View Full Version : ... Edgegaurding the marios
I feel kind of nooby asking this question here...
kay, well, I dont have much trouble around mario/ doc. mario except for one thing, when they are attempting to return to the stage and I go to bair or fair them to their death, they can usually manage to cape me... it doesn't ruin my game or anything, but a lot of the time it is able to stop some lower percentage KOs...
is the only strategy against this really just to fake an aerial (like bair and back away at the same time) and then attack again, or what? any tips would be great...
thanks in advance

Bairs, fairs, nairs (not as much as the first two) are all pretty good. Getting caped is not that big of a deal if you can KO them, but if they do it a good percentage of the time, stop going out after them. - Get them on their up+B then. Sorry I can't be of too much help because I have not experienced a lot of caping action if I went out to get them.
Try Nair, even if he capes it you can hit him if he's back to you. Or jump towards him and when he's about to cape, come back, then go out again. MinD GamZ0rX for Da WiN.

i'm not completely sure this will work but its something different.
instead of approaching from the front, jump off so you're actually behind them. then space a pound so it sends them behind you and just b-air. i don't tink they will cape if youre behind them plus, they won't expect this. i have not tried this yet (but i will soon! ^_^), its only a theory.

cape has some lag doesnt it? and no knockback soo cant you just turn around and hit them quickly? unless they are really close to the stage and grab ledge alreadyy. but i think mixing in a couple pounds here and there will throw them off? orr wait for the cape and then go in, spacing bairs also seems good here.

Instead of trying to go out there to WOP or whatever to keep him from the edge why not just dsmash him when he b ups to get on the ledge. Just keep a good distance away but not too far so you can hit him with your Dsmash but not get hit by mario if you mess up, whether he trys to sweet spot it or not, it will still work.

Both Mario and Doc have a habit of being able to grab the stage without actually being close enough to the edge to attack them. They kind of just appear on the edge from half an inch away and you can't attack them.

Bair works well because if you use it close enough and it gets caped, it still makes contact :p
Mindgame them into caping early, then bair or fair them, then edgehog.
Easier said than done, but try. :)
Sometimes I fastfall a fair to create sort of a "net" to catch Mario before he uses his up+b. If Mario does use up+b, the fair will catch him, you will trade hits, and Mario will die while you get knocked upwards. If he gets afraid and doesn't use his up+b, you will fastfall your attack right onto his head and it will hit him anyways.
fair, bair, and nair all will hit Mario when he capes sometimes. I usually prefer to lure the cape out then hit him during his lag, though.
