Marth can combo the heckin heck out of IC's, but yeah I guess until you learn follow-ups and such it's best to go after Nana.

I'm pretty sure you would instead want to pursue Popo and close the stock ASAP. My friend's an IC main and he always tells me that if Marth goes after Nana it just leaves more time for Popo to be mischievous with his schemes.

D-Tilt & retreating fair? I'm sure there's more though, I have a tough time doing the same.

Have you considered netplay? Also you can find tournaments here on Smashboards, also Facebook groups corresponding to your area. Also, consider using the 20XX hackpack, and definitely watch tons of videos and read tons of information on your characters and the wonderful game that is Melee.

My friend and I both play Marth, and as such we play a lot of Marth dittos. The problem though is we both didn't really know of any ways other than the basic d-tilt at the ledge and run-off fair that work. Any suggestions?

The closer to the base, the less upward they're sent up and more diagonal they're positioned. Best way to know is just to practice until you get the spacing and timing right, you just gotta go for it, man.
