ive been playing smash with fox with my friends and trying to do some of the kickass shine stuff they do in a couple of videos ive seen
but i cant seem to get any in. whenever i dair, shine and jump they just shield and then follow my jump. should i just dair right through them again?
and whenever i try to shine spike their recovery move goes right through me. is my timing just off? or am i shine spiking at the wrong times?
also i tried waveshining but they get knocked back too far for me to waveshine efficiently. Should i do it against a wall? because i was fairly sure you could do it without a wall. or is it only on specific characters?
btw, i read the shining guide but it just confused me even more...
also if anyone could provide a link to or the actual updated tier list itself id appreciate it greatly. thanks.

*Chuckles*
Shielding through a shine after a connected Dair means you're not L-cancelling properly.
You should be able to spike any recovery. Failure to do so means you're mistiming it.
And yes, the waveshine IS only on certain characters.

Wenbobular, what about Yoshi and the other few characters with unorthodox second jumps? You can't shine spike them in the middle of their recovery jump. I'm sure you knew that though. Just clarifying for Ja_Ov.
Anyway, Ja_Ov, like Wenbobular said, you need to make sure you are fastfalling as well as l-canceling. If you do not, then the opponent gets a chance to shield in between. Practice shffling dairs across Final Destination and you'll get the hang of it soon enough.

There are certain methods you should use when shine-spiking opponents with damaging recovery moves. One of these methods is to use invincibility from the ledge. It works like this - when you see the opponent recovering, wavedash backwards into an edgehanging position. Right when you hang, you'll be invincible for half a second. You need to drop down and shine spike them before this half a second is up. Sometimes, you won't have to drop. If you time your backwards wavedash so that you reach the ledge just before the opponent does, you can just do a shine without dropping down. Okay, now, let's say you are in a position that doesn't allow you to use invincibility from the ledge. Now you have to jump out and shine them BEFORE they use their recovery move. Otherwise, you have to have EXCELLENT timing to interrupt their recovery move, which will just come with practice. However, keep in mind that the BACK of Fox's shine has more range, so you should be facing AWAY from the opponent when shine-spiking them. You have more of a chance of hitting them. Apart from that, there's no other tips I can think of for shine-spiking.

Does the character get knocked down? For example, try shining a Falco, he'll get knocked down, in which case waveshining is impossible. So the first step is to make sure that the character you are shining does NOT get knocked down. They should slide back when hit by the shine. If they DO slide, then waveshining is a possibility, but you have to make sure that the character you are trying this on IS NOT the Ice Climbers or Luigi, because they are practically impossible. Waveshining is easy on Peach, Link, Ganondorf, Bowser, and a few others. I suggest practicing against Link or Peach before you move on to other characters. Marth is pretty easy, you just have to waveshine fast and long. Practice wavedashing across Final Destination in six wavedashes as fast as you can. It helps.

thanks, i had completely forgotten about the ledge invincibility (i played smash seriously in the past but its been like six or seven months now... now ive started playing again and my freinds are just kicking my ***... *sniff, sniff* i used to be so much better than them.)
thanks for the advice, some of that stuff i had already known just forgotten. awesome, i have to practice my waveshining so i can do it consistently again.
hopefully, ill be able to post some videos in the future so i can get some positive comments.
thanks again
