why dont any pros use this move? I kno technically there are better moves to do but I've been practicing with it and its pretty fast. shfflzing(short hop fast fall lazering) it will make fox not shoot the lazer but will speed it up soo much more. Its a pretty nice move. who else otehr than fox and falco have the ability to essential L cancel into smashes?? the best situation ive found for it is to reverse shfllz over a jab or d-tilt so that ur behind them when u up smash. it surprises ppl alot because no one expects to see a fox jump into a smash attack. a QUICK upsmash too. Anyways, my question is:

1) do pros use this move and ive just never noticed?

oh and if no one has actually named this move then ITS MINE TO NAME. but plz tell me if someone ha already "discovered" it :)

The SHL applies to both Fox and Falco, however it is used primarily as a way to keep moving during a match when you're not attacking your opponent (for Fox). For Falco, the SHL is an essential part of game.

SHL'ing into an Up smash is useless with Fox, as the SHL doesn't do anything at all. It would be easier to simply run up to the opponent and U-smash them right there. Falco's laser actually stuns the opponent, that's why it's so easy for your friend to SHL right up to you and smack you in the face.

Yeah, it's pretty much useless. Sorry, sir.

k, kinda figured so tho it is fun to do. ahh well, maybe itll be a surprise move.
so you think it has no worth such as being able to punish a person's d tilt without having to dash dance grab/wavedash back and then punish/etc.?

It's useless with fox because his laser doesn't stun like falco's.

its not really useless because you can spam it, and a fool using falco could use the shine to deflect it back at you, and if he does that, he has a few frames of stun and the laser wont stun you so you have an advantage, and its fast, although if you can use SHDL (Short Hop Double Laser) against some tall characters it could be really useful, but it doesnt have the same use as falco's.

if you're a stock ahead of them, it's timed, and they put up their reflector, you can spam laser (without jumping) until time runs out for insta-win

otherwise fox's laser is just to piss 'em off

Fox's laser is a move that is to be spammed only to get your opponent to have to make the first move. If he doesn't have a projectile, he is forced to go on the offensive. Short hopping it just makes it so that you are instantly ready for attacks from your opponent.

The move is useless for reasons already mentioned. Just run to your opponent and JC Upsmash. Or even just Short Hop to Upsmash, why is the Laser needed....2%? And rather than reverse SHLing to avoid a dtilt/jab, why wouldnt you just full jump to avoid the hit, than land with an Nair/Uair.

Seems like a lot of work for something that really isn't going to be very effective.

falco laser= stun
fox laser= spam

how do falco approach tactics apply to fox ><.... jc upsmash waveshine upsmash whatever you wanna do but why on god's green earth would you shl into and upsmash.... i dont think I've ever seen a fox approach with his shl... lest you get smash in the face yourself since it doesn't protect you at all.
