View Full Version : Shadow Calibur's picks for the Brawl roster

Shadow Calibur

Welcome, my nasty little pandas. *cracks whip* This is my second thread in this whole dang entire forum. Since McFox, DokturSea, FlipTroopa, parrothead, and xianfeng made similar topics, I guess I'll go ahead and make one. Long as this stays detailed, it stays open. As the title states, these are my top picks for the Brawl roster. It'll go in this format:

Name
Image
Game: States the character's first game appearance, what system the game was on, and what year it was released.
Bio: General info about the character, including its role.
What he/she/it brings to the table: Basically, what merits a character has, as well as abilities that make the character stand out
Chances: What the chances of the character are getting into Brawl, along with anything that might help the character's chances.
Should he/she/it get in: My personal opinion on whether the character should get in the roster or not.
Final thoughts: Just some stuff.

PREPARE TO DELVE DEEP INTO MY POST O' DOOM!! *evil laugh*

Lady Lyndis
http://www.maj.com/gallery/OmegaOverlordEX/Stuff/lyndis.jpg
Game: Fire Emblem (Also Known as Fire Emblem: Blazing Sword in Japan) (GBA, 2003)
Bio: This Sacean-born girl is actually an heir to the Caelin throne. As she sets out to claim her rightful place, she rescues a priest and a shrine that is home to a sword only she can wield- the Mani Katti. Lyn eventually finds out that her grandfather is being poisoned by Lundgren, Lyn's gret-uncle. Upon her arrival at Castle Caelin, Lyn and her allies defeat Lundgren. She comes to her grandfather, tells him to keep fighting, and stays at Caelin Castle until Eliwood's (Or Hector's) story. If she has an A in Support in Eliwood, she can marry him, thus becoming the mother of Roy.
What she brings to the table: Lyndis has many "firsts" under her belt, mostnotably being the first female Fire Emblem lord and the first FE lord to be introduced outside of Japan. Her style of swordfighting resembles an ancient Japanese swordfigting style, including rapid strikes that sometimes leaves the illusion of more of her. Lyn's not too shabby with a bow and arrow, either.
Chances: Rather high, due to her high popularity outside of Japan, where she is otherwise liked less than other FE lords.
Should she be in: YES.
Final thoughts: Can Lyn claim another first under her belt (the first female swordsman in Smash), or is she doomed to be a trophy or, worse yet, not be in the game at all?

Mia
http://www.maj.com/gallery/OmegaOverlordEX/Stuff/mia.jpg
Game: Golden Sun (GBA, 2001)
Bio: Mia is a 17-year-old Mercury adept from Imil, and is one of the last two living descendants of the Mercury tribe, along with her former apprentice Alex. She took on the task of guarding the Mercury Lighthouse and its power. Upon Isaac's arrival, she asks to join him in his pursuit against Saturos, and once they reach the top, she gets a nasty surprise- Alex was the one who activated the Mercury Beacon. Distraught by Alex's actions, Mia joins Isaac's party, lending her water, ice, and healing powers in battles Following the Mercury Lighthouse incident.
What she brings to the table: Being a Mercury adept, Mia is able to use the element of water, casting vicious water and ice-based spells against dark creatures. She also has healing powers.
Chances: Not likely, but due to her importance in Golden Sun (as well as Sakurai wanting more females), she's still a possibility.
Should she be in: Your choice. If you want the villain in instead, go for Alex. However, Isaac must get in the roster in order for either one of these two to be in.
Final thoughts: Though the Ice Climbers are able to use the solid form of water (ice), Mia is able to use both solid and liquid forms. Now how fun would it be to drown your opponents?

Krystal
http://www.maj.com/gallery/OmegaOverlordEX/Stuff/krystal.jpg
Game: Star Fox Adventures (GCN, 2002)
Bio: Her home planet of Cerinia destroyed, Krystal sets out to investigate who is responsible. She gets a distress call from Sauria, and upon her meeting with General Scales, she is captured and taken to the Krazoa Palace, where she is trapped in a crystal by Andross. After Fox landed on Sauria, he found her staff and recieved a telepathic message from her, telling him to find the Krazoa spirits. After Fox finds all of the Krazoa spirits, Krystal is freed, and Fox and Andross face off. Krystal later sent Fox a message of thanks, then arrives at the Great Fox. Krystal joins the Star Fox team shortly after, becoming the team's telepath. She's mainly there to point out the weaknesses of enemies, though this role is rather diminished.
What she brings to the table: Krystal can use her staff from Adventures, adding a unique weapon style. She's not too shy about using a blaster, either.
Chances: Very high- she's quite popular worldwide, and she got a few nods on Sakurai's poll.
Should she get in: Absolutely.
Final thoughts: *drools at Krystal pic*

