Shiek help :(

Recently I picked up SSMB again after a long time and began playing Link. Today my school hosted a tournament and the Shiek players came out of the wood work, as far as the proverbial eye could see. I got handedly beaten by a Shiek in the first round as well as the second round. Any pointers or links of where to go would be fantastic :) .

Note: I have been playing for about two months solid getting myself back in the game, I haven't mastered wavedashing yet and my L canceling is almost perfect, I am trying out new things every day tyring to get my Link up to par with my school mates.

I think it has a shiek matchup in it.

against a shiek u should always try to keep her away from you, use lots of projectiles and shieldgrab, you cant let shiek to chaingrab you.

One thing that I read was to keep the Sheiks at a distance with my projectiles then as she comes in then charge her. One of the biggest problems I had was getting ruthlessly juggled. I tried to get out of them but sometimes they were just too much. Any ideas on how to get out of the juggles when I have no bomb handy and I've burned my second jump?

Neutral A won't work against Sheik's long legs. so your only choice really (considering you have no time for a bomb) is just Down A. if you mid-air dodge downards to avoid the hit, Sheik will defitnitely land and set you up for some juggling before you have the chance to say, "$%*#".

Tips against Sheik:

1. always stay near the edge of the stage
2. DI away from her moves
3. use alot of jabs( A A A sequence) for spacing
4. learn to use projectiles properly
5. have a bomb out as much as you can
6. learn to shield grab properly
7. if you can grab her, throw down and either tech chase and grab, or Utilt->Bair->Reverse grab
8. try to get her above you then shffl Uairs on her
9. make sure you master wavedashing and L-canceling

I have a question about this last post. for number 7 when you grab, do you throw them down and do uptilt? because when i play against my friend he Di's out of the down air every time. also how do you reverse grab.

chase and grab him if he DIs out of the uptilt, if he trys to hit you insted of moving with DI shieldgrab him, or you can use upthrow and Bair( try to cancel it correctly everytime with L) so you can follow up with another Bair.

I have a question about this last post. for number 7 when you grab, do you throw them down and do uptilt? because when i play against my friend he Di's out of the down air every time. also how do you reverse grab.


1. when you grab, down throw then Utilt. they can DI out of it but if you catch them you can get into some combos.

2. to do the reverese grab:
- SHFFL a Bair on the opponent
- When you L-Cancel the shffl, keep holding towards your opponent and throw out your Hookshot

I think eventually when I play in tourneys, I will play link against every character against sheik. I honestly do not feel he has any unfair matchups except for sheik. I have a friend that is insane with falco, and he beats me because he is better not because it really is an unfair matchup. he 3 stocked me, anyways. 5 minutes later. I played this dude that played sheik,and he 3 stocked me. But he got 3 stocked by the dude that play falco and 3 stocked me. My point is, I know people that pick up sheik, or aren't much better than me, but whoop me because it isn't a fair matchup. The dude chaingrabbed me so many times. Another problem was I didn't di right but thats besides the point. I think I will play link vs everyone but sheik. And if someone plays sheik I'll pick Ic's which counter sheik to piss off the sheik player. Or perhaps, I won't and I'll just get better and better with link, and figure out anti- sheik strategies.

the only anti shiek stradegy Link has is edgehog to ledge hopped to D-Air while she aims for the stage...but even so it isnt that much reliable to iinsure u the match other then that u might have a chance by counterpicking in onnett town but shiek can still rape Link there =P
