View Full Version : Original Secret Character?

Well, there's already tonnes of characters that are possible entrants into SSBB. What if they had a secret, probably hardest to unlock character that was a completely new character probably created by Sakurai? This character would be supercool, supersecret, supersexy, and most importantly, superstrong...
Yes or no?
If yes, feel free to post some ideas for character designs/movesets.
I was thinking of some kind of weird shapeless being.

ONLY if all other charatcer choices are exhausted, like every 1st party Nintendo character, every third party charatcer, characters from upcoming games a la Roy and cancelled games like RavenBlade, thetn a completely random character would be fine :)

No.
I am seriously opposed to them creating some character out of thin air. As much as I trust Sakurai, the reason I play Smash is to play a fighting game with video game icons that I recognize. It's the same reason I didn't care about the GBA Mario-Tennis-featuring-a-bunch-of-regular-people. I don't recognize or care about these strangers. Give me game characters.

"Super Smash Brothers" the name says it all. This is to include characters with the similar trait of having been on a Nintendo console.

Not that I disagree with you, but "Super Smash Brothers" doesn't actually say it all, or really anything in particular. It's a quite Engrishy name.
It's a brotherhood of super smashers.
It's a fraternity of super heroes, that like to break stuff.
It's a band of demolition experts, or "super smashers."

Literally translates to: Nintendo All-Star! Great Battle Smash Brothers
Not so engrish.

But that's not the title in America. Here it's "Super Smash Brothers," so it applies to what he's talking about.
I don't understand your point.
And "Great Battle Smash Brothers" is about as Engrish as it gets.

I would like tfor them to make a completley original character for brawl and then make a game based on them, the basic storyline of the game would have to be mapped out after they are created for Trophy info though.

There, the caption on the box should clear it up just fine. They couldn't exactly call it "Nintendo All Star" here because we already have the "Mario All Stars" on the SNES.

Completly new character from thin air? Who the hell would want to play a nobody? Not me.
And look at link on the box, heh heh heh.
The Hands are probably the characters that simbolize Sakurai, or the "Creator", in Super Smash Bros.

Well, yeah the hands are things from thin air yet, they feel very smashy. Maybe this character would be a secret boss and incredibly difficult to unlock.
Also, I honestly think it would be sort of cool. After all when Super Smash 64 was out and my friend unlocked Ness, I really thought he was cool, even though I had no clue what game he was from, and probably didn't even think about whether he was from a game.
Think about it... The coolest most sickest, evillest, strongest boss you've ever seen. In sanely difficult. Then you play for 200+ hours then you get to play him. Of course, he would be banned in tournies but ****... Tell me that wouldn't be fun.
Completly new character from thin air? Who the hell would want to play a nobody? Not me.
Same people who would want to play Master Hand using AR...
Imagine this... 5 months into Brawl and everyone already has every one unlocked, people already have new styles and moves for the characters... THen BAM! Someone discovers this godly character hidden within the game's code. Don't tell me that wouldn't stir up excitement. Don't tell me that people wouldn't go omfgzorz it's (super cool guy's name)!!! and glee in excitement with all the fanboyism they have. Okay maybe you wouldn't but I'm sure if it were to happen, msot people wouldn't think it so stupid.

Just a quick post, as in a quick answer:
No. No new characters. I'm even opposed to non-Nintendo characters (Snake).

If they created some character like the one you mention, it'd have to be the new "Master Hand", but I don't see that being trashed at all. And Sensai, Metal Gear was originally on Nintendo. But I don't really approve of Snake myself.
mkmelee
10-14-2006, 10:48 PM
He wasn't originally on Nintendo. He was on that MSX thing... The game was later ported to the NES.
Or it could be the new Giga Bowser. And if Brawl were to not have any new bosses wouldn't that be quite boring?
Also, I don't see people complaining about how GIga Bowser and Master/Crazy Hand aren't real characters.
Plus it would be super cool to have this new character as a secret cameo boss in tonnes of hit franchises like LoZ and Mario in their upcoming games.

I propose original kirby from Super Smash Brothers 64, THAT would be illegal
Sorry guys, but I'm with Mic 128 on this one. As awesome as what mkmelee described sounds, I would be really bummed to find out that the last character unlock in SSBB is some crazy guy they invented just for Brawl. It would be very anti-climatic (a bit like G&W, but thats another story), and would seriously disapoint me.
I would much rather see a message appearing saying "OMFG you've unlocked Ridly! You have all the characters! Go pwn some noobs!" then see "Congradulations, you have unlocked Crazy Guy! You've never heard of him before, but trust us, he's awesome!"
Also, if they do use a character like G&W again (AKA pixilated and 2-D with terrible sound effects and a painful lack of frames in its movement), I'd prefer they give him to us at the beginning. If is must be an unlock, make him an early one, and deffinitly not the last one. Don't get me wrong, I love G&W to death, but...he was a disapointing and rather anti-climatic character to have as final character to me.

