How do I out-play a Samus, with fox. I know how to short hop, I know the chain grab and some tricks ya know, but they ain't mastered yet. So how do I beat him, should I use my speed against him?

l would say Fox-samus is a pretty even match up. Samus can do some nasty combos to fox and edgeguard him well but an offensive fox really gives her trouble. Make sure you shine after all of your arieals. Samus WILL CC and punish you if you don't. Be careful of her dtilt as it sets fox up for one long combo spree. Also, make sure not to be grabbed. Pay attention to when samus extends her grapple as not to be caught off guard. If samus grabs you with her charge shot charged then you are going to get hit by it >_>.

Just in case you do get hit by a fully charged blast, smash/tap the controller to the left or right top corner during the "hitlag" (this is known as Smash DI). This will increase your chances of staying alive by affecting your trajectory.
There should be a guide to DI by Doraki on the Melee Discussion, so I'd read that guide. It's a good read ;), and good DI will save you big time from being comboed.

try to fight on a stage with low vertical boundaries (corneria, onett, etc)--samus has insane horizontal recovery. if you play on KDL64 she'll neverrr dieeeee...

Smash DI doesn't affect your trajectory. Unless you are smash DI-ing into something to tech off of, it isn't going to make you survive more than like 1-2 damage against anything. Just make sure you get the directional DI in which would be up and towards the stage which is 100x more important for surviving in those cases.
Also, fight on stages that you can run away and laser spam, since Samus is capable of messing up an aggressive Fox very well it's sometimes the best way to fight the matchup.

Aggro-Control, all the way. Full hopped nairs, mixed in with some love from the shine. Do NOT give her time to breath, and always make her feel like she's being pressured to act.
