My personal opinion is that too many people just aren't using the online aside from the new arenas feature. Now that Amiibo can be used in arenas, this may or may not change in the future.

I think Mii should be playable in Nintendo Switch version. Without the Racing helmets found in the Mario Kart series. Wouldn't mind a Switch Exclusive DLC cup with 5 Mario Kart series ractracks in it. And possibly some Banjo and Conker themed racetracks from Diddy Kong Racing on the Xbox One...
