View Full Version : How Can I Practice Chaingrabbing?

I want to master chaingrabbing with Fox - it's one the techniques I'm not very good at, but it would do me well against another Fox, so I need to practice. I do not have anyone willing to sit around and mindlessly DI while I attempt chaingrabs, so I need a way to practice by myself. I've tried Level 3 CPUs and Level 9 CPUs but they can't DI worth anything. I can just stay in one place and chaingrab them forever. So is there a way I can get the computer to react differently so that it actually moves in a direction everytime I throw it up? I have an AR. Is there any mode of the CPU that makes them DI away from you when thrown? I tried struggle and a couple others, but they didn't work. Help!

Speaking of chaingrabbing, I have a little side question. What's the proper term - chainGRAB or chainTHROW? I've heard both used, but is there actually a difference? I was thinking that maybe in a chaingrab you hit them a bit before throwing them up again whereas in a chainthrow you just repeatedly throw up in the air, again and again.

Hope you guys can help!

Thanks,
Dalal

A good way to practice is to plug two controllers in, then hold one direction with your foot on one controller and practice chaingrabbing >_>... Also I don't believe there is a difference in Chaingrabbing and chainthrowing but I believe the proper term is chaingrabbing.

Haha, I like that idea with the foot. But I really don't have a problem chaingrabbing fastfallers in ONE particular direction. It's when they DI in different directions that messes me up. I mean, if there's a Fox, and I up-throw him, he could move in any direction. It's dashing according to the direction in which he moves where I screw up. If I hold different directions with my foot, it could help, but it won't be as unpredictable as I want it to.

But I still like the idea lol. I might try something like this tomorrow. But isn't there any way to get a computer on AR or something to DI properly?

Training mode -> Computer setting -> Evade

Use Falco, though. Falco seems to DI a lot more often than Fox does for some reason in Training mode.

I've tried training mode - but it doesn't work well. And Falco just DI's the opposite way you are facing every time. So you just have to keep turning around in one spot. I want some chainthrows where I actually have to DASH. I don't like standing in one place. In training mode, they DI, but not much.

I'm telling you, the foot is your best option!!!

or if you don't have feet, tape the analog stick one way; but humans are still best (obviously) because they will try to trick you

I think lv. 9s DI it good enough for practice, lol.
all youd need to practice really is the act of dashing and then JC grabbing right after it, and throwing imediately after grabbing. then after those have been mastered, you can just easily use em on ppl.

Lol Silent Wolf. Way to basically tell him "learn to chaingrab correctly, then use it on people."

Evade worked the best for me when I was learning. It's still nothing compared to a real human though, but by yourself, it's the best option.

Have you tried turning the damage up a little so they will be able to DI farther?

Level 1 computers are fairly good to start practicing against. They always DI left/right consistently lol. But the thing is to get used to slight DIs to try and trick the CGer (via mashing down B and pray they messup by a few frames)

I think at some point computers always DI up from throws passed a certain level.

Fox vs Fox on training mode, set on evade. The Fox should DI away everytime making you have to dash after him >_> I think it's Falco that doesn't DI it.

just how hard could it be to get someone to wiggle left and right on a controller? =p

I see the foot method I use myself has already been mentioned XD

To add to it, it makes it easier if you hold it down with the other. Wear socks too, lol. If you can take your focus off of what you're doing with your foot and just tap it back and forth you can do it without knowing which way they'll be going. CPU DI has patterns in almost every case depending on how they get grabbed and such that you'll pick up on after awhile and gets easy to follow.

I used to always lose my chaingrabs, so I just avoided them altogether, however that was before my first major tourny. There were so many other Foxes, so I decided to be a mean little ******* and chain grab them all.

I mastered it after that day, not to mention ruined everyone elses fun.
