Well, I don't know about you, but I have played link since the first smash bros. and I love his loz series, and I always thought it was cool how he screamed when he uses his sword and I always used him in melee too. I'm not going to sit here and try to persuade you to pick link. And I'm not going to sit here with the tier arguement and tell you why not to pick link. I feel that out of any of those nintendo characters, link most represents me, some reason, I can't explain it. But Link best fits my style of play. When I start going to tourneys (when I get good). I will use link. Now I think the question that I am going to answer which is closely related to your question is...Why am I going to use link in tournaments? Well first off, I think link is a good character, and I play best with him. Now I have tried other characters such as sheik, falco, and doc, and fox, even marth. I'll tell you my take on those characters...Sheik is a noob character, seriously, all you have to do is do those tilts, and you've got yourself a decent fight against a great opponent. Falco, I do not dislike falco, I feel if I put time into him, I could become good with him, but I'd rather not for the following reasons. How many good falco players are out there? Too many. I would just be another good falco player, and I doubt I'd be one of the best falcos. There are a couple of great link players but not enough. I want to show links potential. I personally think he is underrated and there is yet to be a player that shows links full potential. And the other characters, they just don't fit my style of play. I want to go out there and have people be like, **** I didn't know link was capable of that, thats pretty cool, maybe I should pick up link. Perhaps it'll start a trend of people jumping on link who knows. Regardless of all that, link is my best char, ylink is my 2nd best, falco is my 3rd. I'm gonna rep link in tourneys. im out.
Plus who else has an insane sex kick as versatile as links? Links sex kick has very high priority(quote from 8000's guide). And in my own experience, I have gotten insane kills, because I jump off the stage when my opponent is trying to return and I land a sex kick and it ruins them. Link goes beyond edgeguarding and edgehogging, he jumps off the stage and kicks you in the face. "don't mess wth link punk" =)

hehehe i agree with you 178%! there not that much good Link, there a lot of ppl that are good with shiek, fox, falco and marth. Thers only a few really good Link players, i think Link is one of the best character in the game 0.o you never know...

I wasn't going to say that but you already said it for me so I guess it's been said. Yeah in my opinion, link is one of the best characters in the game. I have my reasons but thats besides the point. I used to play competitive checkers and I become one of the best youth players in the u.s. I often picked moves that people considered were "ok" or "weak" but somehow I won the game anyways, because I knew how to back up the move and follow up with it. Reason I did that was because, all of the moves that were considered "strong", everyone knew how to play against it. So this relates back to melee, who cares if people think link is "ok" or "weak" if you play an insane game with him, does it really matter? Lol. And if people aren't used to playing really good links it might throw them off.

LOL that happend to me before, they thought Link was Sh**, but when i showed them they were amazed, it happend to me enough times the one i could remember was in my friends party he thought Link sucks he made fun of Link and he was usin Fox. Link vs. Fox wouldn't Fox win? he told me that Links weaknest was Fox and when i dont him to play he did and he lost, i donno why ppl think LINK sucks space animals BALLZ!

We should meet up and compete in a tourney together with link! thatd be cool. Too bad i live in fla =(. Anyhow, I'll explain to you an example of something I disagree with and I can back it up and play it strong. Ok, you know the forward tilt move? The one that in hdl's guide is rated 3/10? Yeah it's said to suck. Do I agree? Noooo. you see when someone makes an opinon on something, they have to know that "something" in and out. Anyways, I once played a lvl 9 link, and i was coming down with a move, and all of a sudden, even thought I was above him, his forward tilt, outprioritized my move, and send me shooting backwards. I was like whoa. This move, is better than 3 out of a scale of 10. it hsould be more like 6 or 7 at least. it works in a lot of situations. It can stop falco from above you and shoot him backwards. and its an insane edgeguarding move too.

0o0o0 in florida, lolz ive been there last year, and yea HDL guide the Foward tilt i use tht move everyday and it make me win! thats like way better than Up + B for edgeguardin well not really but that tilt is the best lol and i would say that would be one of the best tilt that Link has.

anyways back to the topic, so just play with who you want to play with, what style fits you best, Just think of the persons face at a tournament when you beat them with link instead of some overrated space animal. :laugh: They'll be like but. but. but. link sucks, and you could be like does that matter? No. :chuckle:

Link is fine in tournies. Link can hold his own against every character (except a shiek who knows what they are doing). Fox and falco are uphill (not that bad against falco, smash DI and powershielding ruin his combos) but aside from that Link does fairly well against everybody. He isn't far outmatched by any other characters and isn't a character many people are used to fighting.

He isn't the best character in the game, but he isn't bad. Don't be afraid to use him in a tourny, but don't expect to win, especially if you go all Link.

I pretyy much agree with everything you said, and that's the mindset I had. It's kinda like this, well first off I am not great or anything yet. But I plan on going to tourneys, I don't plan on getting first or anything. but I figure if i go to a tourney with 50 people and I get 20th, if i practice and get better, next time I will do better than 20th, maybe I'll go up to 19th maybe even better. And eventually I will make my way up and up. But yeah for right now, I just plan on getting tourney experience, and learning how the tourney scene is like. Btw, I have a friend thats played in an mlg and he plays with falco, and hes real good, I'll eventually get some vids up of me vs him. (I need critiquing, he's insane).

well, I can try and do it asap. but I don't know if I can get it by tommorow I do not know. Thing is my friend chevy is the one that knows this kid owen that does the video taping, so I gotta find a time which is conveniant for all 3 of us, which isn't easy because I don't know how to contact the kid owen, and my friend chevys phone isnt working, so I gotta wait until, I see him against at this place we play smash. Anyways, I'm pretty sure ill have it up within the next 2 weeks. (theres alot of stuff going on in south fla, including chance of a hurricane.)

use Link as a main. use C Falcon, Fox, Sanus, Mario, or Jiggs as a secondary. u beat me with all of them lol and ur good with most of them

i play EC...there is no chance in hell...even if you are the best player in the world to win a torney going all link...so i second fox...=)EC is waayyy too good...and usually at every tornament there is KM,Chillin, AZEN, Chu Dat, and TA...you have no chance...even if you ARE GERM, ANiki or HDL...the best ricky (Considered one of the best, if not the best) got recently at a torney was 5th which is amazing considering the level of competition....

like i said before...i like link, but i like winning more....

There really isnt a reason to use or not use Link in tournies... that goes for every other character... use who ever u want... just make sure u have a counter pick character and preferably a highter tier >=l

what a retarded question lol I didn't read other posts but i'll just say my opinion, of course Link should be used if you main him and he's your best bet at winning certain match ups then duuur, but he is kinda tourny qualified like he's a pretty bad character but if played in the right hands(me of course) he can be tourny playable LOL <3 everyone

I think is a very good thing having a secodary for tournys when you use Link.. like cp was a secondary hehehe
