HAY GUYS. I FOUND UR THREAD.

:) Hello. To those who don't know me, I'm Lee, head organizer for L.A.SMASH, Lethbridge A.B.'s group of regular Smashers. We've got an event coming up a week from today which I'd like to invite you all to.

LANsWARm is Lethbridge's first ever LAN and console party. There are 200 spots for PC gamers, over a dozen 32" TVs for console gaming, and there will even be a space for board gaming. It runs from April 11th-15th. Cost is pretty flexible; $60 gets you in for the whole thing on both the PC and console sides. $45 gets you into the console room for the whole event. $20 gets you in for 24 hours on both sides.

There's over $3000 in prizes to be won, including gear from Alienware, Linksys, NVidia and several other companies. There is a Nintendo Wii to be won, as well as a 'special' PS2 and several other consoles.

To perfect this beast of a website, we're gonna need a to-do list and people to do'em!

Alright team, this is coming a little bit later than I anticipated it would be, but nevertheless! The time is now!

Competitive smash seems to be getting increasingly more popular every day, which is quite the opposite of what I would have expected now that the game is fairly antiquated in the fast-paced technological market. However, with the upcoming release of Super Smash Bros. Brawl it is maybe less surprising that the players whose appetite was whetted by the trailers might be coming back to Melee.

Since originally coming up with this whole Central Canada Smash Circuit idea and throwing together the website, I've had people inviting me to tournaments left and right. In March alone, I had a bi-weekly the the day after Teh Fair's CAST in Red Deer on the 10th, followed by a tournament in Lethbridge on the 23rd that was really nothing more than a pre-cursor to their massive 5-day LAN/Console party that's going on right now, and then another bi-weekly! What's more we've got Carl planning his tournament for May 5th, there's fighting game communities trying to organize Western Canadian championship tournaments that want to get smash involved and even the little community down in Lethbridge actually picked up a sponsorship at www.lanswarm.com (http://www.lanswarm.com).

It all hit me at the same time, but hopefully with some talking that I've been doing to the various independent communities around Central Canada, we should be able to organize something that will hopefully not only be beneficial and fun for existing competitors, but also have the structural stability to withstand the inevitable flood of Brawl players that will be entering the scene. I would like to discourage the "Brawl noob" mentality that will no doubt be pervasive on these forums and in existing Melee communities all over. It is after all a complete and blatant violation of the golden rule. :)

Anyway, without further ado and blabbering (except for this next part) let me get on to what this post is about. Basically, the current version of ProImpact.ca is functional, but lacking mostly in content. It took a long time just to get the shell working properly, but it's now equipped to support a smash circuit. A release candidate version of the webpage means no broken links and relevant information. Below is a list of the things that still need to be done still to make it a fully functional webpage. Most of these tasks are ones that I will carry out myself if I can, however some of the most important information (particularly roster info) does require at least some input from the community that it's built for:

CCSC Roster

The Central Canada Smash Circuit roster is by and large the most important piece of ProImpact.ca from a smash community standpoint. The roster is structured into an impressively vast spreadsheet-style database that lists smashers regionally, sub-divided into events within their own local community if applicable.

Additionally, each smasher name links to a separate page with the player's own individual profile. The profile is compiled based on the data submitted when clicking Create/Modify Profile under the Smash Circuit Info menu item. The profiles feature win/loss data from CCSC-sanctioned events as well as dynamically-updated records for local events tracked at ProImpact.ca. As the profiles are each individually quite customizable, they can house information about schooling/work, Wii Codes, DS Friend Codes, banners, contact info and more.

TASK:

Track down known Central Canadian smashers that don't have profiles!

I've managed to get most of the Calgary community to fill out their profiles and the majority of those have now been added to the database. They sorta look like this:

The more information you provide when filling out the profile, the more comprehensive (and prettier!) your profile will be.

BUT WAIT!!


There's all these great Central Canadian smashers that we all know and love but don't have smasher profiles yet! What ever will we do!

Well, this is where I need the help of you folks in the other communities. I'm fine with the task of tracking down all the Calgary players but I really just don't know how to contact some of you in the other communities. We already have profile information submitted from FalseFalco and FastFox since they tend to have a tighter connection to the online community. But we still need from some of you tip-top Edmonton guys like Mike and Steve. Trouble is, the only people who really know how to find them are those who know them on a more personal basis.

So! DO YOU KNOW ANY SMASHERS IN YOUR AREA!?

The answer is hopefully a ubiquitous "yes" from our faithful Central Canada Thread readers. If you do, would you do me and the community at large an itty-bitty favour and at least try and convince them to hop online and fill out a profile?

I know that there's a lot of people who aren't quite as enthusiastic about this sort of protocol as I might be which is why I'm trying to handle the brunt of the work myself. If you can't drag someone in to fill out a profile for some reason, what I at least need to know is the NAME and GAMER ALIASand CITY, PROVINCEof the smasher in question. At the VERY LEAST.

Defining "Gamer Alias"...

There's always a little bit of confusion about this terminology, but when I'm asking for someone's gamer alias, I just thought it would be obvious what I meant.

Rule 1

Your GAMER ALIAS can be whatever you want.

Which means: It doesn't have to be your SmashBoards name, it doesn't have to be the same as your in-game 4-character SSBM tag, it doesn't have to be your XBox live sign-in, or your MSN handle and nor does it have to be derivative of either of those. It can be whatever you want.

Rule 2

If you already have a GAMER ALIAS, I don't recommend changing it.

Which means: This is especially applicable for a player like PC Chris, for example. What if he didn't like the name PC Chris but it just kinda stuck with him through the years? Well, now he's been playing smash under that tag for so long, it wouldn't exactly do him well from a public relations standpoint to change his competitive name to GatorZilch, would it?

That said, if you do want to change your gamer alias (preferably taking the aforementioned consideration into account), now is the time to do it by filling out a smasher profile. Whatever name you type will be used to refer back to you everywhere within the ProImpact.ca domain.

Tournaments

The Tournaments section of ProImpact.ca hosts information about upcoming CCSC tournaments and events occurring on a scale that would warrant inter-city travel for players. Additionally, completed tournaments will have their results hosted on the website, linking back to the profile's of the participants.

TASK:

Find out what tournaments are planned for the year in Central Canada!

I do a lot of poking around in other smash communities, but I really only truly know what's going on from here to Red Deer. I'll need the help of the other organized smash communities in determining what kinds of tournaments are going to be in the works for 2007 and maybe we can use this as a test run for how next year will go with Brawl.

Clicking on SmashBoards CP from the ProImpact.ca main menu will open your user control panel at Smash World Forums, listing recently subscribed threads in the central window of the page. This allows users to surf ProImpact.ca and SWF simultaneously. Additionally, the "Who's Online" box of ProImpact.ca will be replaced by an actively updated SWF Buddy List to monitor which contacts are on and offline at the boards.

The underlying purpose of ProImpact.ca is to establish a one-stop shop for local smash information. With good advertising and easily accessible information, the competitive spirit appeals to more people and will drive interest in the "electronic sport." The biggest problem I have with SmashBoards in general is how difficult it is to find any information in such a vast community (not to mention getting berated by moderators for not using the search function after not finding anything). When I first came here looking for Calgary-related smash stuff, I couldn't find anything. Now that I've established more of a presence here, I'm finding old posts for Calgary from YEARS ago. With ProImpact.ca, hopefully that will no longer be a problem and this thread should direct most of the Central Canada traffic to the website.
