Metroid Killer's Anime DVD review

I imported the F-Zero: Falcon Densetsu DVD through ebay. It's called Part 1 and includes episode 1 to 8, of the F-Zero anime. Before I tell you more I must inform you that this is a bootleg DVD. It's not the official DVD which is yet to be released. Anyway, just because it's a bootleg DVD doesn't mean it isn't quality made. The whole cover as well as the disc seems to be of regular quality, one of my friends even told me he was quite surprised that the DVD comes with a plastic cover to keep the DVD clean. The visuals as well as audio is okay. You might say that it looks/sounds avarage when you first play the DVD, but after a few minutes you wont notice anything. Nothing ig to complain about. If there's something that the DVD lacks, then it has to be the subtitles. You can choose: Subtitles Off, Japanese subtitles and English subtitles. It's very rare that Japanese anime DVD's comes with English subtitles, but it's obvious that this bootleg DVD was meant as an import item. Now it's very nice with the English subtitles, but the fact that they are so poorly done is quite a problem. If I say that Captain Falcon is called "Captain Hawk" and that the main character Ryu's name seems to change between 10 different names including: Lon, Long, Loy etc. Yes, it's 100% engrish. But you can still understand what it's meant be. Be happy that you are able to get subtitles, just don't expect top quality here. The anime itself is kinda medicore, the first 2 episodes are enjoyable for the hardcore F-Zero fans, and are defintely not on level with any decent anime. However that all changes as the episodes just get better and better and ends with two really good episodes. I have seen some of the later episodes and the pattern is the same they really get better and better for each episode. You might want to note that the show takes place in another canon than the games. Here most of the F-Zero Pilots don't even know about each other, and other things such as timeline and locations just don't go in order with the games.

Verdict: I say get the DVD if you believe that you are a real F-Zero fan. I didn't really care if I would like the show or not, since I see this DVD as another must for a F-Zero merchandize collector. Luckily the show is good, it's not among the best anime shows, but it is enjoyable to watch nevertheless. And $10 to $15 seems to be a fair price for this DVD