Diddy Kong
http://www.maj.com/gallery/OmegaOverlordEX/Stuff/diddy_kong.jpg
Game: Donkey Kong Country (SNES, 1994)
Bio: After DK's banana hoard was stolen, he and Diddy set out to find it and take it back from K. Rool and his cohorts. Later on, DK was captured by K. Rool, and Diddy set out to find him with the help of his girlfriend, Dixie Kong. Diddy would later be captured himself, and would later be rescued by Dixie and Kiddy Kong. He later on recieved a message from Timber Island, which was being threatened by Wizpig. Diddy once again set out on his own to reclaim Timber Island from Wizpig. Diddy Kong later played prominent roles in futre games such as Donkey Kong 64 and DK King of Swing.
What he brings to the table: Long tail, jetpack, peanut popguns, and a guitar that can inflict pain on the Kremling Krew. Yowch.
Chances: Diddy was mentioned a couple of times on Sakurai's poll; one being the idea that Diddy should team with Dixie. He's quite popular in Japan. So his chances are rather high.
Should he be in: Yes. No tie-wearing gorilla should be without his chimpy partner..
Final thoughts: xianfeng BETTER NOT trash me if I get something wrong...

Geno
http://www.maj.com/gallery/OmegaOverlordEX/Stuff/geno.gif
Game: Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars (SNES, 1996)
Bio: Geno is a doll belonging to the Rose Town inkeeper's son, Gaz. When the Star Road is shattered into seven pieces, a Star Agent is sent to recover the pieces and begins to inhabit the doll. His initial name is quite hard to pronounce, so the agent goes by Geno, after the doll. After meeting up with Mario and Mallow, he serves as an advisor in battles. After the Star Road is repaired, the Star Agent gives up the doll and returns to the skies.
What he brings to the table: For a toy, this guy can bring on a lot of pain. His attacks are magic and projectile-based.
Chances: VERY high. Geno appears several times in Sakurai's poll, and there are tons of SMRPG fans begging for his inclusion in the roster. NSider member Fatmanonice even sent a Geno portfolio to Nintendo HQ in Kyoto, Japan- which shows just how hellbent and dedicated these fans are to seeing Geno in the roster.
Should he be in: How can you NOT want a wooden, star-possessed toy arsenal in the game? I say YES.
Final thoughts: Dangit, Square-Enix, give the rights to Geno to Nintendo already! Yeesh...

Ridley
http://www.maj.com/gallery/OmegaOverlordEX/Stuff/ridley.jpg
Game: Metroid (NES, 1986)
Bio: Ridley is the leader of the army of Space Pirates that attacked Samus's home, the Earth colony K-2L. Though he might look like a mindless monster, he's quite intelligent and capapble of spech and strategy. Since the attack on Samus's home, Ridley has been the main target of the bounty hunter, and though he has been destroyed by her many times, the Space Pirates have managed to ressurect him, making him more dangerous than before. His most dangerous incarnation is Meta Ridley.
What he brings to the table: This monstrous monster is skilled in projectile weaponry and melee combat. With thick skin, a spiked tail, razor-sharp claws, teeth, the ability to breathe plasma, and the ability to fly, this Space Pirate commander is a force to be reckoned with.
Chances: Ridley is the most popular Metroid villain, and has been mentioned a few times in Sakurai's poll. He also made appearances in the previous two installments of Smash Bros, both as a stage prop (SSB64) and as a trophy (Melee). His chances are high indeed.
Should he be in: Ridley's the perfect villain for Samus to face in Brawl. It's time this space dragon tore up the Smash Bros. arena, so I say yes.
Final thoughts: Resize? Make him Bowser's size, or a bit bigger. Form? I dunno.

Demiru
http://www.maj.com/gallery/OmegaOverlordEX/Stuff/demiru.gif
Game: Tomato Adventure (GBA, 2002)
Bio: Demiru, or Demille, is one of many inhabitants of a land made just for kids: the Ketchup Kingdom. One day, as he was watching television, he saw King Abira showing off his invention, which can turn anything into a toy. To power it, Abira captured Demille's girlfriend, Pasaran, in order to use her Heart Energy as a power source. Demille, after finding out that the Gimmick Palace needed six Toy Parts to open, set out to find these parts. Along the way, he meets various new friends and gains more gimmicks.
What he brings to the table: Besides being a Japan-only character, Demille has access to various Gimmicks, from the Gear yo-yo to the dreaded Tomato Robot MK2.
Chances: Appears twice in Sakurai's poll in the form of VERY long posts. Demille's support for Brawl is also aided by the popularity of Tomato Adventure.
Should he get in: I'd love to see this guy wreak some Gimmicky havoc on the Halberd. Get this guy in there!
Final thoughts: I have to thank parrothead for showing me the true potential of this guy.

