What is the Friend Finder?
The Smash Boards Friend Finder is the Internet's premier matchmaking solution for Super Smash Bros. Brawl. The Friend Finder makes it easy to find an opponent to play against via Brawl's online play; all you need to do is send a challenge to another user, and if they accept, you'll automatically trade friend codes.
What browsers are supported by the Friend Finder? Are there any other system requirements?
The Friend Finder has been tested with Internet Explorer 7, Firefox 2/3, and Safari 3. Users may experience problems using Internet Explorer 6 and Opera. Additionally, you must have Flash Player version 8 or greater installed.
How do I load the Friend Finder?
You can load the Friend Finder by clicking on this link. You can also bookmark this link in your browser for easy access.
You can also load the Friend Finder directly using the following URL: http://smashboards.com/ff/. |
How do I set my friend code?
Your friend code is set in your User CP. Add your friend code to your profile and reload the Friend Finder to update it in the Friend Finder.
How do I send challenges?
When you open the Friend Finder, you'll see a list of everyone who's online. You can send a challenge to anyone whose name is listed under "Seeking Brawl." To do so, click the "user box" of the user you'd like to learn more about. The box will grow and reveal more information about the user, including preferences (if set) and a link to "Send a challenge". You can click this link to send a challenge to the user. If you would like to challenge more than one person, you can add other people to the same challenge, but you can only have one outgoing challenge at a time.
Once you send a challenge, a challenge chat box will pop up at the bottom of the screen. This chat will allow you to talk directly to anyone else who is currently in the challenge, including those who have accepted and those who have yet to reply. When a user accepts a challenge that you have sent, you will see their friend code appear underneath their name in the chat window. |
How do I accept/decline challenges?
When you receive a challenge, a challenge chat window will pop up at the bottom of the screen. You can chat with the other users who are currently involved in the challenge from this window. If you would like to accept the challenge, simply click the text that says "Click here to accept" underneath your own name in the chat window. You will see the friend codes of everyone else who has also accepted the challenge.
After you are finished with a challenge, or if you would like to decline an incoming challenge, simply click the "X" in the challenge chat window to close it. You will leave the chat and automatically leave or decline the challenge (depending on whether you had previous accepted the challenge or not). |
How do I change my availability (Seeking Brawl, Online, Brawling)?
You can use the dropdown menu at the bottom of the screen to manually change your status. When you accept an incoming challenge (or have an outgoing challenge accepted), you will automatically be marked as "Brawling," and when you leave the challenge, you will be automatically marked as "Online". Please note that you must be set to Seeking Brawl to receive incoming challenges.
How do I change my status message?
Modify your status message using the textbox at the bottom of the screen. Press enter or click the Update button to update your status message.
How do I change my location?
Your location is displayed based on the location listed in your User CP. Change your location on your profile and reload the Friend Finder to update it in the Friend Finder.
How do I set my match preferences?
Use the "Preferences" link at the bottom of the screen to bring up the Preferences dialog. From here, you can set your preferred settings to help potential opponents learn about your preferences. You can also set your region here, which will display on the right side of your user box.
How do I block a disruptive or annoying user?
You can prevent a user from sending you new private chat messages or challenges by clicking the "block" link next to their name in their userbox. Click "unblock" to unblock them. (Even if you block a user, you will still be able to see their chat messages in a challenge chat.) A user you have blocked will not receive any messages if they try to chat with you, but will not be able to add you to a challenge that they have originated.
How do I start a private chat with a user?
Click the "chat" link next to the user's name. A private chat window will pop up at the bottom of the screen.
I got a chat message/challenge from a user I don't recognize. How can I find out who they are?
Click the user's name in the chat window. The Friend Finder will scroll to and enlarge the user box of the person whose name you clicked, so you can view their extended user information.
I have a bug to report/I'd like to make a suggestion.
You can report bugs or make suggestions by clicking the "report an issue" link at the bottom of the screen.
Can I run the Friend Finder as a desktop application?
At the moment, there is no official version of the Friend Finder that will run as a desktop application. An Adobe AIR-powered version of the Friend Finder is currently under development.
Mac OS X Leopard (10.5) users can configure the Friend Finder to run as a standalone application using Fluid; log in to Smash Boards via Safari to use the application. The Friend Finder running as a Fluid application features Dock notifications for incoming chat messages and integrated Growl notification support. |
Are there any easter eggs in the Friend Finder?
Chat supports all of the current smilies, but doesn't currently support BB Code.
You can type /roll in any chat to roll a die. And there might be some other features hidden away too, but we're never gonna give you them up. |