Hey, Game and watch was awsome, and his movements and sounds are brilliant, since they've been pulled from his games. (Get yourself a Game and Watch, they're awsome.)
Muffin_man

Game & Watch was 'anti-climatic'? His inclusion was one of the coolest unlockables I've ever seen in a game, simply because I his games so well having a couple Game & Watches myself yet never thought about the possiblity of him being in Melee. Most people complain about him because they don't have a clue as to who he is, even though he's arguably as important to Nintendo's history as Mario, Donkey Kong and Link.
Anyway, I do hope they have an original character for the 'ultimate boss' in Brawl, but like hell I'd want him to be playable or to have him/her/it hog all the limelight. Personally I think it should be the 'heart' of Master and Crazy Hand, though I probably stoll that idea from somebody else on this board. :P

Definitely opposed to Sakurai creating a playable character out of thin air, although I'm sure if he did it would still "fit" with the rest of the roster. Sandbag, Master Hand, and the Wireframes were all original, after all.

I would just like to say that I JUST right now figured out that "Super Smash Bros." is a play off "Super Mario Bros."
And no, I do not want any NEW characters. Established video game icons or bust.

I understand the whole "who the hell are they and why would I play them"
But then again, smash could CREATE popularity, and introducing a character never seen before, yet alreayd concieved and entering a game of his/her own AFTER smash would be an amazing experiance.
I HAD first met captian falcon, and Ness, and Marth in smash. This brought their game sereies a LOT of popularity, hell earthbound rose into cult-like status, probably due to smash.
If we met a new character and their nemisis, created with move sets that resemble those they would be likly to have in their new game, we would be able to experiance a new character, their personality, and their special abilityes before even playign their game.
But I'm not opposed to a smash specific character, however i'd like if they get some history, which would require smash to have a story. MASTER FEET VS MASTER HAND WTF BBQ!

I see that you are a Smash Lord Nightmare Korn Kid, but I'm going to have to say that that was the n00biest (Idk if that's a word) statement I've ever heard.
hell earthbound rose into cult-like status, probably due to smash.
I main Ness, and beat Earthbound more times than I can count. Earthbound has had a cult like status since the day it came out and SSB and SSBM only added to the already large fan base (Which, by the way, is huge in Japan).
Just thought I needed to clear that up for you.

Actually, isn't Master Hand considered canon? I'm pretty sure so, since he did appear in Kirby and the Amazing Mirror as a boss.
Either way, I'm with Mic. With still so many unknown nintendo stars out there (unknown to the masses), there are still better choices than a made-up character with no past value whatsoever.

They weren't, but my point was that if they were, I doubt many people would have an objection to it since they "fit" well into the Smash world. I couldn't see Sandbag as playable, but they could have had, say, a scaled down Master Hand or Giga Bowser as playable in Melee. Again, I already said I don't like this, but I also think most people wouldn't find it odd. Just my 2 cents.

He was actually a cameo boss as Kirby and the Amazing Mirror came out after Melee. I don't agree with the original unlockable character deal. I would hate to think they dropped Ridley, or Diddy, or Geno or somebody for some character that was placed together randomly.

Well, thanks for the good replies guys whether it was for or against.
AS to whether some kind of secret boss character will appear in Brawl...
I honestly think there is a good chance. I mean... Obviously they aren't going to want to bore fans and have something like giga hand or master bowser... I'm quite confident that some kind of new entity will be revealed.
What I'm confused about is that some people were saying how the original characters weren't playable...
Would you be happier if this likely to appear new guy wasn't playable?
I just think that if some new guy is to come, it would add to the whole fun if after some insane achievements, you are able to unlock and use him.
Anyways... we'll just have to see.

Original characters for crossover games tend not to fare to well. For example:
Arisu Reiji and Xiaomu from Namco X Capcom
http://www.andyc.ws/wordpress/wp-content/upload/nxc_reiji_xiaomu.jpg
Have you any clue as to these characters' role or purpose? More importantly - DO you even care? Considering they're supposed to be the MAIN characters and yet they don't even make it on the game cover...
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/f/f6/Namco_capcom.jpg
...Yeah... That's pretty bad...
Of course a good counterexample would be the cast of Kingdow Hearts, but that's an entirely different beast all together...

The master hand's appearance in "Amazing Mirror" was after Melee, and it gives Kirby his Smash Bros. moveset when swallowed.

Was that a clever thing to say? The little that you even WROTE was a contradiction!

Original character? It would kind of ruin the "Nintendo All-Star" thing. Maybe if there was a story mode and the character was important and appears in other Nintendo games later then... maybe.

Don't be so negative I mean Smash have brought some orignal characters like Master and Crazy Hand, the wire frames, and the sand bag. Sure they're not playable charcters but we seem to be loved (by some) and got a fresh start that gave us (or me in this case) a chance to accept them in the gaming world. If they did make a new character from the smsah series I would like it to be a fusion of a wireframe and master hand (generally a wireframe colored completely white with no lines and the Smash logo on his face colored Black). He would have moves related to master hand and orginal special moves. All I'm saying is everyone starts from somewhere and I wouldn't mind a original character from the Smash series to make a daybue. I think it would be interesting.
