Hi, i'm new here i'm 16 and live in point-claire and im looking to improve on my smash skills.
I usually play smash with 2 other people we do wavedashing and l canceling and all that but im looking for more of a challenge. =)

Jeez guys that can be done pretty easily, hell I think even I could code a program like that lol.All you need to do is an excel sheet recording who won or lost whatever match.

And for the ranking thing, I wouldn't like to keep track of my W/L's. I would rather like to report the outcome to the cpu or sum1 and have everything done magically.Reporting the outcome is like keeping track of your W/L's. I mean, the paper sheet was simply an exemple but like I said, everything could be recorded onto excel and then, I'll be able to calculate the outcome of your ELO rating.

One extra rule should be decay. Like if someone decided to mass game one day and gets up to 2800 points of something then just decideds to not come ever again cuz he's #1 or something, should be penelized for not playing rating matches.I don't think this is a good idea, because mass gaming =/= high ranking. This system calculate the power of an individual compared to other people, which means, even if he stop playing after his massive win streak, he's still the best player. His power is still 2800 for exemple.

Other players still have a chance to catch up on him because there's no position (like #1 in your exemple) linked to the power you have. So I guess it doesn't mean anything to decay a player, his "force" will remain the same even though he stops going to bi-weeklies.

I'm just wondering though...we use this ELO system, wouldn't tournament placings be useless? Are you suggesting that we keep playing friendlies and rank ourselves upon that? Is there a "Point bonus" for winning a bi-weekly? TBH, seeding would be murder, because people with low rankings will play Bam and Vwins first round all the time, and they'll never have a chance to advance. What I'm thinking is random seeding.

So I think we're starting to reach an agreement here? We'll use standard rules (I'll copy/paste a link from ToS2), and the ELO system will keep track of how we perform, and we'll base rankings from Gamersworld off of that accordingly?

However, do we use the ELO system for friendly games or tournament matches only? Because I sort of see a flaw in using the ELO system for bracket matches...

I have an idea. Why not do pools? We'll split the attendance in halves (or in 4 quarters if there's a big attendance), and we all play 2 matches against each opponent. Whoever has the best record in the pool moves on to the final bracket. Maybe people get a small point bonus for advancing out of the pool.

How does that sound people?

Sweet, another West Island smasher, you can expect your closest matches to be me and JustaPnoy; we live in Dorval. Shiz sort of quit smash and since you don't know him in the first place you'll never get to play him :P, also there's a relative newcomer named Pye but he can't travel much.

You can expect to find many a great challenge here on Smashboards :)

TO JOEL :

No, tournament ranking wouldn't be useless. Like you said, ELO would be there to keep track of how you performed each and everytime during the tourney and outside of it (ie : serious friendlies). Yes, using ELO to seed would be a killer so your suggestion of random seeding with pools is interesting, we still need an agreement though.

Perhaps, like you suggested, we should simply run a normal tourney like any other, but add the ELO factor to each match a player will do. Pools will count and bracket matches will also have an influence. It seems to be the best option, so I guess we could vote upon that.

I think we never really agreed on what we were going to do for the ranking stuff... On jan 18th, we will doing ranking stuff, but after that do we use a set number of tv's during biweeklys to do tournament stuff, or do we add a 3rd week in the month that will be used strictly for small tournament stuff.

Also, pools would be niice.

c vrai agora. ok ben im going to break my gamecube with a sledgehammer tomorrow...unless someone wants to buy it from me for 3 days of biweeklys which would sum up to 15 dollars.

one thinkg though the lid has a hard time to close, you just have to slam it slightly hard, or get a toothpick to take all the driry/dust surrounding the open button. other than that is like new okay? if i dont get a response by tomorrow at 11:59 pm i will break it.

EDIT: or trade it for any console or handheld. even like the nes or original gameboy id take it. i just want to get rid of this gay *** gamecube

Even if I'm not there, perhaps you guys should try to introduce ELO to the community to see how it works. I'm pretty sure Joel has all the information required to run this system correctly and brilliantly.