Lucario
http://www.maj.com/gallery/OmegaOverlordEX/Stuff/lucario.jpg
Game: Pokemon Diamond & Pearl (DS, 2007)
Bio: Lucario is a Wave-Guiding Pokemon of the Steel/Fighting type. Not much is known about this Pokemon, save for its tendency to question Pokemon/trainer relationships.
What it brings to the table: For a mysterious 4th gen Pokemon, Lucario has quite an arsenal- Bone Rush, Endure, Force Exert, Humble Heart, and even its trademark attack, Wave-Guiding Bomb.
Chances: Lucario is the most popular 4th gen Pokemon to be requested for Brawl, even though he hasn't appeared on Sakurai's poll. His chances are somewhat high.
Should he get in: Lucario would do well to represent the D/P generation in the roster, so yes.
Final thoughts: kaid, I could give you a hug right now...

Sonic
http://www.maj.com/gallery/OmegaOverlordEX/Stuff/sonic.png
Game: Sonic the Hedgehog (1991, Sega Genesis)
Bio: Sonic is the word's fastest hedgehog. He's generally free-spirited and prefers relaxation, but when injustice strikes, he's always there to help. Sonic has saved the Earth from the villainous Dr. Eggman and various other threats, such as the Biolizard, Metal Overlord, and Black Arms. He has been Sega's mascot for over 15 years.
What he brings to the table: Not only is he Sega's prime representativee for Brawl, the games he's been in have given him a lot of moves- punches, kicks, ball attacks, and even his trademark Spin Dash. Harnessing the power of the Chaos Emeralds, Sonic can transform into Super Sonic, giving his attacks a lot more punch.
Chances: Sonic is the most requested 3rd party character on Sakurai's poll, and has gained worlwide popularity (moreso in the West). Even Miyamoto wants him. There has, however, been no word yet from Sega on Sonic's inclusion in Brawl at this point. Sonic's chances, despite this, are very, VERY high.
Should he get in: I want to see a 15-year long rivalry between the gaming industry's two most popular mascots (Mario and Sonic) finally become reality. YES.
Final thoughts: Sonic Wild Fire was a better name for his new Wii game...

Well, there ya go. One long, boring post about who I want in the Brawl roster. Feel free to comment, compliment, complain, whatever.

I'm gonna make one of these threads once they become unpopular.

McFox

Thank you, at least, Cool, for heeding my request and holding off. We now have 6 of these topics, which is exactly what I was trying to avoid when I asked people to hold off on making these topics. We've potentially got an entire year until the game's release, is everyone going to make their list this week? Not only will no one's list get read, but then we'll still have a whole year of nothing to talk about.

Shadow you got your Diddy bio right except Diddy isn't classed as DK's nephew any more just his little buddy. I love all of your character choices and I think they will all be in except maybe Mia.

This whole "Personalized character list" thing is really bringing home just how different my thinking is from other people. Yes, I have a few of the same guys on my list, but Theres also a few characters who I wouldn't think of. Thats on almost all of the lists, not just this one.

I need to make one of these one of these days, if only to show off who I would put in Brawl. But... I'll wait a week or so.

Great list. but I'm getting sick of these threads.

Super_Cool, dotdotdot!, SupaSmashBrotha, & McFox: Unless limitations to these kinds of topics are strictly enforced, there's pretty much going to be a swarm of them. Here's an idea: There needs to be a limit to how many of these topics are made each period as well as a certain amount of time to wait after one of these topics is made before you can make a similar topic.
xianfeng: Lemme correct that little bit. Thanks for pointing that out.

*adds to pointless conversation*

Geno, Demiru and Lucario are the characters that I dont think can fit into SSBB. I hate Diddy Kong a lot but atleast he'd be able to kinda fit in >_>

all the other characters looked interesting

SupaSmashBrotha

Geno and Demiru fit in smash more than almost anybody. And I really don't want to see Lucario in.

-_- Now I can't make one.

I was gonna make one probably in two or three weeks. But seriously, I agree with McFox, we're getting all these threads at once. And I don't think starting the thread off with something like "Well McFox, parrothead, DokturSea, and Xianfeng made these too!" is really a justification.

McFox
09-07-2006, 09:09 PM
I just don't understand why people would WANT to make them now. Because everyone's got one now? Why not in 6 months when no one has one, and yours will seem unique?

I'm not strictly enforcing anything, for now.

DokturSea

For the record, I was wanting to make one, but I thought McFox wouldn't let me. So once he made his, I asked and did it.

Shadow: Your list's just meh to me. I agree with the characters I know of (Diddy, Geno, Ridley, Sonic, Lucario). The others I've never seen before so I'm just blah.

PLEASE HOLD OFF ON MAKING THEM.

My God, is anyone reading my posts?

It is in your best interest to WAIT a little while before posting yours.

Now there's 10. And it's all because they're so impatient to make them.

Might as well comment. Glad you guys like some of my character suggestions. I put a lot of thought into them.

Fixed that for ya.

...Okay, I admit, I was impatient to make this. Still, at least it showed I had some shred of good reasoning, and chose characters that I didn't know but still supported.
