Yea, it's pretty pointless to debate this. If you really must know, I think Aniki could beat the Germ, but it's hard to tell without a match between them. My reasons for it are simple: mindgames > tech skill (not that Link requires too much tech skill to begin with). Wether Aniki WDs or not is irrelevent. He's beaten Ken among other well known pro smashers. I think he would out-predict Germ.

aniki is the best. he has beaten ken, and either way he comes close to ken. the germ has gotten 4 stocked by isai... Azen is 2nd. lord hdl is 3rd. germ is 4th. perhaps the germ could be better than lord hdl... that could be the only change.

I've been hearing arguments on youtube about whos the best link in the world.
On the other I've been hearing about THE GERM being the best link for the following reasons
1.plays aggresive
2.best link in the US
3.plays aggressive with his weapons
these are some of the things people on youtube have said.
comments will be appreciated
These are pretty useless reasons. I mean, two of them are exactly the same thing: plays aggressive. Which is merely an observation rather than a reason why he is better.
The other reason is just plain wrong. Sure GERM is one of the best Links in the US, but Azen is better than him and there are other names like Ricky which could be tossed in there.
Aniki is the better Link player because he wins more against better opponents. GERM (whilst being very very good) is over-rated by the average guy because of the combo videos.
Even if they played a Link ditto that wouldn't show who is the better player anyway.

I think this is way too close a match to call. Link is an EXTREMELY stylistic player (if not solely stylistic) and comparing two players of opposite style as to which is better really isn't very effective. I personally like GERM's style simply because aggressive gameplay makes it harder for the opponent to find his footing. Defensive style, on the other hand, allows your opponent to keep his style and stay in his comfort zone.
As to which is better, it's difficult to say. Link can play an aggressive game because very few characters in the game are as adaptable as he is, leaving them w/ few options. A good aggressive Link player (the GERM) can keep in his opponent's face and leave them little chance OR choice of what to do. However, a defensive Link works off the same idea: Link is highly adaptable. A good defensive Link player (Aniki) can adapt to any situation put before him, and simply wait for his opponent to make a mistake and exploit it.
Like I said before, I just like GERM's style better because his opponent is pretty much on the run the whole match.
But a match between these two greats would be AMAZING. If you have a link (ha, no pun intended), hook us up so that we can see this grand match. Otherwise, let's just hope a match this cool happens sometimes soon so that we can ALL learn from it.

you speak nonsense. there are many different contributing aspects to bear in mind when debating who is better than who, especially when considering the two had never played one another. furthermore, if one of them does happen to consistently triumph over the other in ditto matches, yet fails horribly where the other just so happens to succeed--against the rest of their peers--then, of the two, who would you consider the "best" link? this is an example of the kind of thought proccess you must recognize and acknowledge if you want your opinion--this topic only questions our opinion--respected.

To my understanding Germ never uses link anymore unless its against floaties.
frankly I don't blame him I myself just use marth now.
in terms of style I'd say GERM... come on let's face it he's just fun to watch.
who gets the job done tho? Aniki without a doubt. Watch aniki's matches and I'm sure you would agree. Azen's link is pretty **** good too.

True true. Though if thats the match I'm thinking of Aniki was well on top the whole match and should have won it. So its not like his Link couldn't stand up to Koto.
I don't mean to criticize you RedYoshi, just make the correction that GERM in all probability isn't the 2nd best Link in the world.

Aniki is the best Link hands down but then again I am not going to judge by video footage. Germ's skill has been questioned multiple times. Hell, even I questioned his skills because of the videos I have seen. I have always said Germ was a "Trickster" and has no real skill in smash but based on some of the matches I have had I no longer judge players by videos. Hell I posted a video using my Sheik and I performed bad on purpose just to see what tips I would be given. Some players questioned my skills from my decent vid and when I played them I did win by 3 stock. My best advice now is to not questioned by vids. But I stay with Aniki being the best Link.

I can imagine GERM and HDL reading through this thread and laughing at whoever started it.
Come on guys, like someone said earlier, it's just a matter of preference. Personally, I see each of the major Link players as a specialist in a style of combat with Link.
GERM -> aggressive, tech
Aniki -> mindgames, manipulative
HDL -> balance between aggressive and mindgames
I personally like Aniki the most, because I believe his style has the most potential in going up against higher-tier characters. If a Link was ever going to win a major tourney, I can see mindgames being the road to that victory, if anything.
As for GERM's style, I'd love to add it to my repetoire, and know that I can throw myself into a melee and be able to kick *** through sheer tech skill - be stylish like that ^.^ However, I'm at the point where I can definitely see Link's limits, and I feel that CQC will never be Link's strongest point. Hence, my journey down the mindgames road.

Germ looks like a big dude, maybe 205 pounds, might pack a punch but still a lil 2 slow b/c of his weight.
Aniki is prolly a lot skinnier maybe 140 ponds, glasses and preety scrawney, but since hes Asian he can glide threw clouds and walk on walls and sh*t.
I dunno, that would be a tough fight.

Actually, Aniki looks pretty tall, and not very scrawny. Plus he wears a helmet. +5 defense!
