Today I was playin my friend who was Falco as Jiggly at Dreamland 64. He was trying to recover with his B-over Split Dash thing and i just randomly did a rest and nailed him while he was halfway through. He responded by telling me that it was a glich and it shuld have cancelled out. A few matches later I attempted the rest and killed him agian. I want opinions on if this is a glich, luck, or timing skill?
Hahaha...........I've never tried that, sounds cool. The rest is a one frame attack like the shine so it makes sense that it can hit Falco/Fox out of over-B but the timing is extremely difficult. You can shine Fox/Falco out of their over-B so it makes perfect sense that you can rest them out of it too. You should post a vid of you doing it, I've never seen someone do that.

Well it does take timeine but since you only have acoupleof frames to respondand sinceJiggsfirst two frames of rest are auto-counters. you have pretty likely chance of killing someone.

yes u can rest them during the forward-b, its not a glitch, just a little hard to time. there was on a thread about this already.

Well Rest is all about skill, in this case for you it was luck. See when Jigglypuff rests it only takes 1 frame right? Well Jigglypuff ALSO becomes INVINCIBLE for a couple of frames. Fox or Falco would do their b foward right into you but it wouldn't hit you cause your invincible and then you would hit him with the rest. If you meant to do that then it was skill, if it was by actident then no, it was luck. But it was most definatly NOT a glitch.

You can't cancel out a rest (unless you hit jiggs before she uses rest.), because as soon as you execute the rest jiggs gets invicebility until she enters her 3 second nap phase of the attack. Somewhere in that invincibilty phase (and I'm just relying on what others say on this) there's a frame were jiggs does damage.
It's because of this that I'm not suprised about this (though I've never seen it before). Depending on when you executed the rest falco may have come in contact with jigglypuff's "center of gravity" during the exact frame of jiggs rest doing damage.:)

First off it's spelled "Glitch" and NO it's NOT a glitch, your friend is poorly skilled at the game. The rest move needs both skill and timeing. Jig's rest in the first Super Smash Bros. did the same thing. The move does not always kill the person, sometimes it might just hit them far. I have had friends shield the move, you can tell if they shield it cause the shield bugs out for a second.

By the way, just for clarification, it IS extremely easy to do this. Whenever falco or fox does the b-forward, you hear a little ping. With a little practice, you can use this ping noise to time an attack. Keep in mind, the b-forward is EXTREMELY easy to outprioritize, because the hitbox for the attack is BEHIND fox/falco.

Listen to raves. He does the most crazy rests in the world. I uair with fox, rest between the first and 2nd hit. I throw down and knee with cf. KNEE him and I get rested. wtf.

I got a wonderful tip from this thread. I just may pick up Jiggs now. She was already a monster at edgeguarding but after this I think she is the best.

KNEE him and I get rested. wtf.If the first hit connects that's impossible barring crouch cancelling and/or handicaps & damage ratio changes. Before or after both hits is possible, but not inbetween. With the d-throw knee it is because you are doing it too slow.

For me I would have to say that Rests require immense skill, not luck. Although luck does help when resting, I have seen magus rest people out of any move imaginable. He's too good. Like sheik. Magus is like sheik. Broken.

That doesn't make sense though. Sheik is actually good.

to my fellow moron who tries to correct other peoples' spelling and then ****s up on his own. It's timing not timeing. Idiot.

This was uncalled for.
Nobody likes grammar nazi's (especially if you make mistakes in the same post where you acted "omniscient")
Also calling someone "poorly skilled" for not knowing something isn't the best way to make friends either.
I don't feel like handing out warnings for something like this so I wont, but if you continue (and make it worse) you might not make 50 posts.

Has anyone rested, but the rest doesn't work? I was playing against computer Link today and i did a rest. It made the sound when you successfully rest an opponent, but the fire animation only lasted for a split second, 1/2 to 2/3 the normal amount of time, and Link just stood there like nothing happened. I'm not sure if it caused any damage, I wasn't paying attention to that. Any thoughts on this?

It happened to me again today when I was playing marth. Jeez it's annoying. So can anyone explain what exactly happens in that split second to make the rest not work?
Magus420

It's not that it isn't working. You are just getting a phantom hit, which is when the attack hitbox and the character you are hitting's hitbox are tangent to each other. In other words they are touching, but don't overlap. It can happen with any non grab attack basically, so it isn't limited to rests. It does half damage, does no knockback, but does have hitlag.
